6. SELECT THE SIZE OF EACH CHARACTER. They may be the same size or staggered. (Note: 5" is the standard height. The minimum is ½". For anything over 5" a Special Construction quote must be requested for availability and up-charge.) While the max size letter is 5" high, we may have to scale one or more of the letters down a bit so 3 letters still fit in a max 10 ½" width. It depends on the font style chosen and the format (i.e.: all the same size letters, all caps, etc). If specifying all 3 letters at 5” and this exceeds the 10 ½" overall width, the monogrammer will use their discretion in determining how to adjust the monogram to fit within the 10 ½" (typically by making the center letter 5" and scaling down the letters on either side to fit).

11 THE FRAME

Frames are kiln-dried hardwood, in large-size dimensions, shaped to the contour of each design.

Corner blocks, glued and screwed into position, reinforce every frame.

Joints are snugly fitted, glued, and double-doweled for durability and rigidity.

Styles that feature dressmaker skirts have rail and leg tops beveled to prevent fabric wear.

THE SEAT SPRINGS

Tempered steel non-rusting coil springs are interlaced by hand in 8 directions with strong polyester twine, then fastened firmly to the seat rails. Pearson’s exclusive Salem Rods® which are steel rods suspended from the seat rails by tightly coiled springs, achieve extra support plus flexibility to the seat.

Seat springs rest on a non-absorbent odor-free polypropylene web base. A black base fabric neatly conceals the inner construction.

Non-absorbent odor-free polypropylene sheeting covers the seat springs, and is in turn covered by polyester batting and a sateen seat decking.

THE CUSHIONS

Pearson’s standard cushion, F6, has coil springs in muslin pockets mounted in a box fabricated from polyurethane foam.

This unit is wrapped in layers of top quality polyester fiber on the top, bottom and both sides.

This unit is then inserted into a down-proof casing which has a channeled top and bottom. Each channel is filled with a combination of 50% polyester fiber, 45% waterfowl feathers, and 5% goose down. Additional luxurious cushion and pillow choices are Available:.

21 THE SKIRT OR BASE BORDER

The dressmaker skirt is held in position by a sewn panel that is fitted to the frame, allowing the skirt to hang freely.

All Pearson skirts have a sewn fabric lining that holds an interlining for lasting shape and smoothness.

Fabric patterns are carefully matched, from inside back to cushion top and boxing, to the skirt or base border.

THE INSIDE BACK

Woven polypropylene is firmly attached to the back frame to support the inside back materials.

Light weight coil springs are placed in muslin pockets, then stapled together to form a superb back support.

A thin layer of polyurethane foam insulates the springs from the fiber filling and fabric.

Layers of fluffy polyester fiber lend surface softness to the underlying spring support.

THE ARMS AND OUTSIDE BACK

Polypropylene is used inside the arms as a base to hold the foam and fiber that feel soft to the touch.

A double under-cover holds a layer of polyester fiber so that no sharp edges of the frame touch the fabric.

The dressmaker detailing of the outside back contains a soft inner lining plus a sewn under-lining for controlled shape and smoothness.

...a true one-of-a-kind "Luxury Ride"

In a traditional 8-way hand-tied spring up, the coil springs are supported by a solid polypropylene deck with steel bands running from front to back underneath each row of coils. In this scenario the polypropylene deck is designed to alleviate flex allowing the seat cushion and springs to do the work.

At Pearson, we use our exclusive Salem Rods® construction for the coil spring deck. Instead of using the traditional steel bands underneath the deck that restrict movement, we use Salem Rods® between each row of coils. The Salem Rods® are attached to the front and back rails and incorporate an additional spring to allow for extra movement. This unique construction allows the decking to give ever so slightly. This allows the seat cushion, the coil springs AND the Salem Rods® to work in tandem creating a true oneof-a-kind "Luxury Ride".

Salem Rods® allow give for more comfort.

When specifying the seat cushion construction on an order, do not neglect to specify the pillow back construction as well. An undesirable combination of choices could result in unsatisfactory seating and less comfort.

FORMULA 1 SEAT CUSHIONS • Tailored

Ultracel® high resiliency polyurethane foam core (1), is wrapped on top, front, and bottom with polyester fiber (2) glued to the core. This is inserted into a sewn non-woven polyester casing (3). This cushion maintains a smooth, tailored look and is hypoallergenic. The pillow back construction typically used with Formula 1 is Formula 14 which, like the former, is also hypoallergenic.

FORMULA 2 (F2) SEAT CUSHIONS • Luxury

Coil Springs in muslin pockets are mounted in a box fabricated from polyurethane foam. This unit is wrapped in polyester fiber and inserted into a down-proof muslin casing which has a channeled top and bottom. Each channel is filled with a combination of 75% waterfowl feathers and 25% white duck down. This cushion offers traditionally luxurious comfort while maintaining its shape. The pillow back construction typically used with Formula 2 is Formula 3 which contains the same proportions of down and feathers. Formula 7, however, is also appropriate in combination with this cushion.

FORMULA 3 (F3) SEAT CUSHIONS AND BACK PILLOWS • Luxury

A mixture of 75% waterfowl feathers and 25% white duck down is blown into a down-proof muslin casing which is constructed with dividers sewn to form channels which prevent the filling from shifting in use. Available: for both cushions and pillows, this construction offers the billowy softness of down and feathers in a completely unstructured look. Both cushions and backs will require “refluffing” after each use. Formula 3 seat cushions are normally ordered with Formula 3 pillow backs as well.

FORMULA 9 (F9) SEAT CUSHIONS • Designer’s Special

Coil Springs in muslin pockets are mounted in a box fabricated from polyurethane foam. This unit is then wrapped in polyester fiber and inserted in a downproof muslin casing. Because there are no feathers or down, this cushion is hypoallergenic. Most pillow back constructions are compatible with Formula 9; however, where allergies are of concern, the foam/fiber Formula 14 is recommended.

FORMULA 10 (F10) SEAT CUSHIONS • Designer’s Option

A soft compression Ultracel® foam core (1) is wrapped on top, front edge and bottom with polyester fiber (2) and is inserted in channeled down-proof muslin casing (3). Each channel is filled with 50% polyester fiber, 45% waterfowl feathers, and 5% goose down (4). This cushion provides deep softness while retaining its shape. The recommended pillow back construction for Formula 10 is Formula 7.

FORMULA 14 (F14) BACK PILLOWS • Tailored

A soft compression, resilient Ultracel® foam core is wrapped with a thick blanket of polyester fiber. The wrapped foam is then hand filled into a 200 thread count down-proof ticking. This construction provides a hypoallergenic option and is recommended for use with F1 and F9 seats.

FORMULA 16 (F16) SEAT CUSHIONS • Super Plush

An Ultracel® foam core (1) is surrounded by a down-proof cotton casing which is channeled and filled with a mixture of 50% polyester fiber (2), 45% waterfowl feathers and 5% goose down (3). This cushion is for the customer who wants the all down-and feather look, but with less maintenance. A soft foam core helps the cushion to keep its shape, but a soft, unstructured appearance will remain. Some “refluffing may be required occasionally. Note: availability is limited depending on boxing size; consult price list. The recommended pillow back constructions for Formula 16 are Formula 3 and Formula 7.

FORMULA 6 (F6) SEAT CUSHIONS Designer’s Choice • Our Standard Seat

Coil Springs (1) in muslin pockets (2) are mounted in a box fabricated from polyurethane foam (3). This unit is wrapped in polyester fiber (4) and inserted into a down-proof muslin casing (5) which has a channeled top and bottom. Each channel is filled with a combination of 50% polyester fiber, 45% waterfowl feathers, and 5% goose down (6). The pillow back construction typically used with Formula 6 is Formula 7 which contains the same proportion of fiber, down and feathers. Formula 3, however, is also appropriate in combination with this cushion.

FORMULA 7 (F7) BACK PILLOWS Designer’s Choice • Our Standard Back

This back pillow is constructed the same way as the Formula 3 pillow; however, it is filled (1) with a mixture of 50% polyester fiber, 45% waterfowl feathers, and 5% goose down. It offers essentially the same features as the Formula 3 at a more economical price.
