Magnificat High School, a Catholic girls’ college preparatory high school founded and sponsored by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, calls young women to live Mary’s Magnificat in the world.

Mission We educate young women holistically to learn, lead and serve in the spirit of Mary’s Magnificat.

A Note from the President In an ever-changing world, Magnificat attends to the holistic development of each of our young women. Our expansive curricular and co-curricular programs prepare each girl for success in college and life. Our educational environment promotes academic excellence and a love of learning. Our Mission contours the entire experience for our young women in a context of values and faith formation that permeates their holistic education. This Mission has touched innumerable families throughout the 62 years of our heritage. The families of our 12,000 alumnae reflect the prophetic promise of Mary’s Magnificat: “All generations will call me blessed.” The ongoing support of so many alumnae is a rich blessing for Magnificat. With the initiative and support of our Board of Directors, plans are underway that will enhance our physical spaces in ways that will forward our academic and co-curricular programs to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving world. Our dedicated faculty and staff involve our students in dynamic learning experiences that call forth their gifts and talents, spark their imaginations, build their confidence and hone their skills for life-long learning. Magnificat is truly a community of effective caring for each student in an environment that bespeaks the heart of the school name and prayer, the Magnificat. In the tradition of all generations, joy and praise flow from the grateful hearts and courageous spirits of our students and everyone in the Magnificat community. In the spirit of Mary’s Magnificat, MOIRA CLARK ’77 President

Counseling Services

Magnificat has five full-time, licensed school and college counselors as well as a full-time school psychologist. Students work with these professionals weekly beginning their freshman year. The Counseling Department uses a curriculum based on the American School Counseling Association’s three

domains: academic, personal/social, and college/career. This comprehensive program allows counselors to serve students holistically. As part of the academic domain, students also receive test-taking strategies for the SAT and ACT. College planning is further customized through Naviance, an internet-based tool used to identify students’ strengths, anticipated majors and career paths, and prospective colleges. The unique relationship that exists between Magnificat’s counselors and students culminates in a smooth transition from high school to college.

Grading:

The purpose of grade reporting is to communicate with parents and students about the mastery of specific learning goals. Grades reflect how well students are progressing toward established learning goals in each course, areas of outstanding performance and areas for potential growth. Grades are issued at the end of each semester, in January and June, and serve as a point of reflection and dialogue for students and parents.
