Are you a bride besotted with all things vintage? If you’re planning a vintage inspired wedding, look no further than old Hollywood for seemingly effortless A-list locks! Words by Helen Grant

here’s no bigger red carpet moment than your wedding day. It’s your chance to be a star for a day, so why not draw inspiration for your bridal hair from the Hollywood hotties of yesteryear? Period weddings are making a comeback and nothing is more glamorous than a vintage look. Drawing inspiration from the old-school glamour of Hollywood starlets like Dita Von Teese and Gwen Stefani, more and more brides are turning to the past to add good-old-fashioned glamour to their wedding.

While a major part of a brides’ dream wedding is a stunning dress, a romantic hairstyle is an equally essential ingredient – take your time to choose the perfect combination. Fortunately, with the help of a good stylist, careful planning and effort, a vintage Hollywood style is not too difficult to recreate.
Short Hair Keep short hair simple with a slick and sharp style. Look to old movie stars like Audrey Hepburn and Louise Brooks for a beautiful cut which can be accessorised with a veil or sparkly hair piece. Consider actress Carey Mulligan’s Oscars look - a pixie cut razored at the sides. Chic and unique. Mid Length Hair Shoulder length hair looks beautiful transformed into a vintage wave. Look to Marilyn Monroe and the Queen of pin-up girls Bettie Page with her slick black hair for inspiration. The vintage 1950’s wave style looks stunning with a red lipstick pout and vintage dress.

Method 1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line 2 baking sheets with baking parchment. 2. Place the butter, sugar and flour into the bowl of a food processor or mixer and blend until you get fine crumbs, add the egg and mix until you get a stiff dough. 3. Bring the dough together into a ball, wrap in cling film and chill in the fridge for about 20 minutes. 4. Lightly dust the work surface with flour and roll out the dough until it is the thickness of a £1 coin. Then cut out hearts shapes using a heart shaped cutter. 5. Place the biscuits on a baking tray and put in the oven to bake for about 10-12 minutes. 6. Remove from the oven and leave to cool on a wire rack. Whilst the biscuits are cooling roll out the icing on a surface dusted with icing sugar and using smaller heart cutters, cut out some heart shapes. When the biscuits are cool use a little water to stick the icing to the biscuits.

HOW HE PROPOSED The couple were cuddled up in bed one lazy Sunday morning, when Brett turned to Hannah and popped the question. A marriage made in Eden
Weddings at the Eden Project have been given the ultimate seal of approval as the project’s Events and Hospitality Manager Di Smith recently tied the knot to her husband Michael at the home of the iconic Biomes.

i said: “Since getting engaged, we had been looking at a variety of possible venues and we couldn’t find anything that matched up to the beauty of Eden and the support and professionalism offered by the whole team.”
In true Eden fashion, the day held several quirky touches, the couple arrived in a fleet of minis and took their wedding pictures in an assortment of locations, including the backdrop of the Seed, an awe-inspiring 70 tonne sculpture made of pure Cornish granite.
Di and Michael, who owns both the Porthminster and Porthgwidden Beach Cafés in West Cornwall, chose to have the ceremony and the reception in Eden’s tranquil Mediterranean Biome complete with a backdrop of fragrant flowers and real birdsong.
Weddings include special extras, such as a land-train wreathed in ribbons to transport guests around the site and locally-sourced produce, which are just some of the reasons that Eden won the Judges’ Choice Award at this year’s Westcountry Wedding Awards.
Di, who has managed dozens of weddings at Eden, opted to get married at her own place of work because she knew first-hand how special a wedding there could be.

The colour scheme was purple and white to match Michael’s suit, which his late father wore at his own wedding, and the flowers were created by Eden’s very own “flower fairies”, who put together all of Eden’s wedding displays.
