KARL C. PARRISH BAKE SALE!! About the Bake Sale This Friday February 14th, Karl C. Parrish school will have a bake sale! The NJHS members decided they should have a Valentine’s Day Bake Sale in order to raise money since they lost some during their visit to a poor school last Wednesday. They bought supplies and snacks for the kids in Domingo Sabio, which cost KCP some money that they needed to regain. They sold many different things in the Bake sale, some like blondies, brownies, donuts, cookies, ice cream and more! It was a huge success for the school! Lots of people bought food and helped raise enough money to repay what KCP lost.
About the poor school Domingo Sabio was the school the NJHS members visited that Wednesday. They bought several school materials and snacks to bring to them, which they were supposed to give out. They gave their snacks frist, to some elementary school children, and then they gave out the kits. The children were overjoyed. After that, they turned on some music and danced with the kids and had lots of fun. There were also the middle school kids to help. The school gave them kits as well. The school was very grateful and wished they would arrive again. They said they would probably help the school again some other time.
GORDON RAMSEY INTERVIEW We had interviewer Evelyn Thomas visit Gordon Ramsay and ask him a few questions. We thank Gorgon Ramsay for accepting our petition. Evelyn Thomas: Hello how are you, Mr. Ramsay? Gordon Ramsay: Oh please, call me Gordon. I’m fine, Evelyn, thank you for interviewing me today. ET: You’re welcome. Shall we start? GR: I would like to, yes. ET: How old were you when you began your career? GR: Well I started paying more attention to cooking at age 19, and worked at many restaurants, but at age 27 I was offered the chance to become head chef. ET: Great. What do you like best about cooking? GR: Just being able to create something out of my own hands. Something delicious, it’s just amazing to me. ET: What’s one of your favorite recipes to make? GR:Well I really like the Bacon-Wrapped Portabella Bun Burgers, they’re very delicious in my opinion. ET: Do you have any tv shows? GR: Yes, I have two. Hell’s Kitchen and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares. I have appeared on other shows though. ET: Why would they be called like that? GR: I think it’s because they might be hinting at my temper and fiery passion. ET: How do people react or think about you? GR: Well, I’ve been called arrogant, narcissistic, vulgar and ferocious. But we’ve all got haters. I know I’ve got fans so I’m happy with that.
ET: Why would some people think like that? GR: It has to do with my strong passion for cooking. I want everything to be perfect so I might blow up sometimes. But it’s just how I am. ET: Do you have any message for all those readers out there? GR: Just to say that if you love cooking, keep doing it. It really pays off. ET: Well thank you so much Mr. Ransay. I really enjoyed learning more about you. GR: No problem Evelyn. It was fun.
Baking for your kids Have you ever wanted to bake cookies for your kids? I bet you have, but have you tried adding a theme to them? Most children enjoy eating cookies with their favorite super hero character or maybe their favorite power puff girl. But for this we will show you mothers how to decorate cookies to look like SpongeBob. This is only for the icing part, you already need to have the dough ready. You can read about how to make cookies on page 21. First you need to make the icing. You need yellow and green, yellow for the skin and green for the edges and holes. When you’ve got your cookie dough shaped into a square with squiggly sides, you’re ready to add the icing. You need to carefully trace the green icing around the edges. Don’t add too much, though, be moderate. After you’re done wait a little till it’s a little dry. Then you can add the yellow. If you leave a few empty spaces don’t worry. You can fill them in later. The last thing you will add are his pores. You can add them any where you’d like, it doesn’t really matter. After that you’re almost done! Bake them and take them out when the icing has finished hardening. Then you add some white icing for the eyes, and you’ve got a decent SpongeBob cookie. By: Sylvia White
You’ve probably heard many tips to eating healthy. Some say you should stay unrealistically thin. Others might deprive you from foods you love. But those aren’t good ways to eating healthy. Not very fun either! But we bring you better tips for maintaining a healthy diet in a comfortable way. First of all, you need to start slow with your diet, take small steps instead of one big change, and don’t just make a strict diet where you can’t eat many of the food you love. Learn to eat them in a healthy way or find healthier recipes for them instead of giving up your favorite foods up completely! Remember the key to a successful diet: moderation is key! Think “smaller portions” instead of “no portions”. Healthy eating also has to do with how you eat. Sometimes you could overeat if you think you’re hungry when you really aren’t, or you might chew too fast or not enough; take your time! Another tip is to eat a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables. Mostly, each color from a fruit of vegetable means a certain amount of vitamins minerals and other nutrients. So make sure to eat a rainbow of fruits and vegetables! One other thing we tend to overlook is the amount of sugar and salt we use. With sugar, try avoiding sugary drinks, sweeten foods yourself and eat naturally sweet food. For salt, try to avoid processed or prepackaged food, opt for fresh or frozen vegetables instead of canned, cut back on salty snacks, and check labels and choose low-salt or reduced –sodium products. Those are all the tips I have but you can search more tips on my website eathealthier.com. By Wendy Cole
