IN PARTNERSHIP WITH

2022 Vendor DAWSON STUD

BY KRISTEN MANNING

In operation since 2013 (taking over from Evergreen Lodge), Dawson Stud has been set up and is run with meticulous care by Graham Daws.

A wonderful contributor, along with his late wife Chrissie, to the Western Australian racing and breeding scene for decades, the Daws’ stood the outstanding stallion Bletchley Park; for years breeding classy performers. Magic Millions looks forward to presenting their 2022 draft, having a chat with Graham in the lead-up to the sale...

How would you describe your 2022 Magic draft?

The 22 strong draft are a more even lot at this stage than we have presented in previous years. They show good bone and are mature types with flowing movement.

Which horse in your draft looks the best chance to win a Magic Millions 2YO Classic or 3YO Trophy?

Not easy to single one out but maybe Lot 104, a very strong and well proportioned colt by Bondi out of Choican.

What are some recent highlights for horses reared at your farm?

Some of the recent winners bred by Dawson Stud are Kissonallforcheeks (the RJ Peters Stakes-Gr.3, 1500m and dual Listed winner who was such a brave close-up third in the Kingston Town Stakes-Gr.1, 1800m in early December), Apple Schnapps (a prolific recent city winner) and the exciting Hong Kong galloper Sight Success who has been in flying form of late. What puts the magic into Magic Millions races and sales for you?

Clearly for me it’s the people; their knowledge, their professional conduct and their good sense of humour; all things that make the magic. What’s something your brain tries to make you do and you have to will yourself to do it?

Well 2021 has been the most terrible time for all and whilst my brain wants to uphold exercise and health, the lack of energy and will remains a major challenge! What is something everyone looks stupid doing?

Most definitely those silent discos, everyone totally out of sync with others, but who cares, everyone has a good time!

Kiss On All For Cheeks
