Check out what happened at the launch of Jacky’s latest book!

It was the JW event of the year – Jack y’s book launch for her latest story, Diamond ! Alo ng with 500 JW fans, the JW Mag team made o ur way into the rather grand Bloomsbury T heatr e, where we took our seats and waited for Jacky to appear… After a brilliant talk by Nick about how he became an artist and how to draw just like him, J acky took to the stage to reveal her Diamond secre ts – here are our favourite ones… Jacky originally thought Diamond would be a short book – only six chapters long! However, Jacky admitted she can “be a bit long-winded” and the book ended up being over 350 pages – just as long as the Hetty Feather books! Jacky told us that there were plans for a stage show of Hetty Feather – and that it would be staged at Jacky’s local theatre in Kingston-upon-T hames before touring across the country. We can’t wait! When Jacky was asked whether Diamond would be made into a f ilm or T V show, she revealed that there might be something in the pipeline, but that she couldn’t say anything more as she’d been sworn to secrecy! So exciting! Jacky had lunch at a posh restaurant in London to celebrate the launch of Diamond —– and spotted lots of celebrities while she was there! Nick also made a very special portrait of Hetty in her ringmaster costume. Jacky hasn’t bought any jewellery – yet! She said, “It’s tempting to treat myself to a diamond ring –— but if I do, it won’t be a huge rock like my other rings!”

ly inspirational! I also found Mae: Jacky’s talk was real in as I like d rawing, especially g i n t s e r t e i n l y l a e r l k t a ’ s k c Ni ick want to be an artist like N his style. When I grow up, I riter like Jacky! and Lottie wants to be a w lk was really interesting – Lottie: I thought Jacky’s ta il about writing her books, she went into lots of deta r books and Diamond. She especially the Hetty Feathe keys, which I didn’t know, also revealed she liked mon g about the monkey family and that she enjoyed writin in Diamond !

Mae designed her own special JW t-shirt!

Elinor and Alys

Elinor: I really enjoyed the question and answer session at the end – it was really nice of Jacky to answer everyone’s questions. My favourite books of Jacky’s are Hetty Feather and Emerald Star, so I was really excited to get hold of Diamond –—I’ve had it pre-ordered since the summer holidays! Alys: I thought Jacky’s talk was really interesting –— I can’t wait to start reading Diamond. My favourite JW book so far is Double Act, but I think Diamond is going to be really good!

Freya Erin I loved the part of the talk where Jacky told us how she wrote her books, and the part of Nick’s talk where he told us how to draw expressions was great! I think I’m going to follow his tips and start drawing dots for eyes!

Jacky’s talk was really interesting, although I was surprised when she said she’s almost written 100 books –— I thought she’d already written over 100! My favourite book of Jacky’s is Cookie. I think it’s really inspiring and I really like Beauty. She seems like she’d be a good friend!

Step aside dogs, the cats are taking over at Battersea!

It was love at f irst sight when I saw my Battersea cats, Jacob and Lily. T hey're a beautiful grey and white colour and look like brother and sister. Jacob is gentle and protective while Lily is a harum scarum little sweetheart. Jacob loves to be brushed every morning and Lily snuggles beside me every night. No wonder the cats are taking over Battersea – my two have certainly taken over my heart.

All About Battersea Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has been open since the days of Hetty Feather! It was set up in 1860 by Mrs Mary Tealby, and known as ‘T he Temporary Home for Lost and Starving Dogs’. I adore my f luffy friend, Queenie. Follow our advice to care for your cat.
