DUBAI

Teresita Orillac Interview to:

Can you tell us a little bit about your new Teresita Orillac collection? This new collection, which Teresita Orillac made in Dubai, is called “Into the jungle”, with custom prints made of feathers of exotic birds found in South America. For the first time I have ventured to print my own designs on fabrics to create something very Latin and unique. In this new collection of exotic birds, I use pictures to create prints. The result is very colorful and full of life. I am very happy about it. Definitely, the feeling of designing clothes with your own fabric is wonderful.

You’ve recently moved to Dubai. Has this fact affected the running of your Business in Central America? It has affected my business in Central America, but in a positive way, my ready-to-wear collection is now made in Dubai not in Panama. Dubai definitely offers more options of wonderful fabrics and very professional clothes manufacturing. The uniform collection T.O. by Teresita Orillac is a little bit more complicated to manage from abroad specially because of the time difference, but I have a wonderful team in Panama and before I moved we organized everything very well. I brought with me all the fabric samples that we offer for our uniforms. Thus, I am able to create a sample here in Dubai and send it to Panama or Colombia where we manufacture the uniforms.

In your inspiration, Dubai’s cityscape feature is pretty awesome... Dubai has definitely influenced this collection, women here dress up for their daily events and travel a lot. This collection is mostly everyday coctel and smart dresses made with travel-friendly fabrics. -The fabrics are travel-friendly as they wrinkle very little or not at all; so it is easy to pack and wear them in your final destination. -They can be easily cared for, no need to dry clean them every time you wear them -All the smart coctel dresses, skirts and tops can be worn throughout the year irrespective of weather because it is easy to mix and match within the collection and one can wear them with either boots, tights, high heels or sandals, coats or hats.

Being a stylist, personal shopper and image consultant has influenced your designs? It has most definitely influenced my designs. I like creating beautiful clothes but I love creating something that has the power to make someone feel confident, beautiful and make their everyday lives easier. I believe that if you would buy clothes just based on how they look on a mannequin or model, without thinking of your body and your everyday lifestyle, then you would not use them often. And if the garment is dry clean only, but you never manage to go to the cleaner’s then you won’t use it much either. Being able to dress up quickly in the mornings is a wonderful thing. Feeling well dressed and feminine all day is great, especially in our lives of constant motion in which we fail to get home and change clothes for every occasion during the course of a day.

Simple patterns, good quality fabrics, different cuts and shapes in the garment which worships womanhood: skirts. That is the vision of two women who lead a company specializing in the design and manufacture of exclusive skirts, signing in limited editions under the slogan “Unique ideas in different skirts”. Mefaldas tú comes in different lines: MINImefaldas, Mefaldas DUO, Mefalda CAPA, among others. Also with a line dedicated to the youngest customers: Mefalditas Tu with skirts coordinated with adult garments. We collaborate with artists and graphic designers to make special editions of garments silkscreened with graphic work. And we are always developing new ideas on this very feminine apparel that has become our “leitmotiv”

How was “Mefaldas Tu” born? Mefaldas Tu was born from the mastery of a fashion designer who interprets fashion through wonderful patterns and from the vision of a publicist who one day fell in love with the skirts that her sister (the designer) made her. They realized that it was a good product and a wonderful way to create a brand new philosophy.

You do not follow fashion seasons. What is your creative ritual? Improvisation, inspiration and some chaos are part of the creative ritual of our brand. We benefit with the fact, as you say, that we do not follow seasons. We are nourished by a song, a movie, a stunning fabric that we find on a journey. A colour that catches our attention. A book. A photograph ... We make our Mefaldas with raw materials that tell us something. Therefore, we only make a few units of each Mefalda; because normally we acquire fabrics in small quantities, small bits of stories that we encounter and treasure. Hence, our brand is also meant “for collectors”. Since we, somehow, are collectors.

What are the key features of Mefaldas you? Creativity and versatility. Our designs are multisize, they fit from size 38 to size 44/46. It is a great advantage of our product and we are very proud to have been able to develop such a cool pattern. That makes our product ideal for gifts, because we are almost never certain the size when buying something for someone. And as gift that one makes to oneself is fantastic: even if you lose or gain some inches, your Mefalda will suit you just as well! Is it or is not it great? (Laughs ...) We also work with limited editions. We understand exclusivity from the perspective of having something unique and different, so that each person can bring a touch of personality and match the style she wants to, whenever she wants to. We work so that, with a Mefalda, you always get right.

companies and artists, such as “Mefaldas Types”, which was a limited edition of 10 super original skirts, printed by hand using traditional methods by Types in ink. Their workshop with the old machines and wooden letters, were the perfect inspiration for a very original Mefaldas, fully within the “handmade” spirit that we seek. And since we do not stop (laughs), we are already working in another project that will be launched soon, the Mefaldas Gallery, which will present the work of different artists screenprinted on a Mefalda which will be an icon!

A color, a shape, a texture? Colors, everyone. What refers to shape, the trapezoid which is what inspires our skirts Texture, any fabric that makes you feel good.

Is it in your plans a line for men? Of course! (Laughter) We dream of taking Mefaldas to men. They would be so, so handsome, elegant and different! In fact, we have a couple of revolutionary ideas on the lookout. Maybe in spring, perhaps in summer ... They just have to indicate us that they are ready for it and we will create unisex patterns right the way (laughs)

What do you want to transmit with each design? Many things! (Laughter) Modernity, personality, versatility ... we try to make our Mefaldas dynamic and follow the pace of modern, practical and feminine women. Our line Mefaldas DUO is a perfect example of this: A front panel with two different sides. A Mefalda which are two! In addition, the front panels are interchangeable, you can have a background base and several front panels to change your Mefalda according to the look you want every day. We love to experiment and find new ways of development. Hence, we have had collaborations with other

LEXANDRE

My name is Alexandre Ray, I am a twenty years old French guy and I’m a fashion blogger on iwalklikerihanna.blogspot.com. I live in the South of France in a city named Montpellier. It is a lovely and beautiful town,

always sunny and with amazing places and architecture.

MADE NOW 25

Why are you a blogger? I am currently a student in information and communications and I wish to work in fashion, which I love so much. I would like to start my career as a fashion journalist and I would like to become an editor-in-chief for an important fashion magazine later on. I also love photography and I desire to explore all aspects in fashion. Having a blog is a very interesting vehicle in the fashion world as it allows rapid interaction and communication with a wide range of people on a various number of subjects and it enables invention and exploration of shared ideas that cannot come about on one’s own. As well as this, I work with friends, who are on the brink of launching themselves into the blog world, on outfit photos. We spend a lot of time doing that and we enjoy our work together. We can certainly benefit all by exchanging our common work in our blogs. As a male fashion blogger, I enjoy sharing my style ideas and giving advice. Today, there is a huge number of blogs set up by women and dedicated to women. Men have a lot less choice and there are not as many male bloggers. Male fashion bloggers are predominately based in Paris, but as I live in Mont-pellier, I have an efficient and easy way to access this privileged circle via my blog.

What kind of satisfactions gives you to make a blog? I love exchanging ideas with people! I think it’s definitely my biggest satisfac-tion. I love commenting on my latest outfit, on what other people want to see, on fashion in general, or on any other subject. I am happy when a guy tells me that one of my outfits or even my style helps or inspires him. I really enjoy giving advice and I get great satisfaction out of it. Even if, at least, one person in this planet sees my work then it’s worth it! It’s quite gratifying.

Is there competition among male bloggers?

How does architecture influence your look? The place where I shoot my oufits is very important to me, it’s really essential. I always try to create a harmony between the place and the clothes I wear and the atmosphere that surrounds me. Sometimes, it can come about naturally : I find a location without knowing exactly what I’m looking for and then I get it! Other times, it’s reflected carefully and I know exactly what clothes and where to wear them. Montpellier is a very beautiful town mixing several different ar-chitectural periods. The town was built in the Middle Ages so there are a lot of small medieval alleys, squares and very beautiful old buildings in the centre, (the Ecusson quarter) that are steeped in history. Later on in the 19th century, Montpellier followed the example of Paris and its Hausseman architecture that I personally adore. Today, the centre of town has moved and there are new modern urban constructions that I highly appreciate too. These three major architectural styles create a harmonious set that gives Montpellier its special personality. It is very amusing to mix different clothing styles with the different architectural styles which the city possesses and to let you discover it through my photos !

What are the keys to a male blog? Honestly, I do not know. If I knew, I would be the most known and influential blogger in the world! *laugh*

From my side, there is not. There is, at the moment, more than 3 billion Inter-net users, and as many attractions and personalities, so there is enough room for all male bloggers to express their ideas. Without saying that we should all appreciate each other, we all have this common passion for fashion and style which should, instead of creating a rivalry, unite us. Personally, when I come across a blogger whose style I like, ( which is not necessarily similar to mine. I mean, we can appreciate a style without wanting to do the same) I follow his work and I do not hesitate to publicize his work but not everyone shares this attitude. I remember once I wrote an article concerning the Isabel Marant x H&M collection, which took me five hours to draft. On a Sunday morning, I was browsing a few blogs which I particularly appreciated and there, I found the article which I had carefully written on a blog that I admired a lot. As this blogger had a good reputation among other bloggers (and much better than mine!), my article had simply been copied without even quoting my name or asking me permission. I was very disappointed, irritated and flattered at the same time. I sent him an e-mail straight away to explain my way of thinking, as I am a very frank and direct person. I think that in the end he was afraid that the newcomer in the blogosphere was trying to take his place.

Your best look? I am like a chameleon: I can move from one style to another from one day to the next so to choose my best look is complicated. But I can tell you some basic tricks (finally, what I consider as my basic) for a successful look: a black jacket (leather or leatherette if possible), a white t-shirt (I have a small preference for a round collar but V-necks do the job too), pure denim or black jeans and a pair of white sneakers. With that, you have a trendy look that adapts very easily.

More seriously, I think that there are no rules. The only things that are neces-sary are passion, desire, personality and sincerity. From there, one can create everything! www.iwalklikerihanna.blogspot.com MADE NOW 27

Design for you is ... A way of life. From the moment you wake up until you go to bed again, everything in your life has been designed by someone. The fascinating thing is that there are objects that leave a mark on the lives of people, who make them as theirs.

A material, a color, a shape? Timber / Black / Serene forms.

Is there any difference between female and male design? Custom design is my goal. It’s true that the “Lady style” with predominance of cozy and relaxed decor do exist against the “Masculine style” with rotund and sober pieces. But honestly, I like playing with those two styles, never conditioning myself for any kind of stereotype.

What inspires you when creating?

How do you think fashion influences architecture / design?

What is your favorite architectural work?

Architects, designers and the fashion world are in continuous interaction. For instance, Balenciaga is studied in architecture at the university, and the union between his patterns serves today as inspiration for architects.

Fortunately I have a group of friends with great potential. They are photographers, sculptors, designers ... by the end of any meal with them, there always comes up a new project thanks to them.

“WHITE U” by Toyo Ito. The story behind this house is emotionally wrenching.

What is your favorite garment? A white shirt.

Finally, is there anything that you want to add? Thank you very much MADE NOW.

Products for everyone? All our products are unisex and are aimed at all audiences. Our approach is based on the diagnosis and personalized recommendation to the needs of each person. We have got a line trying to cover all needs: from baby products to products that take care of sensitive, acne-prone or oily skins. Also for those who seek hydration 24 hours or correct the signs of aging, for sport lovers who look for products which are sweat resistant or which protect them from the sun. We do not consider age, but the concerns that the person wants to treat, with a single objective: to be able to maintain a healthy looking skin. Men are more concerned with their appearance nowadays. How does Kiehl›s How help modern men? Although all our products are unisex, in Kiehl’s we are well aware that sometimes men seek different things than women. They want to look good, but they do not use as many products as women in order to achieve it. They prefer easy to use and understand, multi-task products, with ingredients that meet and provide tangible results. No matter how advanced is the marketing that attempts to attract the male sector, what they demand are simple solutions that go directly to the source of the problem and wich focus in the results. At Kiehl’s, we have been focused on the needs of our male consumers for decades, particularly since 1970 with the birth of White Eagle Shave Cream, favorite of our consumers for a long time, and it continues in our portfolio still today. With nearly 50 years of experience formulating products that meet the unique needs of men’s skin, scientists from Kiehl’s are real experts in developing suitable formulas for skin care, which leads them to achieve better results for the sophisticated men of today. What are the main qualities of Kiehl›s? Kiehl’s has endorsed six core values to which all members of the extended Kiehl’s family are assigned anywhere in the world. The brand is committed to the defense of the patterns that the founding family established in its origins (back in 1851) and which have been recognized and preserved ever since. The philosophy, the product patterns and the values that have always distinguished Kiehl’s remain unchanged: Science, Education, Willingness to Give, Service, Respect and Quality.

What new products Kiehl›s account? CCEye: Illuminates and perfects instantly + reduces discolouration + protects against future darkening. 1 Instantly brightens and refines skin: formulated with mineral pigments treated with amino acids, it helps reduce the appearance of eye bags and illuminates the area immediately. 2 Iluminates in the long run by reducing hyperpigmentation: the “Activated C” and the liquorice root are used in the formula to help reduce the appearance of pigmentation. 3 Protection: developed with broad spectrum SPF 20, it uses a UV filter, 100% mineral, for minimizing damage from UV rays and future discolouration. PRECISIONLIFINTG: Kiehl’s has a clinically proven formula that visibly tightens the skin and helps to reshape facial contours while minimizing the appearance of open pores. Sagging skin and dilated pores affect women worldwide. Although the signs of aging are often the loss of elasticity and facial definition, the progressively greater visibility of pores is also a key factor. Scientists at Kiehl’s were inspired by this data to create a formula that not only reaffirms, but it also offers visible anti-aging benefits which reduce the size of pores and contains the NEW Dermatologist Solutions ™ Precision Lifting & Pore Tightening Concentrate.

AND WHAT

?

ABOUT THEM

??

In this edition dealing with architecture and man, what can be better than to dedicate it to the care and concerns they currently have with their appearance, to get to know men’s fashion trends and above all to give some basic tips for those who want to be initiated on some issues.. But what concerns do they have about «beauty»?

?

?

Many of the men to whom I usually talk about this topic do not want to fit in this term in their daily lives. For them, beauty is a matter for women. I literally hear comments like “my partner and her lotions” or “potions” but the majority of men recognize that after shaving they have a hard time with their skin or they have doubts on whether to grow a beard or they have asked their partners for some “eye cream” for the “bags” under their eyes.

PROBLEMS AND ADVICE

The main topics of interest to men are often hair loss, body odour, nails, gray hair, the abdominal area, oral health, clothes and in a less extend wrinkles and skin blemishes. Perhaps you may not be worried for all of it, since, like in women all these problems appear with age or physical condition.

the grey hair (LOREAL expert silver or even a shampoo for highlights like ELVIVE) and, of course, to have an interesting attitude. If you don’t want to have grey hair, avoid very dark dyes, which are easily noticed. You better use scalable products of which you can get advice from specialized aesthetic shops.

Body odour It is crucial, a man with a neat, clean appearance and a pleasant smell has achieved a great deal. A good smell accompanies the first impression we have of a person. To put on perfume or not? I know guys who do not like using perfumes or do not need it. By just using after shave or cologne on their wrests and neck they feel ok. Do you like using perfume? Then I recommend you some which are very successful (1 million by Paco Rabanne, Aqua digio Armani Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana, 212 VIP Men by Carolina Herrera).

Skin:: It shouldn’t be a feminine habit uniquely. Men’s skin is thicker and fatter than women’s and although wrinkles take longer to pop up, care must be taken to prevent them. Some of them are acne, pimples, dryness after shaving, oily skin, eye bags, “crow’s feet” and skin blemishes. Ideally, one should pay a visit to the dermatologist for very specific problems, but if you can also use natural and pharmaceutical products. I recommend you have a look at brands like Carlabulgaria.com which have a specific range for men. You can also use pharmacy products against some male concerns like wrinkles and skin blemishes.

Hair: In this topic there is not much difference with women. To cut one’s hair regularly is essential in order to have a good look. Otherwise you will inevitably give an image of neglect even if everything else is fine. If you start having hair loss is best to go to your doctor to diagnose the cause and take appropriate measures in time. It is a bad idea to start using products “without rhyme nor reason” because it has probably a solution and you are not taking appropriate measures.

Body: One of the champions in men’s worries is a prominent abdomen. Every time I see a man looking in the mirror, the first thing that he shows or hides it is his tummy and only later on the look of his arm muscles. Do not obsess, you don’t have to be extra muscular or with a perfectly flat belly. It is enough to exercise to be healthy. Besides, one advantage that men have is that they can lose weight very fast. Almost all my friends achieve their desired weight by controlling dinner and doing sports. As for other parts of the body is interesting to note that hands are important, nails should be short and clean. It is not necessary to get a manicure or pedicure, but simply to have good hygiene and appearance. If you have very dry and blotchy hands and it is something that worries you, take a look at the range of Neutrogena products. They won’t disappoint you.

Another concern is grey hair, even though it is extremely seductive if it is part of a good hair cut. It is recommended to use a specific shampoo to enhance the brightness of

MALE

TRENDS

If you’re trying to decide whether to grow a beard or not, I want to tell you that the time is ripe to grow it or at least to try it. Beards are fashionable and it is a lasting trend, but a well shaped beard, avoiding to look like a beggar. The main thing is that you feel ok, that you feel better as it grows and that you don’t do it just for fashion or because your partner likes it. I have always recommended that wellbeing and beauty meet the needs of oneself because in that way it is externalized. And it is then when it really has an impact on others.

You can start with these simple steps: - Make a goal, a vision or inspiration for example on TV, magazines, movies etc. There are plenty visual contents that might help you. Don’t let yourself be influenced: the first weeks are very important.. - Search for old barber shops. They are resurfacing and they are the best ones shaping beards because they have a lot of experience, from classic shapes to currently used ones. Wait for three months to begin to shape it. Do not expect progress overnight. And you better refrain yourself from cutting it yourself, especially at the beginning, because any mistake or something you do not like surely will end up in full shave. - You can use beard oils at first because the hair is not soft enough yet and it is difficult to comb. I recommend the jojoba oils that you can buy in pharmacies and natural shops. Apart from helping your hair, they will hydrate your skin. Other products that are helpful usually contain castor, rosemary and/or argan oil. If you want something more specific you can consult those in tubarba.com - And above all care and grooming should be taken seriously. Wash it like your hair (it will also help hair conditioner), apply oil in order to hydrate it and comb it (preferably with a comb with thin tips). With these advices you can have an elegant, attractive and very sexy beard.

Protocol by Florรกngel Sรกnchez

OPENINGS AND PROTOCOL When a building is inaugurated, whatever kind it is, it is essential that an opening, in line with what you want to convey, is made. And the first thing one should consider is who will cut the ribbon. This should be made by the person with the highest authority at the event, either because he/she is the owner or because he/she is a competent authority. This person will be introduced by anyone from the protocol team. The ribbon usually cannot be of colours resembling a flag. It should be an institutional colour (usually red). It must be cut with a pair of scissors that are delivered on a silver tray.

Opening ceremonies in construction works usually include a tour around the facilities which are inaugurated. This route should be tested to avoid any mishap. It should also be taken into account how long the tour will take, considering that it will be made in the company of guests. And when possible, it is convenient to have a program of the event. It should be celebrated standing, with a lectern and a microphone available for speeches. There must be a presenter who makes an initial greeting and introduce both the event and the speakers. The host should give his speech first. The closing one should be by the guest of honour, if any. Remember to always go to any event dress according to the occasion, taking into account place, time and even the season when it is performed.

But what is clear is that there are several basic principles that we must follow if we want results, not only on the physical plane, but also in our health.

Our body has parallel with the central theme of this issue of Made Now, since the variety of body morphologies are comparable to the different artistic styles created by leading architects of all time. On the one hand, as living organisms we have matched general characteristics, but otherwise each of us has different traits which are visible both on the internal physiological plane (cardiopulmonary

capacity, metabolic activity, etc.), as on the external physical plane (height ; anatomical morphology, skin tone, eyes, hair,. body decoration in the form of piercings, tattoos and other). Based on this premise, I will focus on giving movement patterns to enhance common aspects present in the unique ensemble that your body represents.

The base: Our feet are subjected to high loads during the day, high heels, long hours standing with your body supporting the weight, pressure and lack of perspiration resulting from closed shoes, impacts due to sudden rush, together with many accumulated aggressions over time. Therefore, I propose a set of guidelines to release tension from your feet and strengthen their muscles and ligaments for injury prevention.. TIPTOE ELEVATIONS FOR CALF MUSCLES: It strengthens the plantar area, ankle, soleus and calf ligaments. On the other hand, shoes based on the concept of bare feet (those shown in the picture) provide some interesting joint, muscle and proprioceptive benefits. The welfare of your feet will be remarkably enhanced if you combine it with a session of foot massage by trained personnel.

The elevation view: It must be solid, winding and beautiful. Although you are born with a specific morphology inherited from your genetic code, training should be addressed to improve your forms and the supporting elements of your entire structure in order to ensure your good health. SUSTAINED SQUATS (hold this position for 20 seconds, repeat 6 times). Legs and buttocks. LUMBAR SHORTENINGS (3 times, 20 seconds each side) and PLANKS: Abdominal and lumbar area.

Sustained elements:

As its name suggests, they don’t support the central body structure, but other highly functional and essential to the daily functioning parts of the organism. Hence we must care about working the arms, shoulders and other muscular areas. DELTOIDS AND SHOULDERS LIFTS (3x15 repetitions holding five seconds at the highest point). BRACHIAL BICEPS CURL (3x15 repetitions holding five seconds in right angle elbow position).
