Burns: Rough Cut Gavin Paul
Meet the Bard in the raw, real and edgy. He's in crisis and contradiction but at full creative stretch. Based on Donald Smith's controversial novel Between Ourselves the show mixes live theatre and film to bring you an unfamiliar Burns for the 21st Century, focussing on his stay in Edinburgh, the pivotal crisis of Burnsʼ life and career. An intimate portrait of Burns, premiered at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe to critical acclaim, it recreates his lost or unwritten diaries, describing Scotland through his own eyes, encountering the familiar and the unexpected. Itʼs the man behind the myth, but one who wears many masks.

macrobert special event: Chinese New Year
We celebrate Chinese New Year, the most important of the Chinese holidays, with great music from the Filip Kimho Duo and Lion Dancing from the Hong Lok Lion Dance Troupe. Possibly the world's only duo with the unique combination of the traditional Chinese dulcimer (Yangchʼin) and a soprano saxophone, Filip Kimho Duo's debut album Runaway Horses has received high acclaim by music critics and wowed audiences in both China and Western countries. Established by Sifu Se Kan Chan in 2001 to promote Chinese culture, Glasgow based Hong Lok Dragon and Lion Dancing Troupe is led by artists who have worked with some of the world's leading figures in Lion Dancing. They compete in competitions across the world and perform extensively in Scotland.

SICK
Theatre Modo
Starring Suzie Ferguson, SICK is a playful, powerful and poignant clown show which follows a patient through the absurdities of imposed routines and unexplained procedures, revealing her darkest thoughts and her wildest imaginings as medication, boredom and illness give wings to her flights of fancy. With few words, tons of skill and humanity and a good amount of humour, SICK brilliantly explores the experience of being sick or in hospital, which eventually catches up with us: at some stage in our life our flawed bodies finally make clowns and fools of us all.

After his successful gig at mFEST in 2010, Daniel Sloss, Scotlandʼs youngest comic prodigy and typical half-man-half-Xbox, hormone-ridden teenager, is back at macrobert by popular demand. Doing stand-up when he was just 16, he is one of the youngest-ever So You Think Youʼre Funny? finalists, he wrote for Frankie Boyle on BBCʼs Mock the Week and sold out his first solo show at the Edinburgh Fringe - all before he started to shave. Fresh from his stint at Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow and his second completely sold-out Fringe season he is back with a show full of revealing hilarious insights into being a teenager.

After sell-out performances in the UK and internationally award-winning choreographer, director and Sadlerʼs Wells associate Jasmin Vardimon returns to macrobert with the Scottish premiere of 7734. Dramatically epic in scale and content, 7734 features stunning designs, live video and a richly diverse soundtrack, ranging from Wagner and Shostakovich to Brian Eno and Deathprod. Powerful, impassioned, moving and original, Vardimon's visceral choreography dramatically merges text, music and awe-inspiring performances by a nine-strong company of international performers, questioning the human forces and weaknesses that have manufactured hell on earth.

Dance Touring Partnership
Danish Dance Theatre, one of the foremost contemporary Scandinavian dance companies led by UK-born artistic director Tim Rushton, makes its Scottish debut with a powerful triple bill. Tim Rushton's unique choreography combines the classical lines of ballet with the power of modern dance and captivates both critics and audiences. CaDance is an exciting testosterone-fuelled competition between the five male dancers, driven by Andy Papeʼs thrilling score which is performed live by two drummers onstage. Enigma layers powerful, beautiful and sensual duets as the dancers strive to understand each other, and in Kridt (Chalk) a man on the verge of death remembers his life, told by the people he has known.

Gagarin Way Rapture Theatre
A modern classic written by Gregory Burke (Black Watch), Gagarin Way marks the tenth anniversary of acclaimed Scottish company Rapture Theatre. Two disgruntled factory workers kidnap a visiting company executive to make a point - but what exactly is their point? And have they both the same agenda? The jokes come thick and fast in this politically charged satirical thriller about a human heist that goes tragically wrong. Earthy adult language and high comedy combine to make for a wickedly cruel and deliciously funny night at the theatre, starring Dave Anderson and Jimmy Chisholm.

Reel Fear
What are you most afraid of? Reel Fear, a site-specific show, is an exploration of the group始s desire to investigate their darker side, the concept of doppelg盲nger, alter egos and fear. This collaborative piece uses film, music, sound effects, dance and physical theatre to stimulate the senses in order to evoke these feelings to the audience. Besides raising questions about real fear versus irrational fear, it is also a reflection on the reasons why we get so much pleasure from watching horror films in order to instil fear. LUCID will explore the thin line between reality and dreams: the hidden meanings behind dreams, and how experiences and feelings in a person始s life can cause them to dream in a certain way. Driven creatively by the group, the show will also give the young dancers the opportunity to analyse their own dreams: how these change throughout certain points in their life and what factors trigger those changes.

Bassett (Part of National Theatre Connections 2011) The citizenship class at Wootton Bassett School and the supply teacher have gone a bit nuts, doing a runner and locking the pupils in. That始s bad enough, but tensions are higher today than normal; a day when only yards from their confinement a repatriation of fallen British soldiers is happening along the high street - as it has over a hundred times before through this quiet Wiltshire town. And this one is more personal than most. Bassett is a pacy, funny and exhausting look at young people who are starting to ask questions about these conflicts, their country and themselves.

Set in the Thirty Years' War, this exciting new version by Tom Leonard, directed by Morven Gregor, will reflect on the enduring relevance of Brechtʼs classic play Mother Courage and Her Children. With minimal and spacious staging it features sign language and projected text as it follows Mother Courage and her three children travelling through the war zones, making their living from buying and selling whatever comes to hand. Humanimalia is a new work inspired by Janis Claxtonʼs on-going primate research and the success of the companyʼs critically acclaimed work Enclosure 44 - Humans, which was performed in an animal enclosure at the Edinburgh Zoo, winning a Herald Angel Award in 2008. With a unique score composed by Philip Pinsky it portrays universal themes that are inherent in all primates. It challenges our perceptions of ʻwhoʼs watching whoʼ through a revealing journey of submission, dominance, repression and revelation. With a sublime cast of international dancers Humanimalia reveals innate qualities and behaviours of the ʻhuman animalʼ in an unforgettable and moving performance.

Have you ever imagined starting to tell a story but not knowing how it will end? This is what happens to Fritz, who one night begins to tell a story to the townsfolk of Glockenheim. Gathered in the tavern around a roaring fire, safe and warm from the winter weather, they listen, entranced. But the more Fritz unravels his tale of kings, queens and mysterious clockwork machines, the more it comes to life. In fact, it springs to life in more ways than one! Told through a captivating mix of puppetry, live action, music and singing, Clockwork takes you to a world where past merges into present, life merges with machine, and fiction becomes scarily real.

Following last yearʼs sensational production of Guys and Dolls Beaconhurst School is back onstage with the same creative team, this time with a satire of big business and all it holds sacred. How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who climbs the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant company man, the bossʼ whiny, nepotistic nephew, the office party, backstabbing co-workers, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love.
