Magnificat High School, a girls’ Catholic, college-preparatory high school founded and sponsored by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary, calls young women to live Mary’s Magnificat in the world. Mission: We educate young women holistically to learn, lead, and serve in the spirit of Mary’s Magnificat.
About Magnificat Summer Programs • All summer programs are half-days. • Tuition $150 per half-day camp; Clinics $75, with the exception of Golf, which is $150. A 10% discount will be offered to families with more than one camper.

Magnificamp Week 1: June 8-12, 2020 Grades 1-3 Morning (8:30 - 11:30 a.m.) (NEW!) Cooking for Kids (Supply Fee $25) In small groups for maximum supervision, we’ll learn the essentials of cooking and nutrition. What’s on the menu? Homemade pasta, bread, decorated no-bake cupcakes, frozen fruit pops, edible artwork, and so much more! It’s a great way to gain the know-how, confidence, and inspiration to take initiative at home. It’s going to be a sweet and savory summer! (Ingredients include but are not limited to: butter, eggs, flour, and sugar.)
(NEW!) Flower Power (Supply Fee $10) Experience true flower power with hands-on science and flora-inspired crafts! Discover the buzz about plants, pollinators, and the amazing science behind what makes a garden grow. Learn the fascinating interacting elements of a garden’s ecosystem and what healthy plants need. Get hands-on experience caring for local fruits, vegetables, and herbs. Finally, create your own take-home garden complete with creative decorations!

Attention, aspiring bakers and pastry chefs! Are you ready for a week-long holiday baking extravaganza? Each day, bakers will make desserts and bake delicious treats from our favorite holidays including Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Fourth of July, and Thanksgiving. Bring your appetite and creativity, and you will leave with a full stomach and basic baking skills! (Ingredients include but are not limited to; butter, eggs, flour, and sugar.)

Lemonade Day Camp
Indulge an appetite for cooking and “Be a Magnifi-Chef!” Young chefs will discover the ins and outs of cooking and baking by learning new skills each day. In our kitchen, young chefs will create delicious food and explore new recipes that they can recreate at home. Learn how to make and create new and old culinary favorites as we immerse young chefs in the wonderful world of cooking. (Ingredients include but are not limited to: butter, eggs, flour, and sugar.)
Lemonade Day Camp is a young entrepreneur’s dream! In a small team setting, our entrepreneurs will create a lemonade stand, determining what product(s) to sell, how to price, market, and sell the product(s), how to realize a profit, and how to distribute the profit to teammates and a charity of choice. The Lemonade Stand will be open for business on the fourth day of camp, so plan to stop by for some icy refreshment. This camp is based on the model created by National Lemonade Day.
SEW Much Fun! (Supply Fee $10)
Grades 7-8
Learning to sew is both fun and incredibly useful! Participants create projects that include using a sewing machine, sewing patterns and designs, and learning basic hand-stitching. Budding seamstresses will be bursting at the seams to show off their sewing knowledge and projects which include a pillow, stuffed animal or doll, and a tote bag. Participants have SEW Much Fun!
Afternoon (12:00 - 3:00 p.m.): (NEW!) Musical Theater Camp This one-week camp provides an exciting opportunity for participants to explore the world of musical theater! Participants will develop their performance style as they explore the creative process of preparing for a musical through the implementation of improvisation, theater games, vocal coaching, and dance techniques. Participants will use the skills they’ve learned at camp to perform some of Broadway’s greatest hits for friends and family in the Magnificat Performing Arts Center on the last day of camp!

Each day focuses on a new activity geared toward science, technology, engineering, and math. Participants will be engaged in summer science fun as they solve real-world problems, explore through scavenger hunts, and discover math through arts and crafts.

Camp Move is where physical activity meets fun, as participants engage in a variety of high-energy games, team-building activities, modified sports, recreational activities, and so much more! From “Just Dance” to bocce ball, we are always on the go! Whether we are diving deep into new skills or playing classic backyard games, this active group has something for everyone.

Magnificamp Week 3: June 22-26, 2020 Grades 1-3 Morning (8:30 - 11:30 a.m.) Girls Rock Math Math can be so much fun! Learn how by combining art, jewelry-making, and dance with numeracy. Participants will design beaded bracelet patterns, make colorful charts, and learn about simple budgets. This dynamic week of numbers, games, and creativity utilizes the nationally-recognized “Count Me In” program designed especially for girls.
(NEW!) Unicorn Magic (Supply Fee $15) Discover the enchanted world of unicorns through imaginative stories, songs, and mixed-media crafts. Delight in making unicorn crowns, magic wands, and other fabulous accessories to show off at home. Best of all, create and care for your very own snuggly unicorn! Don’t forget our unicorn cupcake party to top off a truly magical week.
Afternoon (12:00 - 3:00 p.m.) (NEW!) Animal Kingdom (Supply Fee $10) Welcome to Kingdom Animalia, where we delight in discoveries about things like the way a squirrel gathers nuts or how an ant carries heavy food crumbs to the colony. Participants will learn about different species, observe and discuss animals and behavior, and have fun with animal-themed games, songs, and crafts. It’ll be a roaringly fun experience for animal lovers and future zoologists!

Full STEM Ahead! (Supply Fee $10)
Aspiring actors, writers, and directors will spend their week learning the nuts and bolts of what it takes to create a television show. From scriptwriting to rehearsing lines, creating and building sets to filming and editing techniques, participants develop a television show to share with family and friends by week’s end!
In our STEM camp, participants are presented with age-appropriate STEM challenges that promote collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity. Each day, participants engage in experiments centered around science, technology, engineering, and math. They will build, create, and explore fun topics while learning more about the science world!

Beach Fun (Supply Fee $15) Aloha, beachgoers! Get ready to stick your toes in the sand and dive into a week of fun in the sun. Nothing says “beach day” like flying homemade kites, painting shells, and having fun in the sun. Make a splash tie-dying your own beach bags and making sandy decorations to bring home. A week of beach fun is sure to be a blast, so don’t forget your sunscreen!
Afternoon (12:00 - 3:00 p.m.) Calling All Wizards! (Supply Fee $10) Welcome to Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s spellbinding world of magic wands and fantastic beasts. Prepare for full immersion into Potter-mania including wand-making, charms, and spell-writing. Create and care for your own fantastic beasts such as dragons and pygmy
(NEW!) Theater Performance 101 This camp is designed to introduce participants to the elements of theater performance through movement, vocal exercises, improvisational games, monologues, script work and character study. Participants will use their new skills as they prepare to perform an actual theater script on the last day of camp. It’s an ‘All Play’ concept!

Enrichment
Expand your academic horizons. Collaborate with peers and instructors. Make new friends. ENRICH your summer! Experience what life is like as a Magnificat student by participating in our summer Enrichment Program, specially designed for girls entering grades 7 and 8. Each day, participants will explore three different academic subjects in an interactive learning environment. Each Enrichment day will end with a special event or presenter that encourages girls to interact and build positive relationships.

For girls entering grades 7-8 Week 1: June 8-12, 2020: The ABCs of Enrichment ¡Vámonos! Discover the Spanish-speaking world with Magnificat. Through interactive activities, music, and games, participants will learn basic Spanish while exploring the beauty of Spanish culture.
Lights! Curtain! ACTION! In this course, you will find many interesting “behind the scenes” whats and hows that
theatrical designers use to transport their audiences to any place in the world, or even out of this world. Meet and learn from the professional directors and designers who work at Magnificat while creating the kind of theater experience of which you can be proud.
World of Watercolor Artists will experiment with watercolor, creating their own sugar skulls. They will learn different techniques throughout the week.
Week 2: June 15-19, 2020: Puzzles Motogo Motogo builds confidence by providing a hands-on introduction to real-world problem solving and critical
thinking through the tangible avenue of motorcycle maintenance. In this intro class, students will learn basic hands-on tool skills used in mechanical engineering to work on vintage 70s Honda motorcycles.
Programming FUNdamentals Participants will learn about programming concepts and develop computational
thinking skills through block-based coding. By the end of the week, participants will have created their own interactive games and stories to share.
Crazy for Collage Artists will learn about collaging techniques and, by the end of the week, they will have created a unique piece of art from recycled materials.
Week 3: June 22-26, 2020: Nature through the Lens of the Arts & Sciences Chemistry Participants will learn lab safety and data collection skills as they delve into the wonderful world of chemistry! They will explore the scientific concepts through experiments with water and gum, and they will learn how to predict chemical reactions based on color in this exciting class!
Clayworks Explore the world of clay, kilns, and glaze. In this offering, participants will embark on a nature hike to inspire the own handmade flower pots and sculpture, which will be glazed and fired in a kiln at 2,000 degrees!
Art Nature will be the inspiration for this week, as artists will find their subjects outdoors and use chalk as their medium for creating a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Enrichment Weekly Enrichment Special Topics Week 1: June 8-12, 2020: Baking/Entrepreneurship Pastry chef Ann LoParo ’95, of Annie’s Signature Sweets, will share her road to entrepreneurship and demonstrate some delicious treats that participants can try at home. Annie teaches baking classes and caters desserts for events in Cleveland and is a member of the Magnificat High School Class of 1995.
Week 2: June 15-19, 2020: Yoga/Women in Business 3 Sisters Yoga, Cultivate Yoga, and Katie Kurtz ’03 of Her Turn Co., will develop girls’ understanding of the benefits of yoga through topics such as HIIT/power yoga, yoga for athletes, and meditation techniques. Students will also learn about female entrepreneurship from the women who started these local businesses.
Week 3: June 22-26, 2020: Getting in Touch with Nature Participants will use the outdoors as their classroom (including Magnificat’s Hoop House garden) as their eyes are opened to the world around them and they learn how to respect and care for all living things. They’ll have fun and be inspired to become environmentally responsible while learning about plants, pollinators, flowers, and herbs.

For girls entering grade 8 High School Placement Test Administration Thursday, June 25 12:00 - 3:00 p.m
Rising 8th graders enrolled in Enrichment Camp are invited to take the HSPT on Thursday, June 25 from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. There is no cost to take the HSPT, but registration is required by May 22, 2020.
Prepare for the High School Placement Test with Seeley Test Pros All students who apply to Catholic high schools must take the High School Placement Test (HSPT).
• Seeley Test Pros will provide rising 8th grade girls with the opportunity to gain familiarity with all areas of the test, including verbal skills, quantitative skills, reading, mathematics, and language. • Participants will review the relevant content and strategies necessary for each section of the test through instruction and practice. • Participants will increase their familiarity and confidence with the test to maximize their performance.
• Participants will take an official HSPT during the final session. Families will receive an official report from this HSPT. • Participants will receive a 464-page HSPT textbook that includes review materials and two additional practice tests.

Join Us for Lunch and a Tour of Magnificat! Each Thursday (June 11, 18, and 25), rising 7th and 8th graders enrolled in Enrichment Camp are invited for lunch and a tour of Magnificat. Tours begin in the Performing Arts Center lobby at 10:45 a.m.; lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. in the Marian Commons. There is no cost; however, registration is required.

Nothing but Net! Coach Gallagher and his team will provide 5th and 6th graders with a basic foundation through skill instruction and player development. Through drills and live play, campers will learn the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, and defense.
Stick Power! Coach Fedorova and her staff will teach girls entering grades 5-9 fundamental field hockey skills, including offensive and defensive stick skills, small game play, basic strategies, and rules of the game.

Crash the Boards! This 7th and 8th grade camp is designed to challenge campers’ skill level and give them the opportunity to develop increased abilities in all areas of the game. 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Grades 1-4 Hoop It Up! This clinic is designed for young girls interested in learning about the sport. Coach Gallagher and his staff will teach the very basics and fundamentals of the game through fun games, drills, and activities.

Pace Yourself! This camp is for girls in grades 5-9 who have an interest in middle or long-distance running. Coach Troyan and his team will provide high-quality training and racing insights to help spark participants’ growth, physically and mentally. Participants will also learn valuable information on the subjects of nutrition, injury prevention, racing technique, and training knowledge.

Gina Battistone - Head Varsity Coach 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Grades 6-9 Fore! Coaches and student athletes will work with participants—no matter what experience level—to develop and improve their skills, from driving and irons, to chipping and putting. The mental aspect of the game, and rules and course management will also be covered.

Focusing on stroke techniques, serving, footwork, and point play, Coach Girgash and her staff will share their love for the game!

Can you dig it? Calling all 5th and 6th graders! This volleyball camp for 5-6th graders focuses on skills and game fundamentals, and you will be introduced to the positions on the court. Coach Green and her staff will share all aspects of the game with you, whether you’re a beginner or more experienced player.
12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Grades 7-8 Match point! This camp’s emphasis will be on the different systems of play at the 7th and 8th grade level. Coach Green and her staff will focus on individual skill development, teaching fundamental techniques through competitive drills, games, and live sets.
4:00 - 5:30 p.m. Grades 1-4 Jump, set, spike! This clinic is designed for young girls interested in learning about volleyball. Coach Green and her staff will teach the very basics of the game through fun games, drills, and activities.
