O místico Fanal

Fanal é um dos mais célebres lugares do concelho do Porto Moniz. A sua beleza natural é única, composta pela floresta habitada por árvores centenárias, algumas cujo nascimento data antes do descobrimento da ilha. Com o seu harmonioso bosque de Tis (Ocotea foetens) centenários perfeitamente desenhados no horizonte em conjunto com a toda a flora que envolve o espaço, o Fanal faz parte da floresta Laurissilva, considerada Património Mundial Natural da Unesco e parte integrante da Rede NATURA 2000. A floresta do Fanal ostenta beleza durante todo o ano, no entanto, maioritariamente no inverno apresentase com características particularmente especiais. Em dias de nevoeiro denso torna-se mágica pelos cenários teatrais que exibe, onde os ramos e as raízes das misteriosas árvores velhas apresentam formas grotescas e místicas, como se estivessem a pousar propositadamente para a lente pronta a capturá-las. Muitos são os fotógrafos profissionais, outros simplesmente amantes deste fenómeno, que procuram o Fanal em dias de neblina para conseguirem fotografias incríveis e únicas deste cenário surreal. Outro fenómeno peculiarmente fascinante, sobretudo no inverno, acontece na floresta. A lagoa de inverno da serra do Fanal, qual cratera vulcânica, O enche-se com a força das chuvas criando um ambiente de serenidade a meio da floresta Laurissilva. O percurso PR13 – Vereda do Fanal tem início no planalto do Paul da Serra e término junto ao Posto Florestal do Fanal. Ao longo de 4 horas, o percurso conta com cerca de 10,8km de natureza no seu estado mais puro.

The mystical Fanal

A truly enchanted forest nestled between Ribeira da Janela and the Paul da Serra plateau. Fanal is one of the most famous places in Porto Moniz. With its forest of centuriesold Madeira laurels (Ocotea foetens) that define the landscape together with the unique flora, Fanal is part of the Laurissilva forest, considered a Unesco World Natural Heritage Site and an integral part of the Natura 2000 Network. Fanal forest is beautiful all year round, but in winter it has particularly special features. On foggy days it becomes magical because of the theatrical scenes it displays, where the branches and roots of the mysterious old trees take on grotesque and mystical shapes, as A if they were deliberately posing for the lens ready to capture them. Many are the professional photographers, others simply lovers of this phenomenon, who seek out Fanal on foggy days to get incredible and unique photographs of this surreal scenario. Another peculiarly fascinating phenomenon, especially in winter, happens in the forest. A lake forms in a volcanic crater, filled with the force of the rains, creating an atmosphere of serenity in the middle of the Laurissilva forest. The trail PR13 - Vereda do Fanal starts at the plateau of Paul da Serra and ends near the Forestry Station of Fanal. In 4 hours, the trail has about 10,8km of nature at its purest state.
