Your Questions About Meditation Podcast
Richard asks…
Trying to learn to meditate, but not interested in talking to God? I’m sorry if that sounds bad, but I am trying to learn how to meditate, but all I can find are things that talk about using meditation to talk to God, or achieve enlightenment. Does anyone know any intro books or even a podcast that teaches meditation simply to relax and control the mind without any other external ideas of religion in it?? I respect the fact that meditation is often used as a religious tool, but all I need right now is something to help me calm down and de-stress.
answers: Are you open minded? Try looking up meditation on google, but include to terms ‘new age’ or ‘pagan.’ I’m being serious. I can give you a few examples of some sights including information of meditation/how-to by googling simple terms like ‘meditation’ or ‘how to meditate’: http://www.how-to-meditate.org/breathing-meditations.htm/ (this site is mostly about buddhism, but the page may seem helpful to you) http://www.wikihow.com/Meditate (wikiHow isn’t the most reliable website, but it can definitely give you the basics) http://www.pickthebrain.com/blog/4-reasons-you-should-meditate-and-how-to-get-started/ (this site even let’s us know that when it comes to meditating, religion/philosophy isn’t exactly important) http://health.howstuffworks.com/wellness/stress-management/how-to-get-started-with-meditatio n.htm (a great site altogether) I found these sites with ease. Just google ‘meditation’ or ‘how to meditate’ in order to find

what you are looking for. But, I must say, I know from experience that some might think you need to follow a very direct set of instructions in order to meditate correctly. In all honesty, doing some breathing exercises, maybe a counting 1-inhale 2-exhale 3-inhale 4-exhale exercise, can definitely constitute for meditating. Meditating is about becoming calm and having a sense of peace, but also alertness (and not the jittery alertness you can get from coffee). Listening to some soothing music, which you can find anywhere on youtube simply by searching ‘soft music’ or ‘meditation music,’ can also help greatly. I recommend doing some reading on brainwave entertainment.
Steven asks…
How effective is hypnosis? ? I think I’ve been hypnotised at least once. I was listening to a meditation podcast off iTunes to relax myself, and afterwards I felt completely at peace with myself. I lost sense of time or extreme emotion and was stuck in happiness. I went to get something to eat and there was a calm voice telling me what to do. Unfortunately this only lasted for about half an hour before I returned to a state of irriation and tiredness. I was rather sure I’d been hypnotised in some way or another. What other forms of hypnosis are there?
answers: It depends on the person, whether they’re skeptical of the process and their beliefs about it all. If individuals doubt it they tend to be harder to put under.
