Madeley High School

Madeley High School School Clothing Policy Abstract Madeley High school has an official school uniform which all pupils are expected to wear. We are conscious of cost and have kept the dress as simple as possible. Most items can be purchased quite easily from a wide variety of shops. Ties and badges are available from the school.

Introduction Our school uniform policy requires the support of parents. The policy is an agreement between the school and parents that make it clear for parents to clothe their son/ daughter in the required uniform as set out below. All students are required to wear PE uniform as stated below for PE and sports. Students are expected to wear their uniform with pride. Uniform appearance should be neat and tidy, with shirts and blouses tucked in. Top buttons should be fastened and ties should be touching collars in Years 7, 8 and 9 as from September 2009. This will then continue for each year group on a rolling programme so that by 2011 intake all students will have top buttons fastened and ties up to their collar. Students are to travel to and from school in the correct uniform and to wear it appropriately during the school day and at all school functions unless stated otherwise.

Changes in the school uniform are through discussion at Governors meetings and consultation with parents.

Inappropriate use of mobile phones will result in it being taken away for ‘safeguarding’. This can then be collected from reception.

It is the responsibility of the student and parents for any valuable items and the school cannot take any responsibility for lost or stolen items, however we will endeavour to investigate any such problems if they arise. MP3/ Ipod/ headphones The school accepts that technological advances are important in the learning process and use of MP3/ Ipod/ headphones can support this. It is up to staff to use their discretion to allow these items within the classroom as a learning tool. Students may use them before and after school, during break and lunchtime (social time) however they must be turned off and put away at any other time, this includes headphones. Any inappropriate use of these items will result in it being taken away for safeguarding. This can then be collected from reception. It is the responsibility of the student and parents for any valuable items and the school cannot take any responsibility for lost or stolen items, however we will endeavour to investigate any such problems if they arise. Lost Property Within a school a vast amount of lost property is generated. All items should be clearly marked with the students name so that they can be returned. Any property that is not claimed will have several opportunities to claim before it is recycled.

Monitoring and Evaluation The position with relation to school dress is monitored by all staff with form tutors being the people who see pupils first thing in the morning and afternoon. Subject staff will reinforce standards before, during and at the end of lessons. All staff will reinforce standards around school throughout the day. If necessary issues are raised with parents.
