His major buildings are all in Glasgow and can be enjoyed all year every year. In 2009, the new Mackintosh Experience Bus makes it easy to get around the city to see his masterpieces – the tour is highly recommended. In his later years, Mackintosh moved to England and then to France, turning to watercolour painting. He died in London.

WELCOME TO GLASGOW, HOME OF MACKINTOSH! Charles Rennie Mackintosh was the architect of Glasgow’s reputation for style and design, and the Mackintosh Building of the Glasgow School of Art is a perfect example of the freshness and modernism for which he is famed.
It is against this backdrop that opportunity to explore the Mackintosh 100 becomes more work of one of Scotland’s nest artists. than a celebration of the life and work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It becomes a oncein-a-lifetime opportunity to reconnect with Scotland’s spirit of creativity and innovation.
œis year we celebrate the centenary of that Glasgow landmark, while we also celebrate a signi cant cultural landmark – the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns and Scotland’s Year of Homecoming.
With over 100 exhibitions, workshops, talks, music, theatre, and tours taking place across the city – Glasgow is certainly keeping that spirit alive. I hope that Homecomers, art historians and residents alike will all enjoy this unique
Whether you are visiting Glasgow for the rst time or have lived here for years, 2009 brings new opportunities to discover and enjoy the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
œe promotion of Glasgow Mackintosh and this special Mackintosh 100 event is supported by Scottish Enterprise, VisitScotland and Homecoming Scotland and my thanks go to all of these friends who are working together to show oČ our rich cultural heritage to the world.
