Made & Worn
AUTUMN 18
The Magic of Making Are there any sweeter words for a knitter to hear than “I love your sweater! Where did you get it?” We spend weeks deliberating over patterns, squishing yarn and pairing colours before the moment even arrives to cast those first few stitches on to our needles. Then the magic begins as we create loops, knots and twists; we work cables, lace and texture; we surround our hands with colour as we follow intricate colourwork charts. We spend days, weeks, months and even sometimes years working on a project. It gets picked up, put down, taken away with us and hidden in the depths of a cupboard. It sees us through the best of times and the worst of times. It keeps us company when we are alone and offers a talking point when we are around others. It can help us while away the hours, or be the beacon at the end of a long day, drawing you home. Sharing its progress can build friendships and bonds. Gifting it can strengthen existing relationships, and become a physical symbol of care and affection. And all of this can give us the opportunity to answer that glorious question with a simple, yet magical answer: “Oh this? I made it myself!” To be able to make something that is truly, unequivocally unique to yourself, and to be able to show it to the world with pride is what drives us to do what we do. We hope that making one of our sweaters makes you feel that satisfaction and pride, or that they inspire you to take on a challenge for the first time. We believe there is nothing as magical as that feeling, and we hope you feel the same. Ruby & Alice
Ellacott
Drop Shoulder Sweater Ellacott is the ultimate beginner sweater! Ellacott is split into three equal sections so you can play with colour combinations and show off your favourite yarn to the world. Work in two colours for bold stripes, three contrasting colours for a daring look or perhaps explore tonal gradients? The choice is yours! Worked flat in pieces from the bottom up, Ellacott is worked in stocking stitch throughout. The front and back are worked with no shaping, and the sleeves are worked from the bottom up with simple increases before being seamed to the body pieces. The neckband is picked up and a few rows are worked in the round before casting off, creating a neat rolled neckband. Made & Worn patterns help make fit issues a thing of the past! Designed to be worn with 20 cm positive ease over the bust and with fitted sleeves, Ellacott requires six different body measurements to help you create a sweater that you cannot wait to show off!
