Located at the southern edge of Marseille, France, on the west side of boulevard Michelet just south of the Prado junction, the architect Le Corbusier designed the Unité d’Habitation to resemble the streets of a neighborhood. With its human proportions, chunky pilotis, and interior "streets", the Unité d’Habitation has redefined high-density housing by reconstructing a city inside an 18-story slab block. If one climbs these 18-stories and looks down, they will see that the building is situated in the heart of a large park, its main elevations facing East towards the mountains and West towards the sea.
