HELICOPTER RESCUE: A VIDEOLARYNGOSCOPE DONATED FOR AW 139

Astate-of-the-art portable videolaryngoscope for the Helicopter Rescue Unit in Como. The equipment was donated by the non-profit Fondazione Pro Elisoccorso - Servizio 118 and will be placed on the AW 139 aircraft stationed at the Hems - Helicopter Emergency Medical Service base in Villa Guardia (CO). The VIDEOLARYNGOSCOPE is a medical device that facilitates the tracheal intubation maneuver, even in situations where such intervention is particularly complex. Through highly effective visual control, this instrument increases the chances of successful intubation even in conditions of altered oral cavity anatomy, such as, for example, following severe facial trauma or for malformations. The value of the instrumentation is about 10,000 euros. The donation was made possible thanks to the book "Missione Paziente - Foundation and Development of Elisoccorso in Lombardy," written by journalists Francesca Indraccolo and Francesca Guido and published by Pernice Editori of Bergamo on commission from the Foundation. The handover ceremony was held in the hangar of the Base in the presence of Marco Paiella, head of Aat 118 in Como, Cesare Cardani, president of the Fondazione Pro Elisoccorso, board members Massimo Solbiati, Antonio Codecasa, Federico Mantero, Stefano Bulgarelli, nursing coordinator of the Como Aat, Dr. Francesca Di Mola, helicopter doctor, and journalists Francesca Guido and Francesca Indraccolo. The book, "Mission Patient," recounts the organizational aspects of the system that defines Como Helicopter Rescue and the main projects developed over the years: from the use of the winch to hovering, from night flying to the implementation of the latest technologies that have enabled the expansion of mission types after sunset and in inaccessible places. The book also features a section on how helicopters are used in the transport of Covid-19 patients, in particular from the Como Base. The book is currently available for purchase on the online shop of the publisher, SUPER Edizioni - Pernice Editori S.r.l., at the link shop.pernice.com/product/mission-patient/ and is distributed in several bookstores in the Lombardy region.
