Welcome Woody, Buzz and the whole gang back to the filmhouse this spring. Andy prepares to depart for college and his loyal toys find themselves in… day-care! These untamed tots with their sticky little fingers do not play nice, so it’s all for one and one for all as plans for the great escape get underway. A few new faces join the adventure this time, including iconic swinging bachelor and Barbie’s counterpart Ken, a thespian hedgehog named Mr. Pricklepants and a pink, strawberry-scented teddy bear called Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear.
Something mysterious is happening in the Hundred Acre Wood. There are strange rumblings in the night and the ground shakes and quakes. Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Roo are told by Rabbit that it can only be one thing: Heffalumps. Disregarded as too young to partake in the search for Heffalumps, little Roo opts to search on his own, with far greater success than his friends. In meeting a young, playful Heffalump named Lumpy, Roo quickly discovers that Heffalumps are nothing like the creatures of the ominous stories he has been told.
After receiving the healing powers from a magical flower the baby Princess Rapunzel is kidnapped from the palace in the middle of the night by Mother Gothel. To stay young, she must lock Rapunzel in her hidden tower. But the beautiful Rapunzel has been in the tower her entire life and is curious of the outside world. As one day bandit Flynn Ryder scales the tower and is taken captive by Rapunzel, she strikes a deal with the charming thief to act as her guide to travel and both embark on an exciting and magnificent journey.

In the Name of the Father (15)
The Usual Suspects (18)
Brassed Off (15)
Pete Postlethwaite, who died on January 2 aged 64, was marked out by, and blessed with, one of the most remarkable faces of any British actor this past half century. Equipped with prominent cheekbones and equally conspicuous penetrating eyes, he was able to convey, with the most imperceptible shifts in emphasis, whole worlds of pride, perturbation, suffering, resignation, wonder and warmth. The quiet mournfulness of his flinty physiognomy anchored many of the roles he undertook with a rare quality of humanity, integrity and vulnerability. To celebrate his life, macrobert is presenting three of the most remarkable films Postlethwaite starred in throughout March.

Bullied by the British police, he and four of his friends are coerced into confessing their guilt. Gerry's father and other relatives in London are also implicated in the crime. He spends 15 years in prison with his father trying to prove his innocence with the help of a British attorney, Gareth Peirce. Based on a true story.
Following a truck hijack in New York, five conmen are arrested and brought together for questioning. As none of them is guilty, they plan a revenge operation against the police. The operation goes well, but then the influence of a legendary mastermind criminal called Keyser Sรถze is felt. It becomes clear that each one of them has wronged Sรถze at some point and must pay back now. The payback job leaves 27 men dead in a boat explosion, but the real question arises now: Who actually is Keyser Sรถze?
In existence for a hundred years, Grimley Colliery Brass band is as old as the mine. But the miners are now deciding whether to fight to keep the pit open, and the future for town and band looks bleak. Although the arrival of flugelhorn player Gloria injects some life into the players, and bandleader Danny continues to exhort them to continue in the national competition, frictions and pressures are all too evident. Foreign Language Screenings
Biutiful (15)
Men On The Bridge (15)
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (15)
We have some great foreign language films coming to our cinema this spring. If you are a native speaker of those languages the films will give you the chance to forget English for a length of the film and freshen up your own language again. For all those who are learning any of those languages, why not watch a film to improve your skills? And for all others: all films are subtitled in English, so you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the film.
Biutiful (15)
Men On The Bridge (15)
Alejandro González Iñárritu, Mexico/Spain 2010, 147 min Spanish with English subtitles
Original title: Köprüdekiler
Nominated for the Academy Awards in 2011 as best foreign language Film, Biutiful is a love story between a father and his children. This is the journey of Uxbal, a conflicted man who struggles to reconcile fatherhood, love, spirituality, crime, guilt and mortality amidst the dangerous underworld of modern Barcelona. His livelihood is earned out of bounds, his sacrifices for his children know no bounds. Like life itself, this is a circular tale that ends where it begins. As fate encircles him and thresholds are crossed, a dim, redemptive road brightens and helps him to navigate his way out of the situation.
Asli Ozge, Germany/Turkey/Netherlands 2009, 87 min Turkish with English subtitles
Turkish television director Asli Özge teams up with awardwinning cinematographer Emre Erkmen for this curious slice of social commentary that blurs the lines between fiction and documentary. The film has picked up top awards at the Istanbul, Altın Koza and Ankara international film festivals and tells the stories of three men working at the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul. Their stories are told by the original characters in this mosaic depicting real persons exposing their lives and aspirations. Mon 28 Mar 7.30pm

Original title: Tournée
Diego Luna, Mexiko 2010, 82 min Spanish with English subtitles
Mathieu Amalric, France 2010, 111 min French with English subtitles
Joachim, a former Parisian television producer, had left everything behind, his children, friends, enemies, lovers and regrets, to start a new life in America. He comes back with a team of New Burlesque strip-tease performers whom Joachim has fed fantasies of a tour of France, of Paris! Travelling from port to port, the curvaceous showgirls invent an extravagant fantasy world of warmth and hedonism, despite the constant round of impersonal hotels with their endless elevator music and the lack of money. The show gets an enthusiastic response from men and women alike. But their dream of a tour culminating in a last grand show in Paris goes up in smoke when Joachim is betrayed by an old friend and loses the theatre where they were due to perform. A quick return journey to the capital violently reopens old wounds. Winner of the Best Director Award at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival. Mon 11 Apr 7.30pm
After his mother brings little Abel home from the psychiatric ward, his family worries about how he will handle his father’s absence and whether or not he will suffer an emotional breakdown. He surprises them by deciding that he will become the father of the house, taking over the responsibilities of a family man. All is going well until a stranger shows up claiming to be his father. The film is told from the young boy’s perspective, as he blurs reality and fantasy.

The Fighter tells the life story of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward and his trainer brother Dick Eklund, chronicling the brothers' early days on the rough streets of Lowell, Massachusetts through Eklund's battle with drugs and Ward's unlikely road to the world light welterweight title. Ward experiences a Rocky-like rise, but his half-brother Dicky, a boxer-turned-trainer, is nearly being KO'd by drugs and crime.
Blue Valentine is the love story antidote for all the romantic comedies that flood film theatres every year. It's the story of love found and love lost, told in past and present moments in time. Flooded with romantic memories of their courtship, Dean and Cindy use one night to try and save their failing marriage. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star in this honest portrait of a relationship on the rocks.
A psychological thriller set in the world of New York City Ballet, Black Swan stars Natalie Portman as Nina, a featured dancer who finds herself locked in a web of competitive intrigue with a new rival at the company (Mila Kunis). A new release by visionary director Darren Aronofsky, the film takes a thrilling and at times terrifying journey through the psyche of a young ballerina, whose starring role as the duplicitous swan queen turns out to be a part for which she becomes frighteningly perfect. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side with a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.
The Social Network is based on the true story of the creation of the social networking website Facebook. On an autumn night in 2003, Harvard undergrad and computer programming genius Mark Zuckerberg sits down at his computer and heatedly begins working on a new idea. In a fury of blogging and programming, what begins in his dorm room soon becomes a global social network and a revolution in communication. A mere six years and 500 million friends later, Mark Zuckerberg is the youngest billionaire in history. But for this entrepreneur, success leads to both personal and legal complications.

Mike Leigh's latest film is an acutely wellobserved study of needy and unhappy people desperately trying to make sense of their lives. Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Family and friendship. Love and warmth. Joy and sadness. Hope and despair. Companionship. Loneliness. A birth. A death. Time passes. Another Year is a deeply absorbing look at people who have arrived at a point in their lives where happiness has been achieved by some, but not by others.
The Burlesque Lounge has its best days behind it. Tess, a retired dancer and owner of the venue, struggles to keep the ageing theatre alive, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. The good fortune seems to have abandoned the club altogether, until Ali, a small-town girl from Iowa, is hired by Tess as a waitress at the Lounge. Ali escapes a hollow past and quickly falls in love with the art of burlesque. Backed by new-found friends amongst the theatre’s crew, she manages to fulfil her dreams of being on stage herself. Things take a dramatic turn though when Ali's big voice makes her become the main attraction of the revue. Starring Cher and Christina Aguilera.

Opening the Edinburgh International Film Festival to critical acclaim last year, The Illusionist is an old-style, hand-drawn animation that brings to life scenes from Scotland in the 1950s with eerie directness. A semi-silent film, with rudimentary, mumbled fragments of dialogue, it tells the story of an old-fashioned variety-turn conjuror, who travels all the way from France to Scotland and acquires a companion, a girl from rural Scotland, who shares tatty theatrical digs with him as a daughter-figure. It is in Edinburgh that the illusionist becomes disillusioned, but brings off an authentic act of human magic. Wed 6 Apr 7.30pm

Life Goes On is a contemporary British Asian family drama centring around the conflict between a father and his three daughters spanning the six days between the death of his wife and the funeral.
After being cut from the USA softball team and feeling a bit past her prime, Lisa finds herself evaluating her life and in the middle of a love triangle, as a corporate guy in crisis competes with her current, baseballplaying beau.
Marking the film's 40th anniversary, this digital restoration of the Palme d’Or nominated film makes stunning use of its outback locations as it follows a teenage girl and her younger brother, lost in the Australian wilds, after their father has driven them into the outback and committed suicide. After meeting an aborigine boy on his "walkabout" the film examines their cultural differences and the language barrier, which means that neither can fully understand the feelings of the other. Roeg, acting as his own photographer, used Edward Bond's adaptation of the James Vance Marshall novel as the catalyst for an examination of crosscultural barriers, famously exclaiming 'it's perfect' when confronted with Bond's 14-page script.

Lisa Cholodenko, USA 2010, 106 min
Julie Taymor, USA 2010, 110 min
John Cameron Mitchell, USA 2010, 91 min
The most talked-about film at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival and winner Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical at this years Golden Globe Awards, The Kids Are All Right combines comedic surprise with poignant emotional truth in a funny, vibrant, and richly drawn portrait of a modern family. Nic and Jules are married and share a cozy suburban Southern California home with their teenage children, Joni and Laser. Nic and Jules - or, when referred to jointly by Joni, "Moms" - gave birth to and raised their children, and built a family life for the four of them. As Joni prepares to leave for college, 15-year-old Laser presses her for a big favour. He wants Joni, now 18, to help him find their biological father; the two teenagers were conceived by artificial insemination.
In her adaptation of Shakespeare's mystical thriller The Tempest, Academy Award-nominated Julie Taymor brings an original dynamic to the story by changing the gender of the sorcerer Prospero into the sorceress Prospera, portrayed by Oscar winner Helen Mirren. Prospera's journey spirals through vengeance to forgiveness as she reigns over a magical island, cares for her young daughter, Miranda, and unleashes her powers against shipwrecked enemies in this exciting, masterly mix of romance, tragicomedy and the supernatural.
Becca and Howie Corbett are a happily married couple. Their perfect world is forever changed, when their young son, Danny, is killed by a car. Becca, an executive-turned-stay-at-home mother, tries to redefine her existence in a surreal landscape of well-meaning family and friends. Painful, poignant, and often funny, Becca's experiences lead her to find solace in a mysterious relationship with a troubled young comic-book artist, Jason - the teenage driver of the car that killed Danny. Becca's fixation with Jason pulls her away from memories of Danny, while Howie immerses himself in the past, seeking refuge in outsiders who offer him something Becca is unable to give. The Corbetts, both adrift, make surprising and dangerous choices as they choose a path that will determine their fate.

Ken Wardrop, Ireland 2010, 80 min
Chris Smith, USA 2009, 82 min
Using his mother's life as inspiration, Ken Wardrop has created a film that explores how we share life's journey with the opposite sex. His and Hers is an investigation into the ordinary to discover the extraordinary. It finds comedy in the mundane, tragedy in the profound and provides an original insight into a life. The hallways, living rooms and kitchens of the Irish Midlands are used as the canvas for the film's rich tapestry of female characters. The story unfolds sequentially through young to old with a charmingly unabashed array of Irish ladies, and there's not a man in sight.
Collapse is a documentary on Michael Ruppert, a police-officer-turned-independent-reporter who predicted the current financial crisis in his self-published newsletter From the Wilderness.
In late 2007, filmmakers Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost sensed a story unfolding as they began to film the life of Ariel's brother, Nev. They had no idea that their project would lead to the most exhilarating and unsettling months of their lives. A reality thriller that is a shocking product of our times, Catfish is a riveting story of love, deception and grace within a labyrinth of online intrigue. Tue 15 Mar 7.30pm

Carlos Carcas, Norberto López Amado, UK/Spain 2010, 78 min
Michèle Hozer, Peter Raymont, Canada 2009, 109 min
The film traces the rise of one of the world’s premier architects, Norman Foster, and his unending quest to improve the quality of life through design. Portrayed are Foster’s origins and how his dreams and influences inspired the design of emblematic projects such as the largest building in the world Beijing Airport, the Reichstag, the Hearst Building in New York and works such as the tallest bridge ever in Millau France. In the very near future, the majority of mankind will abandon the countryside and live entirely in cities. Foster offers some striking solutions to the problems that this historic event will create.
An enigmatic musical poet, world-renowned pianist Glenn Gould continues to captivate twenty-seven years after his untimely death. Genius Within: The Inner Life of Glenn Gould weaves together an unprecedented array of never before seen footage of Gould, photographs and excerpts from his private home recordings and diaries plus personal interviews with Gould’s most intimate friends and lovers, some who have never spoken about him publicly before, to reconstruct his thoughts on music, art, society, love, and life.
Anthony Geffen, USA 2010, 94 min
In this feature documentary with astonishing visuals Anthony Geffen tells the story of George Mallory, who was obsessed with becoming the first person to conquer the untouched Mount Everest. He was last seen 800 feet below the summit in 1924, before the clouds rolled in and he disappeared into legend. His death stunned the world. 75 years later, climber Conrad Anker returns to Everest with British climbing prodigy Leo Houlding to unravel the mysteries surrounding his disappearance.
