Welcome to Macomb
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Macomb, a great place to live, work, shop and learn. We’re glad you’re here!
If you are looking to make Macomb your new home, we have a great quality of life that we are anxious to share. Our neighborhoods range from new construction to turn-of-the-century Victorian homes and Macomb’s educational opportunities are outstanding. Our school district is committed to offering the highest quality education and Macomb is home to two institutions of higher learning: Spoon River College and Western Illinois University (WIU). WIU has a decade long tradition of being nationally recognized as a “Best Midwestern University”. Cultural and family-oriented events are scheduled year-round, both in our Historic Downtown and on WIU’s campus, for the entertainment of Macomb’s residents as well as those in the surrounding area.
Macomb is also home to one of the region’s premier medical facilities, McDonough District Hospital (MDH). The hospital has recently completed two significant projects designed to ensure quality medical care for our residents; an Emergency Department expansion as well as opening a new wing dedicated to Women’s Health and an enhanced Obstetrics/Birthing experience. MDH has a long, rich tradition of bringing quality and diverse medical care to Macomb and the surrounding area.
We have an outstanding manufacturing base, which includes Pella Windows, NTN-Bower Corporation, and Yetter Manufacturing Corporation. If you are a prospective new business owner, we have several thriving and developing commercial corridors. Our Historic Downtown area is filled with a variety of shops and restaurants, making it an attractive and friendly environment. Macomb, being the county seat for McDonough County, is home to the McDonough County Courthouse located in the center of the Historic Downtown square. Within walking distance of the downtown area is Macomb’s City Hall, the Amtrak Station, Western Illinois Museum, a recently expanded Macomb Public Library and historic Chandler Park, which is the setting for many of our annual outdoor events.
If you are visiting Macomb, either for personal reasons or on business, please take time to browse through the local merchant’s shops, enjoy one of the many restaurants and contemplate how your visit might turn into an inquiry about a move to make Macomb - a picturesque, Midwestern community - your new home. There is a lot in store for Macomb as we continue to move forward and attract business and industry to the area.
I hope you enjoy Macomb and come to appreciate its uniqueness and quality of life. Without a doubt, this is an exciting time to be in Macomb. I extend to you a heartfelt and enthusiastic WELCOME!!
Sincerely,
Michael J. Inman, Mayor
