OFFSIDE Jafar Panahi / Iran 2006 / 92min / (PG) Contains mild language / Farsi with English subtitles

WED 4 APR 7.30PM WITH PRE-FILM TALK HOSTED BY HUMAN RACE

The Tehran soccer stadium roars with 100,000 cheering men and only men. According to Islamic custom, women are not allowed, and the ambitious girls who manage to sneak in are caught and sent to a holding pen, guarded by male soldiers their own age. Duty makes the young men and women adversaries, but duty can’t overcome their shared dreams, their mutual attraction, and ultimately their overriding sense of national pride and humanity.

THE ISLAND PRESIDENT Jon Shenk / USA 2012 / / 101min / 12A TBC

SAT 21 APR 5.00PM Presented by www.takeoneaction.org.uk with support from Christian Aid and SCIAF. Followed by discussion bringing us up to date and asking what Scotland can do as the UN comes together again in June 2012.

2,000 Maldive islands are being engulfed by rising sea levels. This visually stunning and politically potent film pits the US, China and India against one man – former President Nasheed of the Maldives. Single-handedly challenging the international community’s muddled response to reducing global carbon emissions, we move from playful underwater publicity stunts to an extraordinary behind-the-scenes climax at the 2009 UN climate conference.
