Unit 5 New media My life would be hard without… Vocabulary: names of modern technical devices Grammar: the Present Simple Tense Skills: speaking (expressing preferences, presenting your opinion, supporting an argument) Time: 10 minutes Procedure: Ask the whole group to think of technical devices that they use (e.g. a television, a digital camera, a computer, a tablet, a mobile phone, etc.). Put some of the ideas on the whiteboard. Then ask them to work in pairs and exchange information by finishing the sentence: My life would be so hard without …………. because …………… When they finish, elicit some of the answers from the group and ask them to justify their choices.

Unit 6 Final frontiers Find a treasure Vocabulary: prepositions Grammar: the Present Simple Tense, the verb to be Skills: speaking (giving instructions, giving information) Time: 10 minutes Procedure: Ask the students to work in pairs. Each pair has to draw a plan of your classroom. The plan should include objects such as tables, chairs, doors, windows, a whiteboard, bookshelves, etc. Ask one student to hide some treasure somewhere on the map (without saying where to their neighbour). They have to give instructions on how to find the way to the other person in the pair, whose task is to find the treasure. A sample answer: Go round the table. Then look at the whiteboard, turn left and go past the teacher’s table. Then go to the bookshelf on the left, and look up. The treasure is on the upper shelf.

Unit 7 Global citizens If I win the lottery, I will … Vocabulary: vocabulary connected with spending money Grammar: First conditional Skills: speaking (expressing preferences, eliciting information) Time: 10 minutes Procedure: Ask every student to think how they could finish the sentence If I win the lottery, I will …. Then ask all of the students to stand up from their seats, go around the classroom and elicit this information from at least three other students by asking questions: What will you do if you win the lottery? After 5 minutes, the students may go back to their seats and share some of their ideas with you and the group. You may write some of the ideas on the whiteboard. © Macmillan Polska 2013

Unit 8 Rights and responsibilities My home Vocabulary: rules at home Grammar: the Present Simple Tense, adverbs of frequency: always/often/sometimes/never Skills: speaking (talking about routines, giving information, eliciting information) Time: 5 minutes Procedure: Ask the students to work in pairs. Each student will prepare a description of activities that they do at home; either real or imaginary ones. They may use the following structures: At home I always … I often … I sometimes… I never … Ask the students to exchange information in pairs. You may then elicit some of the answers in a large group.

Unit 9 Body and soul I’m most happy when … and I’m most unhappy when … Vocabulary: adjective prefixes Grammar: the Present Simple Tense Skills: speaking (expressing preferences, giving and eliciting information) Time: 5 minutes Procedure: Ask the students to go around the classroom and talk to at least three other students. Their task is to finish the sentence: I most happy when … and I’m most unhappy when… and share this information with others. If necessary, they may justify their choices and add some extra information or elicit some information from their partners. When they finish, they may go back to their seats.
