MAGNIFICAT PERFORMING ARTS
From the President
Dear Friends of Magnificat:
Welcome to the 2021 Dance Concert! Tonight, you will witness another example of the Magnificat community’s resilience as the members of the Magnificat High School Dance Team and the Magnificat Dance Training Company triumphantly (and safely) return to the stage in the Magnificat Center for the Performing Arts. As you know, the 2020-2021 school year has been one of challenge, but it has also been a year that showed our students the power of creativity and determination. Magnificat’s dancers adapted to the ever-changing COVID landscape in many ways from a new audition process last spring and employing safety protocols in the dance studio to performing at competitions with limited audiences and competing at Nationals by video as opposed to in person. Their flexibility in the face of uncertainty is admirable. You will notice that a number of the dances were choreographed by students themselves. Their talent, creativity, and leadership are evident in these performances as they extend their dance training. Thank you for your support of the Dance program and the Performing Arts at Magnificat. Enjoy the show! In the Spirit of Mary’s Magnificat,
Moira Clark ’77 President
From the Director of Dance
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:13 Perspective is everything. The things in life that make us tick, that get under our skin, or that make our spirits soar add vibrant emotion to our lives…or not. It’s all in the perspective. Like every other year, our program begins with a theme; a thought that helps us appreciate the opportunity, persevere through the challenges, find energy in the exhaustion, joy in the blessings and humility in the successes. Our theme drives our intent. And our perspective changes everything. This season, we adopted the theme Bloom. When we started in June, the uncertainty of the season even happening amidst the pandemic was overwhelming. We quickly learned that we might not know what tomorrow holds, but we know who holds tomorrow. We planted that uncertainty in the hands of God, our Father, from whom all blessings flow. Our hope was the seed, rooted in faith, and nourished by resilience, gratitude, joy, and cherishing every moment as if it were our last. Sometimes, in order to become exactly who God intended you to be, you have to grow in ways you’ve never imagined. This season we placed seeds in places that ached the most, and learned to accept that what comes next may not be easy, but it will be worth it. Dancers, I pray that wherever life plants you – lean into your growth and trust God’s path set before you. This year you learned to weather the storm. You learned that you need the light and the dark in order to bloom. You are the flowers that have come from this rain. I am beyond inspired by your resilience and beauty. You are God’s proof of His beautiful handiwork that no one could fathom – beginning to end. As you are entertained by compelling artistry and athleticism tonight, may your heart be filled with the hope of a seedling, and the faith of a blossom. Thank you for your continued support of the entire Performing Arts Department at Magnificat. God’s richest blessings, Jill Haller Director of Dance

KAYLA BUCCI: Kayla is a four-year member and a senior captain of the Magnificat varsity dance team. She is extremely honored and grateful to have spent the past four years growing as both a person and dancer on MHSDT. She has loved every second, from working with amazing choreographers to long days of nationals preparation. She began dancing at the age of three and has not stopped since. Kayla’s passion for dance and performance led her to participate as a cast member in Magnificat’s productions of Cats, Footloose, and Matilda, the Musical. This year she had the unique opportunity to showcase choreography and perform in the Quarantine Cabaret, and she also had the amazing opportunity to choreograph her solo and a debut piece in “Bloom.” Kayla would like to thank Mrs. Haller, Mrs. Summers, Miss Tori, Miss Paige, and Miss Colleen for their constant support, guidance, and encouragement. She would also like to thank Mrs. Papa, Mr. Van Neil, Mr. Hnat, and Lauryn Papa for all of their dedication to the Performing Arts Department. Also, a special thanks goes to her incredibly supportive parents and the rest of her family for attending every recital, competition, show, and always being there for her no matter what. Finally, Kayla would like to express gratitude for her MHSDT sisters past and present that have always inspired her and loved her. Kayla would especially like to thank her team for making her senior year so special and memorable, even with the given circumstances. Kayla will greatly miss the Magnificat performing arts family next year as she continues her studies at the University of Notre Dame, and they will forever hold a special place in her heart. SHEKINAH CRAWFORD: Shekinah was a member of the first ever MDTC team last year and she is so glad to be able to continue with the team in her senior year. Prior to joining the team, she has been involved in every dance concert since her freshman year with her self-choreographed solos. In addition to this, Shekinah is one of the gymnastics team captains, as well as a Peace and Justice, Equity group, and French Club leader. Shekinah started her dancing career as a liturgical dancer in her church at the age of four and plans on continuing this throughout and after college. She plans on attending Baldwin Wallace University for Political Science in the fall. Shekinah would like to give a special thank you to her coach, Miss Paige St. John, for all the love and support she gives to her and her teammates. Shekinah would also like to thank her teammates, who have become more than just teammates to her, for every moment they have spent together and for making this one of the best parts of her final year here at Magnificat. Shekinah would like to take this time to honor the crew and all of the work they do backstage to make the dance concert such an

amazing production. Shekinah would like to acknowledge Katie Lawlor for all the work she does backstage with the crew and for being one of her best friends both inside and outside of school. Finally, Shekinah would like to dedicate her last moments on stage to her parents Prince and Natasha Crawford and her brother John who have always gone out of their way to support her in everything she has done and for being at every event that she has been a part of throughout her life. KATE CRISAFI: Kate has been a part of the Magnificat Dance Team for the past three years. Kate is not only a member of NHS, but has also been an active representative in school clubs like Outreach, Ambassadors, Students in Medicine, Campus Ministry, and also took action to establish her own club: Magnificat Students for Life. Kate has been dancing since she was 3 years old, and is grateful to be a part of the dance team as it has shown her opportunities to work harder, and also has given her friendships for a lifetime. In the fall, Kate will attend the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and is going in undecided. Kate would like to thank her coaches: Mrs. Jill Haller, Mrs. Kim Summers, Mrs. Tori Muellauer McKinney, and Ms. Paige St. John for being such role models to her. She would like to thank them for teaching her dedication, perseverance and allowing her to feel supported and inspired even when there is doubt. Kate would also like to thank all of her teammates for being so fun, and for being genuine people she could call her friends. Lastly, Kate wants to say thank you to her parents, for being the most loving, and for encouraging her to bloom. ANNA CURTIS: Anna has been a part of the Magnificat Dance Team for three years and is currently one of the Varsity Captains. In addition to being a member of the Varsity Dance Team, Anna has been an active member in Outreach, the Ambassador Leadership Team, National Honors Society, and La Société Honoraire de Français. In the fall, Anna plans to further her education at Miami University where she will be studying kinesiology on the Physical Therapy track. Anna found her love for dance at the age of 3 at The Dance Centre by Heidi Glynias. She danced there for 12 years, joining the competition team in the second grade. She would like to thank Heidi Glynias and all the amazing teachers there who helped her to grow into the dancer she is now, and she knows that she could not be at the place she is now if it weren’t for them. As a sophomore at Magnificat High School, Anna joined the Magnificat Dance Team and has enjoyed every second since! Anna would like to thank her mom, Mary Kay, dad, Henry, brothers, Henry and Will, and sister, Abby, for showing constant support throughout her 15 years of dancing. She would also like to thank her tremendous coaches,

Mrs. Haller, Mrs. Summers, Paige St. John, Tori McKinney, Colleen Haddad, Mrs. Papa, and Lauryn Papa for being there for her every day over the past three years. Anna would like to thank Cathi Feeny, Douglas Burkhardt, Sean Howe, Payton St. John, Alexandra Grabowski, and so many more choreographers who inspired her and helped her to find a deeper love for dance. Lastly, Anna would like to thank all of her teammates. The bond she has created with her sisters on the team is one that she will never forget! LAUREN ELLIS: Lauren is so excited to participate in her third and final dance concert. This is her second year on MDTC and she’s so thankful that dance concert was a possibility this year. Lauren has also worked on costume crew since her freshman year for shows like CATS, The Diary of Anne Frank, Footloose, Our Town, Sense & Sensibility, and the annual dance concert. She was a costumer’s assistant for Magnificat’s production of Matilda, the Musical. She also participated in groups like show choir, music ministry, Outreach, and NHS. Although she is deeply sad that she will no longer have a musical debut in Legally Blonde, she is happy that she still has the opportunity to dance. This fall she plans to attend the University of Cincinnati and major in fashion design. She’d like to thank Mrs. Papa for teaching her how to sew and for helping her realize her desired career in life. She would also like to thank Coach Paige St. John for taking a chance on her junior year and for helping her become a stronger and more confident dancer. She is so thankful for all the friendships and lasting memories that she has created because of the Performing Arts Department. ELLERIE HEINZMANN: Ellerie has been a member of MDTC for the past two years. She has appreciated the many opportunities that MDTC has offered her and also allowed her to be a multi-sport athlete in cross country and track. She has been dancing since she was seven years old, and her love for dance has only grown since she joined the Magnificat dance family. Next year, she will continue her education at Bellarmine University where she will study biology and will also be a member of the cross country and track teams. Ellerie would like to thank her parents, teammates, Miss Paige St. John who is the most supportive coach, Mrs. Kim Summers who reinspired Ellerie’s love for dance, and Mrs. Jill Haller who is a dedicated leader, for supporting her through her dance journey. She would also like to thank her sisters who danced with her through the first six years of her journey.

ISABELLA JONKE: Isabella has been a part of the Magnificat High School Dance Team for four years now and is currently Junior Varsity Captain. In addition to being a part of the dance team, Isabella is president of International Pen Pals, a student leader for Ambassadors, an active member of Student Outreach, Campus ministry, and a part of other clubs on campus. Isabella has been in training for dance since the age of three starting at Metta Rose’s Dance Academy. Isabella is grateful and appreciative of the opportunities Magnificat and Dance Team have given her and she will continue to live through Mary’s Magnificat as she heads to her next chapter in life. KATIE LAWLOR: Katie is incredibly excited to return as a crew member for Bloom, her final production at Magnificat. She has spent all four years at Magnificat as part of costume crew for various shows–including, but not limited to–Cats, Footloose, the Diary of Anne Frank, and Our Town. Katie most recently worked as Costumer’s Assistant for Matilda, the Musical in fall of her junior year; while she is saddened that this year’s musical did not work out, she is still so grateful for the Performing Arts staff who worked tirelessly to make Dance Concert possible. She would like to thank Mrs. Papa and past Costumer’s Assistants for teaching her all things relating to costume design and sewing, her parents and brothers for their continued love and support for all of her artistic endeavors, and the wonderful friends she’s made throughout her four years here. She would like to give a special thanks to Anna Hatgas, who so kindly reminded her of the introductory crew meeting in the fall of freshman year after she had missed the advisory announcement. Without her reminder, Katie would have most certainly missed out on an incredible four years of cherished memories and lasting friendships. While the ending of this chapter is bittersweet for her, Katie is looking forward to what the future has in store as she begins at the University of Dayton this fall.
Senior Spotlight HALLE MCLAUGHLIN: Hallie joined Magnificat Dance Training Company this year, it was one of the best decisions she has made at her time at Magnificat. She is excited to perform in her first dance concert. She is incredibly thankful for this opportunity to dance and be on this team.
