colour relativity colour card studies : exercise one
The exercise given was to try to make two swatches of the same colour look like it is two different colours. In the first example below, I have placed the beige swatch on two widely different hues ( light beige on left and dark blue on right). The swatch on the left looks dark when a lighter colour is on the background and the swatch on the left looks like a light colour as the background is darker.
8
To emphasise this effect, buffer colours were added in the middle so that it creates a visual buffer when looking at the swatches. The examples above is done with colors of the same hue but difference in saturation and value. This teaches me how color meanings and perception can differ depending on context
9
more samples and testings were made to study the colour action. The red swatch look different against the pink and orange. The swatch looks like it has an orange tint when it is placed on top of the pink and the swatch looke like it has a brown tint when placed on top of the orange.

reversed ground colour card studies : exercise three
14
In this exercise, the task is two make three colours appear as two . This is achieved by using two fields of color, essentially large background rectangles, and floating a shared swatch, which are strips of colours placed on each side of of these fields.
15
subtraction studies colour card studies : exercise four
In this exercise, two different foreground colors are made to appear the same based on the ground they are floating on. We will be taking four colors and making them appear to be three. The background subtracts few qualities from the foreground, manipulating the perceived colour..

17
colour deception studies colour card studies : exercise four - after image
In this exercise, an experience of an afterimage is caused by a previously seen stimulus, when that stimulus itself is no longer present. This is demonstrated by gazing at a black dot drawn in the middle of a chosen colour card.and then transferring the gaze to the black dot in the middle of a white colour card. On the white colour card, it exhibits inverted colours otherwise known as complementary colours of the subjected colour card.

colour card studies : exercise five - plastic action
The objective of this exercise is to create an illusion of transparency by overlapping colors and adding a third colour or increasing the level of lightness. The overlapping colours appear to be translucent and builds up in level of opacity.
22
23
colour card studies : exercise six - optical mixture
Optical color mixing is a phenomenon that happens when a viewer perceives color in an image as a result of two or more colors that are positioned next to, or near each other. The perceived color is not actually on the surface. Instead, the color that the viewer perceives is what colour would result from the mixing of the colors that are actually on the surface.

colour card studies : exercise seven - benzold effect
The Bezold effect occurs when the hue of a color is altered in appearance by the presence of surrounding colors. The Bezold Effect is also referred to as the "assimilation effect," an optical illusion where a color's hue or value is affected by the color or colors surrounding it. This can be seen in the colour card example below.

colour card studies : exercise eight - intersecting colours
The objective of this exercise is to determine a foregoundcolour that matches the properties of the background, but in different hue.

29
temperature and humidity colour card studies : exercise nine
The exercise examines the contrast between warm vs. cool, and picking out colours and determining the colour palette of each picture.

vibrating boundaries colour card studies : exercise eleven
Vibrating Boundaries is a colour action phenomena that emerges out of bold and highly saturated color schemes , resulting in a occurrence where the edges of two directly adjacent colors appear to merge, blur and glow, giving the illusion of motion.
38
39
vanishing boundaries colour card studies : exercise twelve
Vanishing boundaries is an effect that occurs when two colors of similar hue, value, and saturation are placed adjacent to one another and appear to blend into each other.

blood red library design development : space one - filtered colour
The library is a room with large red tinted windows filtering an intense color , during the day, that desaturates and dominates all the other existing colors in the room at the same time, invoking a sense fear with sublimity.

79
bright neon lines design development : space two - filtered colour
The corridor is a covered walkway with three slits of bright filtered colors, imitating neon lights in a futuristic city. This is achieved as the space is dark, and with sun light filtering and squeezing through the narrows slits, bright and harsh strokes of light is achieved. Colors used are pink, purple and teal.

calm blue ocean
design development : space three - reflected colour
The bedroom reflects blue in the day. A large slit of skylight is introduced at one edge of the roof with a protruded wall at the bottom painted in blue. Daylight gets reflected in blue, resulting in a calming blue room. Intensity of the reflected blue color varies throughout the day.

design development : space four - coloured shadows
The pool casts colored shadows of the ripples from the surface of the water as well as the shadows of the person using the pool. This creates a space that invokes serenity despite the energetic and abrupt change of colors casted

jacaranda and the pink design development : space five - colour relativity
The bright pink walled courtyard is a space where the couple could enjoy their food and conversations with a delightful view of the beautiful purple Jacaranda crown casted against the empty blue sky. The creates a color palette of blue, purple and pink from top of bottom. The right pink is chosen to compliment the purples of the jacaranda and to create a sense of romance and love for the space.

la casa de colores La Casa De Colores is a home designed for a young couple that consists of different color spaces designed accordingly to its spatial function, invoking different set of feelings and atmospheres in different spaces. The library is an intense red space where it teaches the couple to suppress their fears and see beauty instead. The corridor at the adjacent of this room is a relatively dark space with three slits that filters strokes of neon colors to that creates a playful and futuristic space. This space then leads the couple to their bedroom where blue light is reflected, invoking a sense of calmness and still. The room is connected to the pool area via the bathroom as a buffer space. The pool casts beautiful colored shadows of its ripples against the wall with the primary colored lights places at the bottom of the pool, creating a space of serenity despite the subtle chaos of reflections. The courtyard has two bright pink painted walls that brings out the purples from the large crown of the Jacaranda tree with the plain blue sky at the back. This creates a visual color palette that evokes the feeling of love, romance, and beauty.
