TRUSTEES REPORT 2010 This is the second Trustees Report of Mada Clinics International, which was founded in 2008. This report covers the charity’s work for 2010. The trustees throughout the year were Dr Philip Trangmar, Mr David Gallagher and Ms Elizabeth Pond. Objectives and Achievements The charity was established primarily to assist the people of Madagascar through the relief of poverty and sickness; the promotion of good health; the advancement of education and the conservation of the environment. The charity achieved these objectives during 2010 through its continued assistance with the funding of its health care clinic in the rural village of Maventibao in Northern Madagascar. In addition, during 2010 a second clinic was established in Amboangamamy – some 2 ½ hours walk from Mavenbtibao (see picture above). This second clinic required employing and funding a second nurse, as well as additional expenditure of medicines. The two clinics now cover a region of 15 villages offering health care to over 15,000 people. They treated over 3,500 sick patients during 2010, in addition to monthly well-child checks and pre-natal visits. The main illnesses continue to include malaria, bilharzia (a water-borne parasitic disease), diarrhea, and sexually transmitted infections. The staff at the clinics also assists with deliveries, giving out contraceptives and partaking in the government’s vaccination programmes. Towards the end of the year, MCI received an anonymous donation which enabled it to put on a firmer footing the school in Maventibao – including employing a full-time teacher and building desks for the children. The school proved an immediate success with approximately 30 children attending each day (see picture below)

Financial Review The funding for both of the clinics and the school is provided entirely by MCI. It, in turn, is funded from donations made by volunteers who stay and work in Maventibao and our other associated schools and hospitals; as well as donations received from individuals who wish to assist our work in Madagascar. During 2009 these totaled £8,588 ($12,882) and £2,370 ($3,555) respectively, giving us a total income from donations of £10,958 ($16,437). Of this money raised, the sum of £9,063 ($13,595) was sent out to Madagascar. This was spent on wages to the Malagasy staff; medicines, which are provided for free to all patients; supplies for the school; and small building projects and repairs to our existing buildings. The expenses of the charity during the period were £712 ($1,068), consisting predominantly of UK accountancy fees (£360) and bank collection/transfer charges (£304). Our expenses were approximately 6.5% of money raised. The balance of £1,185 ($1,778) was carried over to be used for the objects of the charity during 2011. Corporate Governance The trustees convene regularly to discuss budgets and expenditure. Dr Trangmar, on behalf of the trustees, ensured that the funds sent out were used appropriately by travelling out to Madagascar to assist at the clinics and to oversee all local expenditure. The trustees, having taken into account the UK Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, believe that they achieved the charity’s objectives during 2010. During the period, the trustees received no remuneration or any reimbursement for their time or expenses. Conclusion The trustees wish to express their gratitude to all the volunteers who worked with us during 2010 plus our other donors, without whom we would not have been able to finance the clinics and the school and provide this valuable service to the Malagasy people. We hope during 2011 to be able to consolidate on the opening of the second clinic and our first ‘full time’ school.
