role in the recruitment, engagement and retention of students while supporting a healthy environment for the entire campus community. We expect the strong participation trends witnessed in 2014-2015 to continue.

Recreation and Wellness Commission OVERVIEW The Associated Students Recreation & Wellness Commission, consisting of elected and appointed students, along with staff advisors, provides oversight of Aztec Recreation programs, policies, services and budget. The Commission’s members are dedicated to promoting active, healthy living for SDSU students and the campus community.

COMISSIONERS’S LET TER Hello Aztecs, Associated Students and Aztec Recreation are entering one of the most exciting eras of campus recreation in SDSU history. In the last year, the A.S. Recreation and Wellness Commission advocated for SDSU students by voting to approve a brand new, all-weather turf field for recreation use equipped with LED sports lighting. Through communication of an Eight Dimensions of Wellness model, our student commission also worked closely with professional staff from numerous departments across campus in introducing a new health initiative: #LiveWellAztecs. It was exciting to learn about the continuous improvements to our programs and facilities to assure our students are receiving a top-tier campus recreation experience. The Recreation & Wellness Commission of Associated Students is dedicated to advocating and amplifying the student voice with issues or ideas revolving around fitness, recreation and wellness on campus and serving as commissioner has been a highlight of my college experience. It was amazing to see how much recreation impacts the lives of students on our campus. Associated Students and Aztec Recreation are key elements to student success and it was very humbling to be able to have a role in something so impactful. Best,

TYLER AGUILAR A.S. Recreation and Wellness Comissioner 2013-2015 A.S. Vice President of External Relations 2015-2016

Financial Summary OVERVIEW Aztec Recreation offers a broad range of recreation programs, services and facilities to the SDSU community. The department is responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the Aztec Recreation Center (ARC), Aztec Aquaplex, Peterson Gym Racquetball courts, ARC Express and Aztec Lanes. Revenue is derived through membership sales, fee for service programs including instructional classes, bowling and games, personal training, swim lessons, outdoor trips and team challenge programming, retail sales, and facility rentals, as well as Instructionally Related Activity (IRA) student fees.

Aztec Recreation, an increase in minimum wage, and a full year of operational expenses for the ARC Express and Aztec Lanes were primary contributors to increased expenses year over year. The high demand for facilities and programs will increase program supply, utilities and repair costs and accelerate equipment replacement cycles into the future. Consequently, a focus is on ensuring Aztec Recreation maintains adequate reserves to address these needs. A strategic focus will continue on executing plans to grow revenues and find operational efficiencies to maximize Aztec Recreation’s ability to best serve students and the greater SDSU community.

Demand for recreation programming at San Diego State University is extremely robust, with record membership numbers being realized during the 2014-2015 year. An investment in the restructure of
