Introduction
We are delighted to present an online catalogue of lamps from our collection. These lamps are the perfect complement to any interior: with a mix of both antique and modern examples, the following collection reflects timeless designs and styles. Each of the lamps presented in the following pages has been selected for its fine quality and decorative appeal. The lamps represent a wide variety of cultures and styles, including examples from China, Japan, Germany, France, and England. We have divided the catalogue into categories with a focus specific historic styles, including Chinese blue and white vases, Asian Imari vases, and monochrome designs. The lamps range in size and scale, from the small scale English porcelain vases with exotic birds to the impressive large scale Chinese plum vases that measure over two feet in height. The lamps are presented with attractive hand gilded turned bases, and all of our lamps can be wired for use worldwide. A variety of card, linen or silk lampshades are available on request. Pairs of Lamps
Two is better than one: the defining feature of the following selection of lamps is that they all come in pairs. Whether to go side by side on a console table in an entryway, to flank a settee, or to go on either side of a bed, pairs of lamps are incredibly useful in almost any space within an interior. Each pair of lamps is unique in its colour, style, and scale. The simple monochromatic appearance of the Chinese plum vases and the Qing Dynasty celadon lamps contrasts with the elaborate decoration on the 19th century Paris porcelain vases with floral panels. In addition to traditional ceramic vases, the selection includes pairs of lamps featuring different materials, including the French marble baluster lamps, the pair of mid-20th century brass-mounted leather column lamps, and the pair of French cloisonnĂŠ lamps in the Iznik style.

Blue and White Chinese Porcelain

Blue and white decoration is synonymous with Chinese porcelain: the earliest examples of Chinese blue and white wares appeared during the Tang Dynasty in the 9th century. In the early 14th century, the Chinese potters developed fine blue and white porcelain in Jingdezhen, which has been referred to as the ‘porcelain capital’ of China. The blue and white wares of this date utilized cobalt exported from Persia in combination with the white porcelain of Chinese tradition. By the 17th century, Chinese potters were creating blue and white porcelain for export to the European markets. European collectors often mounted these pieces with silver and gold mounts as they were so highly prized. As early as the 1640s, the Dutch, producing Delftware, began to copy Chinese blue and white designs due to the popularity of this style. Chinese export blue and white porcelain remained highly valuable throughout the 18th century in Europe and led to many imitations, including the well known willow pattern made by Royal Stafford at the end of the 18th century. The designs on blue and white Chinese porcelain varied greatly. The fo dog, also known as an Imperial guardian lion, derives from Chinese Buddhist tradition that regards the lion as a symbol of protection. Another common decorative feature is the fish, which is a symbol of abundance and affluence. These symbols are often used to decorate blue and white porcelain along with abstracted foliage with a variety of flowers. Peonies, chrysanthemums, and hibiscus, amongst others, all hold special meaning in Chinese culture and can be found on blue and white vases in abundance.

Imari Ware

Imari ware is a type of porcelain traditionally made in the town of Arita in Japan. Starting at the end of the 17th century, these pieces were exported to Europe by the Dutch East India Company and became fashionable. As the porcelain often left from the port of Imari, the designs took on the name of this port. Imari ware is defined by a type of Arita ware known as kinrande, which is coloured porcelain and ceramic with underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze red and gold. The designs of Imari ware ranges from foliage and flower to people, scenery, and abstract geometric patterns. Given the popularity of Imari ware in the West, European factories began imitating the style. The ceramic makers at Meissen, Chantilly, Vincennes, and Worcester all produced Imari style pieces in the 18th and 19th century.

Single Lamps
The following selection of single lamps represents the widest range of styles and designs, spanning from French terracotta to Chinese polychrome porcelain. The styles range from the simple monochrome vases to the elaborate decoration of Dutch delft designs. The shapes of the lamps in this section are greatly varied. In addition to the traditional baluster form vases, there is an urn shaped vase from the Meissen factory with wonderfully shaped serpent handles as well as a square vase with Dutch architectural scenes running across all four sides. These single lamps are ideal for a space that calls for a flash of colour or decorative accent and will provide the perfect source of light.

Monochrome Lamps

The tradition of monochrome porcelain in China dates back to the Song dynasty. By the beginning of the Qing dynasty, the craftsmen had developed a number of innovations in glazing and production techniques to create almost any colour. These lamps reflect a continuation of the tradition to use monochrome glazes. The vases come in two different shapes: the straight neck vases with the slender neck form and the temple jar vases in the baluster form. Finally, we have also included a selection of faux shagreen lamps in this section. Like Chinese monochrome glazes, the shagreen finish comes in different hues, including gold and silver. Shagreen is a material traditionally coming from a shark or stingray, which has an attractive surface finish.
