TINY THE BEAR CHARACTER GUIDELINES
TINY CHARACTER OVERVIEW Aye, man. Tiny is a big, friendly Glasgow bear with a cheeky smile and a cheery spirit. He’s got big muscles, a bit of a gut and a great big heart. Tiny’s a dad. He’s not perfect, but he always does his best to do the right thing for his weans. He works hard at the building site to put food on the table. He makes the time to help with their homework (or try, anyway…) And he always keeps them away from cigarettes and second-hand smoke. Tiny is always willing to talk to everyone, at home, in the neighbourhood or down the pub. When he talks, people listen – not because he’s threatening or hectoring, but because he’s everyone’s big pal.

Tiny is everyone’s big pal, with wide shoulders and long, muscular arms. He’s ready to stand up for you, but also to give you a big, warm hug.
SIDE VIEW
His big heart could make anyone believe in him and listen to his words of wisdom. Tiny’s paws are strong enough to knock you out, but you can trust that he’s on your side.
THE MANY FACES OF TINY One bear, many emotions Tiny’s a big enough guy to show how he’s feeling. He gets angry when people don’t do the right thing by their kids or his, but he doesn’t get violent or shouty – he gets sarcastic. Tiny’s a big joker but he’s got a serious point about keeping smoking away from children. Do show Tiny speaking from the heart, but don’t show him angry or hectoring. He understands that sometimes people smoke – he just wants to protect the weans.
HOW TINY TALKS A witty guy Tiny is a Glasgow bear through and through. He’s casual and friendly, but not afraid to have fun, and happy speaking in Glasgow patter. Shorter words and phrases are better, and slang is encouraged. No swearing though (he’s a family bear). Tiny never uses jargon – as far as he’s concerned, a “stakeholder” is someone carrying a fencepost. Through insight gathering with young people in Easterhouse, we’ve compiled a number of quotes Tiny can use when talking about big issues around secondhand smoke. Illustrations and examples of these are available separately within the resource pack.
AND THE WAY HE MOVES...
THE PLACES TINY GOES Building site Tiny works in construction. His pals always count on him when they’re on a job. Tiny can raise issues around secondhand smoke and smoking in the workplace here, including keeping work vehicles smoke-free.
The Pub After hours, Tiny sometimes stops by the pub with his mates. This is the ideal situation to compare pubs since the smoking ban to homes where people light up.
At Home Tiny doesn’t mind If guests at his place want to have a fag – but they have to take it right outside. The ideal place to talk about how to keep your home smoke-free.
In The Car Windows up or windows down, Tiny knows smoking in a car when children are present is dangerous.
