Let’s Dance Festival 18—21 april 2012
Welcome to our first Let’s Dance Festival We are all very excited about macrobert’s first Let’s Dance Festival this April. The festival offers a wealth of opportunities for people of all ages to take part in dance, through workshops, projects and performances. For schools we have performances for nursery, primary and secondary ages — with workshops available in your school and bus subsidies available to help you to get here! For families there are performances, an exhibition, workshops and the Get Scotland Dancing Family Ceilidh. The Red Shoe Project, running as part of the Festival, gives everyone an opportunity to get involved. Please see the centre pages for more details. The Festival is part of the Scotland-wide Get Scotland Dancing initiative, which aims to encourage more people to get active and participate in dance. Presented by Stillmotion Directed and designed by Brian Hartley For under 5s We Dance, wee groove will take you on a trip of a lifetime… with a twist and maybe a shimmy! We Dance, wee groove is an interactive and inclusive dance experience for children under 5 and adults. It is a unique, stimulating and enriching experience to celebrate dance, music and imaginative play, featuring professional performers, lighting and projected images, and inviting participation between audience and performers. What on Earth!?

Presented by Scottish Dance Theatre Choreographed by Janet Smith and Sally Owen For ages 5 – 11 Scottish Dance Theatre presents a new work specifically designed for young people to introduce young audiences to the power of dance theatre. Where do we go in our dreams? What on Earth!? is a curious nocturnal journey full of surprise encounters with strange flora and fauna — dreaming of planet earth. This dynamic, physically adventurous, by turns spooky, funny and thought provoking roller-coaster is for children from 5 – 11, but fun for all ages. Triple Bill Mislead & iDance
for S1–s3
Presented by Jackin' in the Box Jackin' in the Box is an all-female hip hop dance group. Mislead takes a lighthearted look at gender identities and stereotypes. It was originally created for the Breakin' Convention Tour 2010 at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre. iDance explores the way music transports us instantly to another place in time and brings back memories! It features music that influenced the hip hop dance styles we know today and was created through a residency at Dance Base and performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011.
Decreasing Infinity Presented by Balbir Singh Dance Company Decreasing Infinity, a male duet created by Balbir Singh, draws on both Kathak (a north Indian classical dance style) and contemporary dance. Clear, sharp and intensely rhythmic, this dynamic male duet is accompanied by the intense rhythms of live tabla and human beatbox. Guardian 'Pick of the Week' at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011. The Red Shoes project gives everyone the opportunity to take part in the Let’s Dance Festival. We will be holding workshops for families, a schools competition and an invitation to everyone to perform as part of our Red Shoes community dance performances.
Create Red Shoes We are collecting creative contributions from anyone who would like to share their thoughts about Red Shoes and what they mean to them. Take a photograph, write a poem or statement, draw a doodle, make a dance, make a film, design or customise your own red shoe — the choice is yours. For details of how to submit your creation please visit www.macrobert.org/letsdance. The closing date for submissions is Friday 30 March.
Perform Red Shoes On Friday 20 and Saturday 21 April we will celebrate a day of dance in various spaces around the University and macrobert throughout the day. Everyone is invited to join in and make dance part of their lives. Performance workshops will take place throughout March and early April. schools competition: red shoes schools art competition Schools in the Forth Valley area are invited to enter our Red Shoe Project competition. To enter we would like you to create a piece of art or a story inspired by the Red Shoe theme. There are three categories for three age groups: Nursery, primary and secondary. Winners in each category will be exhibited as part of the Red Shoe exhibition at macrobert. They will also win free tickets for their class for a performance of their choice in the macrobert theatre programme. Terms and conditions apply. Closing date for submissions is Friday 23 March 2012. Put on your red shoes and dance… at the Red Shoe Ceilidh at macrobert. The Ceilidh is open to everyone, but the first session (7.00 – 8.30pm) will have more of a focus for families and those new to ceilidh-ing, with easier dances and time given to learn the steps.
