Brad Bird, Jan Pinkava, USA 2007, 111 min

Anthony Bell/Benjamin Gluck, USA 2010, 88 min

Winner of the 2009 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, Pixar's WALL-E is set in a distant, but not so unrealistic future. Mankind has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the powerful multi-national Buy N Large corporation. WALL-E, a garbage collecting robot has been left alone to clean up the mess. When Eve, a sleek reconnaissance robot, is sent to Earth to find proof that life is once again sustainable, WALL-E falls in love with Eve. He rescues her from a dust storm and shows her a living plant he found amongst the rubble. Consistent with her "directive" Eve takes the plant and automatically enters a deactivated state except for a blinking green beacon. WALL-E doesn't understand what has happened to his new friend, but true to his love, he protects her from wind, rain, and lightning.

Remy is a young rat in the French countryside who arrives in Paris, only to find out that his cooking idol is dead. When he makes an unusual alliance with a restaurant's new garbage boy, the culinary and personal adventures begin despite the scepticism of Remy's family and the rat-hating world of humans. An award-winning comedy with great taste, Winner of Best Animated Feature Film of the Year at the 2008 Academy Awards.

Two mismatched wolves embark on a cross-country quest to get back home and restore peace in their pack after being relocated thousands of miles away by wellmeaning park rangers. Quick-witted Humphrey likes to frolic with friends and play video games with squirrels; disciplined Kate likes to call the shots and hunt caribou. Normally, an omega wolf like Humphrey would never stand a chance with an alpha wolf like Kate. But when they are both transported halfway across the country they must work together to get back to their natural habitat, even if they don't have anything in common.

Sylvain Chomet, France/UK 2010, 83 min

Opening the Edinburgh International Film Festival to critical acclaim this year, The Illusionist is an old-style, hand-drawn animation that brings to life scenes from Scotland in the 1950s with eerie directness. A semi-silent movie, with rudimentary, mumbled fragments of dialogue, it tells the story of an old-fashioned variety-turn conjuror, who travels all the way from France to Scotland and acquires a companion, a girl from rural Scotland, who shares tatty theatrical digs with him as a daughter-figure. It is in Edinburgh that the illusionist becomes disillusioned but brings off an authentic act of human magic.

Directed by Calendar Girls director Nigel Cole and with an all-star British cast, Made in Dagenham stars Sally Hawkins as Rita O’Grady, the catalyst for the 1968 Ford Dagenham strike by sewing machinists which led to the advent of the Equal Pay Act. Working in extremely impoverished conditions and for long arduous hours, the women at the Ford Dagenham plant finally lay down their tools when they are reclassified as "unskilled". With humour, common sense and courage they take on their corporate paymasters, an increasingly belligerent local community and finally the government itself.

Plagued by a dreaded stutter and considered unfit to be king, Bertie engages the help of an unorthodox speech therapist named Lionel Logue. The most talked-about movie at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and the winner of the Teddy Award for Best Feature Film at the 2010 Berlin Film International Film Festival, the movie combines comedic surprise with poignant emotional truth in a funny, vibrant, and richly drawn portrait of a modern family. Nic and Jules are married and share a cozy suburban Southern California home with their teenage children, Joni and Laser. Nic and Jules - or, when referred to jointly by Joni, "Moms" gave birth to and raised their children, and built a family life for the four of them. As Joni prepares to leave for college, 15-year-old Laser presses her for a big favour. He wants Joni, now 18, to help him find their biological father; the two teenagers were conceived by artificial insemination.

Love Lived on Death Row is a portrait of a family torn apart by tragedy and reunited by another impending tragedy. It is a powerful examination of not only the healing process but also of the role capital punishment plays in serving justice. The feature documentary tells the story of the four Syriani siblings whose father was sentenced to death for the murder of their mother in 1990 and Meg Eggleston, who became their father's friend and spiritual advisor through letters to him in prison. Orphaned and estranged, the Syriani children live with hate, anger and confusion, until they collectively decide to visit him in prison.

Fritz Lang, Germany 1927, 145 min

Tyler Perry, USA 2010, 133 min

One of the biggest film events of the century, Fritz Lang’s 1927 sci-fi epic can finally be seen as the director originally intended and as it was seen by German cinema-goers in 1927. The results, premiered at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival in February 2010, are spectacular. In a futuristic city sharply divided between the working class and the city planners, the son of the city's mastermind falls in love with a working class prophet who predicts the coming of a saviour to mediate their differences.

For Colored Girls is based on Ntozake Shange's play. Unlike the original play which featured only 7 women known by colors performing the collection of 20 poems, the movie has given each of the 20 characters names. Each of the poems deal with intense issues that particularly impact women in a thought-provoking commentary on what it means to be a female of color in the world.

Following his critically acclaimed performance in the multi-Oscar winning The Hurt Locker, Brian Geragthy delivers a mesmerizing turn in Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s provocative debut feature film, Winner of Best New International Feature at the Edinburgh Film Festival and multiple awards internationally. On a road trip across middle-town America to promote his unpublished novel, shy and young writer Davy Mitchell’s life takes an unexpected turn, when he is seduced into a phone sex relationship with a mysterious caller named Nicole. What starts out as a distraction soon becomes an obsession, as Davy’s feelings start to develop.

127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers, family and the two hikers he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet?

Peter Wright, UK 2010, 109 min

A filmed performance from the Royal Opera House, The Nutcracker is classical ballet at its most approachable and visually entrancing. It is a seasonal favourite with something for everyone to enjoy, from the youngest in the family to the oldest. Tchaikovsky’s music is some of the most instantly memorable of all ballet with a wealth of famous melodies. E.T.A. Hoffmann’s story tells of one Christmas Eve, when young Clara creeps downstairs for one of her presents, but instead finds herself at the start of a night of magical adventures as the Christmas tree magically grows and the toy soldiers come to life to fight the Mouse King!

macrobert is bringing back one of the true dance classics in movie history starring Patrick Swayze as Johnny and Jennifer Grey as Baby. America in the 60s: Spending the summer in a holiday camp with her family Baby, a sweet daddy's girl, falls in love with Johnny, the camp's dancing teacher whose background is vastly different from her own. Have you ever adored the stunning moves in Dirty Dancing? To make this a special night out, we will teach you the moves. Come and be instructed by a macrobert dance artist and get the chance to be Johnny or Baby for one night only, or maybe for a lifetime. Thur 24 Feb 6.30pm - 7.30pm workshop 8.15pm screening

Back by popular demand. There is no greater sporting event in all of cycling than the Tour de France. Chasing Legends touches on the rich history, passion and true grit of The Tour as seen through the eyes of Team HTC Columbia along with commentary from Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwen, Eddy Merckx, Lance Armstrong and some of the sports most prolific heroes. With a stunning array of HD cameras, poignant and touching interviews, Chasing Legends will take viewers deeper into the pro peloton than ever on a roller coaster ride of action, story and emotion.

A Day in the Life is a collection of four black and white short form documentaries featuring aspects of British social life in the 1950s and 1960s.

A documentary drama, this film tells the story of the lives of the late working-class playwright Andrea Dunbar and her daughter Lorraine, lived out on a run-down estate in Bradford, one tragic, the other touched with tragedy but not yet over. The two lives are reconstructed from a couple of TV documentaries about Andrea, extracts from The Arbor performed alfresco on the estate, and an outstanding team of actors miming to tape-recorded testimony by family, friends and associates of the Dunbar family.
