have always considered spring to be one of our city’s most beautiful of seasons. As I type, the sun is shining through the window, the air is crisp and cool and everyone seems to have a ‘spring’ in their step!

HOW WE MET Jay and I met at my sisters 21st birthday party, Jay was a close friend of my now brother in law. The party was fancy dress themed, so our first glimpse of each other probably gave us unrealistic impressions Jay was dressed as a bandit in a Zorro mask and I was vamped up in burlesque! However we arranged to meet up not long after that memorable party, in our best ordinary attire and soon fell in love. 20
THE PROPOSAL During the time of the proposal Jay was based in Germany, but was put on a course in Beacon Wales and was able to come home for the weekend, not giving him much time to plan. Without knowing it I had managed to ruin nearly every idea he had come up with! However the proposal ended up being perfect, it was midnight, in the moon light, on Paignton beach and of course I said yes, just as the heavens opened and we had to walk home in the rain!
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS There are so many memorable moments, from the life changing ‘I dos’ to the last standing evening guest serenading us with his shirt ripped open and a chair bow tied to his head! Our favourite without doubt though, has to be the blessing, it was the turning point in the day from formal and well behaved to our relaxed, fun celebrations. The minister was fantastic and encouraged a singing competition between the five bridesmaids and five best men, with the Dubliners and Lord of the Dance being our last hymn, the room erupted and the whole abbey was filled with our voices.

FUNNIEST MOMENT The funniest moment again has to be the blessing, as the congregation stood around my new husband and I were perfectly placed to see my 18 month old niece, Sophia wondering around the stage area behind the Minster. We had to stifle our giggles as we watched her sit in a chair facing all of our guests with a giant smile on her face as though they were all there to see her!

During a serious part of the blessing, out of the corner of our eyes we saw my niece happily stride across the stage and then disappear off the edge leaving her little feet sticking up into the air! We managed to hold in our laughter as Sophia was rescued by her mum, she was absolutely fine and wasted no time in continuing her showstopping performance for us!
FIRST DANCE We danced to Paulo Nuntini, ‘Loving you’, this song doesn’t have the most traditional of lyrics but it was perfect for us. HONEYMOON We honeymooned in the bright lights of Las Vegas, staying in the Flamingo hotel right in the middle of the strip. We were lucky enough to spend New Year there which was an amazing experience. Unfortunately that luck didn’t extend to gambling and we came home without a big win, but to us we well and truly hit the jackpot when we became husband and wife!

29.11.13 HOW WE MET I was stood with a friend in a bar when Dean walked in alone texting on his phone, he had lost his friends and was trying to find them. Dean started to talk to me and after a while he seemed to have forgotten about finding his friends and spent the evening chatting, drinking and dancing with me instead! At the end of the night he asked for my mobile number which I didn’t know so I gave him my land line instead, I said good night and headed home. As I walked through my front door, my land line was ringing and it was Dean, he couldn’t wait until morning to speak to me! We talked until the sun rose and arranged to meet later that day. A few days later, a friend showed me a photo on smile on the tiles of Dean and I gazing into each others eyes on the first night we had met. A photographer unbeknownst to us had taken our photo whilst we were talking, when we both saw it we knew that it was the beginning of something special. That photo is still one of our favourites. 24

THE PROPOSAL On September 15th 2012, Dean took me kite flying on Hay Tor, Dartmoor. After a few hours of mixed success and lots of laughter he suggested going to the Two Bridges Hotel to warm up with a coffee in front of one of their open fires. When we arrived Dean enticed me for a short walk along the river bank, once we were under the trees on a tiny clearing at the waters edge, Dean got down on one knee and with a ring box in one hand asked me to marry him! I felt so ecstatic, my immediate answer was YES!
The following day, Dean arranged for us to have dinner with my Dad and Step mum Penny, it was then that he asked my Dad’s ‘permission’ to marry me, all be it retrospectively! Luckily Dad and Penny were very happy for us. Sadly my Mum had passed away several years earlier and Dean told me that the night she was very ill just before she died, he had promised her that he would one day marry me. It is lovely to know that she gave her blessing to him.
We then went into the Two Bridges where a pre-booked romantic four poster bed suite with flowers, champagne and chocolates was waiting for us! We also enjoyed a romantic candle light dinner. My engagement ring was stunning, Dean designed it himself and had it made, much to his relief it fitted perfectly. It really is one of a kind and so is he! 25
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENTS Seeing Dean’s face as I walked down the aisle towards him, our friends and family cheering and clapping at the end of the ceremony, our first kiss as husband and wife and having my sister Emma and her husband fly over from New Zealand. Dean’s awesome best man John Cosgrove went above and beyond making everything memorial for us on our special day; from sending champagne for me and the girls in the morning whilst we were getting ready to presenting Dean, the ushers, my Dad and Dean’s Dad engraved hip flasks filled with their favourite tipple. John even managed to get Dean to the church on time, this was no mean feat as Dean is always late!
We especially enjoyed the ride from the church to Langdon Court in the car sipping champagne and soaking in the fact that we had just married. That private time we shared just the two of us, being chauffeured around Wembury was perfect. When we arrived the harpist was playing and all our guests were happy drinking and enjoying the canapés, that’s when the master of ceremonies introduced us for the first time as Mr and Mrs Sugden!

The speeches were filled with laughter and tears with some touching words from both my Dad and best man and Dean referring to me as ‘the wife’ for the first time. My Nan who is 93 came to the wedding which was fantastic, she danced and stayed until almost the end of the reception. It was our family and friends that shared our most special day with us that made it so memorable. FIRST DANCE ‘Little things’ by One Direction. The words from this song describe Dean and I to a T! HONEYMOON We went to Mauritius for 10 days. On the second day we snorkelled at Blue Bay which has hundreds of fish in clear blue waters. Twenty minutes in, Dean started shouting in a panic, his wedding ring had slipped off his finger five metres down into the forest of coral this was very nearly a short lived marriage! The boatman sprung into action and dived in to help search. After fifteen minutes we feared the worse and thought his ring was lost forever, just at that point by some small miracle, the boatman retrieved the wedding ring from under some coral!
Mauritius is famous for its rum and diamonds both of which we thoroughly enjoyed. Dean bought me a beautiful diamond dress ring with matching earrings to keep forever as a lasting memory of our amazing honeymoon.

HAIR My daughter Grace was one of our bridesmaids along with her best friend Vicky a talented hairdresser who kindly ensured that our hair looked amazing.
