Comedy horror
Shaun of the dead is a comedy horror because the protagonists are unconven7onal heroes. for example the main protagonist ‘Simon Peg’ is a 29 year old man, who wears smart clothing which most would say is not suitable in a zombie apocalypse.
The Scary movie collec7on of films are comedy horrors because they imitate a combina7on of different horror films to mock these horror films. Another reason for these films being a comedy horror is for their unrealis7c ac7ons. For example, in scary movie one girl in the cinema is so loud and annoying that everyone in the cinema takes out knives and stabs her to death, before ‘GhosJace’ the real serial killer can even get to her.
Slasher horror Saw is part of the slasher sub-‐genre because it focusses on torture and gore. ALer waking up in a 7ny cell, two men find themselves vic7m of a serial killer who plays games with his vic7ms and gives them one last chance to survive. If they wish to live, they each have to play their own game as the killer has told them on an audio script. As the film goes on, connec7ons between the vic7ms and the true iden7ty of the never-‐ showed-‐up killer are revealed.
A Nightmare on Elm street is part of the slasher sub-‐genre because Freddie krueger literally slashes people with his hands. The film is packed with gore and dark themes. For example, at one point in the film Krueger rips the veins out of a man and forces the man to walk, like a puppet.
Science fic7on horror
Alien is part of the sci-‐fi horror genre because the events take place in space, in the not too far future. The group arrive on a planet aLer hearing an SOS signal and discover that they are not alone. Gradually the members of the crew are killed leaving only Sigourney Weaver. The image of the alien has copied by other films and have been craLed in the same way ever since.
Prometheus is a prequel to alien, as it explains where the alien in this film comes from. Again it is set in space with doctors trying to seek the meaning of life. In this film they come face to face with an alien. With the female character of the doctor reminding us of former Sigourney Weaver’s character. It also uses other scien7fic features such as David the robot.
