ARCHITECTURAL PHOTOGRAPHY—THE MAGAZINE

The AP Magazine „let‘s realize a competition…“

In the last quarter of 2014, the AP-Group admin team decided to introduce competitions to make our group more attractive to members. As the existing weekly banner contest and the selection of cover photos for the AP-Group and SWoAP (Selected Works of Architectural Photography) sub-group had elicited very positive feedback from our members, we sought to realise the next step of the Group‘s evolution. It took us time to find the ‗right' way to do it. We sought our members‘ opinions, and we launched a questionnaire on our group wall, in order to identify each and every facet of what our members considered important.

We also improved our internal processes to support this new system. Throughout January we developed these ideas, leading to the launch of the competitions in February. Nothing is perfect the first time, and so we continue to welcome suggestions in order that we might improve the experience for our community. We hope our members like the changes. And now, to the results…

Hi members, really great—we can show now all the amazing artwork of yours. I‗m not a Pro-Photographer, maybe thats the reason why AP means so much to me. It‗s a passion. I personally like to „work― around not only in Architectural Photography, like to find myself also in street and other categorys of photography. But to find out what Architecture wants to tell you, find perspectives others dont see and use the possibilitys of photography to show it—that‗s it! What the group needs for the future is more activity more „come together―. Thats our goal for the near future.

Please note that special care was taken to include each and every winning photo in our album. However, should the photo be removed from the group by its author, it will not appear in the album.

ANDRES: Hello, My name is Andres, and i'm a Spanish self taught photographer living in Estonia. I have an ongoing project called Urban Geometry, where I try to do some sort of study of different cities through the geometrical forms of their architecture and urban landscapes. Curves, angles, lines, intersections and colors are the keywords of my project. So far I have had the chance to include in my project cities such as Paris, Hamburg, Bremen, Brussels, Helsinki, Tallinn, Dunkerque or Alicante. I'm a Nikon guy, and I currently shoot with a Nikon D800 and a 24-70mm lens by Tamron. But ―Angular‖, the picture that got me the prize, was shot with my old D5100 and my first lens, a 18-105mm at 18mm, f3.5, 1/500s, ISO 320. Greetings!

ANTONIO: Starter home, António Manuel de Matos Ferreira da Maia, was born on August 21, 1962 in Oporto, in a family connected to teaching. Lived in Aveiro where he completed his academic trek.In the 80's starts a journey in the pharmaceutical industry that ends in 2010. Challenges, For him photography means passion and it's a real catalyst for urban diseases. Identity, Contemplate without the haste of desire, reflections of an evasion, rather than just focusing on the stage. The focus were also the people. Searching for an identity look, like a scream of living in the lap of a freedom guise of provocation and sensory appeal through symbiosis between word , image, and also in some cases music .He is not a photographer, considers himself a sorcerer's apprentice with passion for photography, trying to shoot through the heart and awakening emotions. Finds out in minimalism, a focus of interest that propelled him to the realization and production of his first multimedia work, titled - ―The Simple , The Most‖ , than a book of B&W photography of Oporto, titled – ―Porto nos IS‖ 130 pages and the Preview of 20 photos. MIKE: My name is Mike Osborn and I live in London. I have taken photographs for most of my life. I am captivated by all styles of architecture, cities and landscapes at home and further afield. I like to seek out and reveal the beauty in details that are often overlooked. I have enjoyed showcasing my work on www.mikeosbornphoto.com for the past three years, where I curate an album of London landmarks. I am a big Fuji devotee and use the Fuji X-E1 system and a vintage Olympus-35 EC for film photography. My winning photograph of the Tulip Stairs at The Queen's House in Greenwich was taken with my Fuji, using a 18-55mm lens. It was shot at 20mm, f4.5, 1/250, ISO1000.

ARND: For me, the image ―Rotterdam Erasmusbrug‖ is a good example of using the Chiaroscuro idea in fine art architectural photography. I took this shot with my Canon EOS 600D, using Tokina‘s 12-24/4.0 wide-angle zoom lens at 12 mm focal length, 1/80 sec. exposure time @ F/14, ISO 100. The shot was taken around noon to get the best possible angle of light and shadows. In post-production I adjusted the lights and shadows to use the structures of the bridge itself as well as the cables as guiding lines. Getting a balanced composition was vital, of course. A few words about me: I‘m a passionate amateur in the field of fine art architectural photography. Most of my images show 20th and 21st century buildings, my favourite places are the Euro Liège TGV station by Santiago Calatrava, the Philharmonie building at Luxembourg (by Christian de Portzamparc), BMW-Welt and BMW-Museum in Munich, and Rotterdam with its astonishing variety of modern buildings, among which the Erasmusbrug is the most famous. 42 years old, living in Stolberg/Germany with my beloved wife and our kids.

FRED: I‘m a passionate self-taught photographer who pretty much dabbles in every photographic genre given an opportunity. Being Londonbased, it‘s fair to say that I specialise in architecture, cityscapes and urban infrastructure, but I also love doing urbex, landscapes and even a spot of street photography and have managed to pretty much cover equipment costs through corporate events and weddings. I‘m a bit of a perfectionist who where possible, will always seek to do something that little bit different to try and stand out, even if it‘s just in the processing of an apparently obvious shot. I‘m a dedicated Canon man whose kit consists of a 5D MKIII & MKII with my most used lens probably being the 24-70L f2.8 II, though the 16-35L F4 comes a very close second. Thanks for reading and thanks to all at AP Architectural Photography Magazine for featuring me, a real honour. 1. No 1 London Bridge – handheld, F10, 160 ISO, 1/2000 sec, 16mm, 5DIII & L16-35L F4 2.
