commercial design - five boroughs The name Five Boroughs is dervied from the five boroughs of NYC - Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, The Bronx, and Staten Island. They are referenced heavily in art and music and were established in 1898 during consolidation.

LOCATION What’s your Borough?

Nestled into the main level of The Haven Hotel, Five Boroughs Bistro and Cocktail lounge is serving up fresh design. An open bistro kitchen, vintage decor, and neon art all work together to create an atmosphere comfortable enough for brunch, and trendy enough for Friday night. The casual layout combines lounge style seating, communal tables, banquets, and round channel back booths. Clean lines and high end lighting are paired with rustic chopped wood and antique service stations.

SIXOHFOUR CHAIR

07

Course: Furniture Design Client : Small Vancouver Shop Owner Objective: Students were asked to create a piece of furniture using cardboard and a ‘slotting’ system’ for assembly. No glue or tape was to be used in the assembly of the furniture. Concept sketches, construction drawings, and a manual for the item were presented to the class as a final project.

INSPIRATION SKETCH

The chair was designed to be comfortable, extremely strong, and customizable to various city skylines. Influenced by key Vancouver landmarks, the construction of the chair was inspired by recently popular cardboard animal busts, and other slotted furniture.

CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS

ASSEMBLY PHOTOS The step by step process of assembling the chair was drawn up and photographed during construction. These instruction manuals were then used during the final presentation as a test to see how clear and informative these guides were to the ‘consumer’
