his month sees the launch of our 3rd annual creative style award. Turn to pages 14 and 15 to see just how creative the selected salons have been. You can also like the styles on the mags4dorset Facebook page. Also in this issue, we have an interview with Celia Sawyer, the local entrepreneur who sent an image of herself to Channel 4 with a suggestion that she should become one of the presenters on ‘Four Rooms’. See what she has to say about achieving success. Our new fashion writer, Katie Farley, gives a few hints on how to be sassy using vintage styles and local author Della Galton woos us with one of her fat free recipes following the release of her and Peter Jones’ successful new book, ‘How to Eat Loads and Stay Slim.’ Talking of success, I went to a Waggy Tails dog show in Ferndown last month. It was a fab event and the Waggiest Tail class was something special. The dogs went ballistic, wagging their tails like mad. Out came the video cam and the result is a funny YouTube video. Wally was the winner and what a crowd pleaser he was. You really must watch the video, which is also on our website www.

The guild visits the castle Mr David Hopkins was able to give interesting information about Highcliffe Castle to North East Forest Trefoil Guild. The castle was built in 1830, using medieval stonework from France. The furniture was also French, and is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The family sold the castle in 1950 and after several different owners, is now overseen by Christchurch Council and English Heritage, aided by lottery money. Plans are being made for the guild members to visit the castle later in the summer. Six members attended the ‘Tea on the Quay’ event held by Poole Trefoil Guild.
Noticeable changes on horizon at Bournemouth’s Children’s Centres
Three year contracts to operate Bournemouth’s eight Children’s Centres have been announced following a rigorous tendering process. They will commence on 2 September 2013. • Barnardo’s will manage Queen’s Park, Townsend, Stokewood and Winton Children’s Centres. • The Children’s Society will manage Boscombe, Kingsleigh and Kinson and West Howe Children’s Centres. • The YMCA will manage Pokesdown and Southbourne Children’s Centres. The centres provide a range of services and support for families with children under five-years-old. Bournemouth Borough Council has committed £5.5 million of funding to ensure high quality support will be continued for local families over the next three years. Further information on Children’s Centres within Bournemouth can be found at: www.bournemouth.gov.uk/ childrenscentres

Horsing around
ournemouth’s Castlepoint Shopping Park has formally re-opened a traditional bridleway that follows the eastern boundary of the 41 acre complex, after a special surface was laid to make the path more comfortable for riders. Peter Matthews, General Manager at Castlepoint, was the first to inspect the new surface by taking his own horse Jim for a test ride.
Thinus Delport (centre)
Peter and Jim
“People are surprised that the bridleway has been frequently used by riders since the construction of Castlepoint,” said Peter Matthews. “We felt that as we are trying to encourage people to consider using greener transport to come shopping, why not make it more equestrian friendly.” He said daily patrols and security cameras will also check for manure on the route and it would be picked up and used in the landscaping.
Rugby inspiration
Former international rugby star Thinus Delport visited Bournemouth to help inspire local boys reach their full potential. The retired rugby union wing and fullback player spent a whole day at Harewood College, encouraging students to reach for the stars. Thinus led two assemblies, which shared with the students how success in any field requires the Olympic Values, especially of determination and courage, which are central to Harewood’s ethos. After the assemblies Thinus trained the school’s elite rugby squads. He also worked with many of the school’s other gifted and talented sports students, alongside coaches at AFC Bournemouth. Assistant headteacher of Harewood College, John Greetham, said: “We were delighted to welcome such a renowned, international sportsman to our college. “Thinus spent an incredible amount of time with all of our students and I know that every single one of them was inspired by his visit. “For the boys to hear first-hand the experiences of someone who has reached the very top of his chosen field was motivational for all of them.”

Their first ever Monkey Mobile, ape-tly named and sponsored by Westerly Dorchester, arrived at the park on 4 June. The brand new BMW 1 series will be used by the education team to spread the message further afield about the rescue and rehabilitation work at Monkey World and how everyone can help.

Prepare for compulsory microchipping
L
ocal Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Annette Brooke has joined forces with the Kennel Club to spread the word about the forthcoming compulsory microchipping regulation. Research, carried out by Petlog, the UK’s largest lost and found database for microchipped pets, which is managed by the Kennel Club, has found that almost half of all dog owners are unaware of the legislation, due to come in force in England in April 2016. More worrying, is the lack of understanding of how a microchip works, with more than an estimated 900,000 dog owners in the UK thinking that it acts as a GPS device.
23 too many! The laws on drink driving have been in existence since 1967 when the legal drink drive limit was introduced, as was the breathalyser. There really is no excuse for anyone to get behind the wheel of a car when they’ve had too much to drink.
Parkinson
Hutchinson
Annette Brooke MP
A microchip is about the size of a grain of rice. Each one has a unique number, which is identified when scanned and linked to information held on a database such as Petlog. Authorised users, eg vets and dog wardens, will scan a lost pet when it comes to them and contact the microchip’s database to find the owner’s details. Professor Steve Dean, Chairman of the Kennel Club, said: “We are grateful to Annette for giving her support and highlighting microchipping and the need to keep information on the microchip database up to date as an essential part of responsible dog ownership.”
It comes as a bit of a shock, therefore, to learn that Dorset Police arrested 23 people in the first week of its summer drink and drug drive campaign, of these, five were made after road traffic collisions. The other 18 followed stop checks on drivers. Drink drivers should be reported by calling police on 101. When a crime is in progress or life is at risk, dial 999. The drink and drug drive campaign ended at midnight on Sunday, 30 June.

Guilty verdicts in Reece James’ death case Three men have each been sentenced to 16 years’ imprisonment for the manslaughter of a 21-year-old Bournemouth man – with a fourth man due to be sentenced in July. Reece James, 21, was shot at his address in Bournemouth at the junction of Roumelia Lane and Sea Road in Boscombe in July last year. Kieron Kenroy Wellington, 30 and of no
fixed abode, and three London men – Wayne Stephenson, 34, Keifer Hutchinson, 23, and Jarome Parkinson, 25 were all found guilty of manslaughter. Wellington, Hutchinson and Stephenson received their sentences on 7 June and Parkinson will be sentenced on 5 July after a pre-sentence report has been prepared.
Hospital merger on the cards
Ferndown’s Mayor is John Lewis
The NHS Foundation Trust of the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals held a Board of Directors meeting on 14 June to discuss the proposed hospital merger of Poole Hospital with the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals. The Council of Governors is discussing remedies after receiving a detailed brief on the Competition Commission process, which could last through July and August. The Trust continues to work towards licensing of the merged trust in April 2014.
Cllr John Lewis was elected as mayor of Ferndown in May. An avid football and rugby supporter, Cllr Lewis has lived in Ferndown for seven years and been a councillor for two. He says he’s had a very busy start to his new role and is looking forward to representing the town throughout the year. His deputy is Cllr Steve Lugg.

Nightjar
Dorset Wildlife Trust is launching an online campaign to raise awareness and warn people of the harm that can be caused to wildlife by using mobile phone apps which mimic birdsong. Wardens on Brownsea Island have reported incidents of visitors using these mobile apps, which imitate the unusual call of the nightjar, to get a closer photograph. Tony Whitehead, Public Affairs Officer for RSPB in the South West said: “Repeatedly playing a recording of birdsong or calls to encourage a bird to respond in order to see it or photograph it can divert a territorial bird from other important duties, such as feeding its young. It is selfish and shows no respect to the bird. People should never use playback to attract a species during its breeding season.”
Driver dies after collision with school coach Sophie Crew, 23, from Wareham, was seriously injured in a collision with a school coach on the B3078 on Tuesday 11 June. She later died in hospital. Over 20 children were injured in the collision, nine of whom were taken to hospital for treatment, along with the coach driver who was not seriously injured. Tributes were paid to Sophie, a popular local girl and former Parkstone Grammar School pupil and university graduate who worked at Wessex Water.

4Dorset July 2013
Thanks to the Ferndown Rotary Club, four young people from Ferndown Upper have scooped prizes in a competition held amongst schools in East Dorset. Michaela Sibsey in Year 9 won the top prize of a Kindle Fire and an exchange visit with a school student in Dublin. The Rotary in Ireland organised a similar contest. Headteacher Alex Wills praised the students’ efforts saying, “I was delighted with how many of our students entered the competition, as education about local, national and global environmental issues has never been so important. The winners put in a huge effort as they had to either write an essay about an environmental issue or design a wildlife garden. But besides that they had to answer an extensive quiz covering a whole range of questions about the environment. I would like to thank our local Rotary Club, not only for organising this competition, but for the huge amount of support they give the school in a number of different ways.”
www.mags4dorset.co.uk
The school has an active Gardening Club (see picture of some of the leaders last year) and is always keen to hear from local people who have expertise and or resources to offer. Alex Wills added, “We appreciate the generous sponsorship of the competition by local businesses which will help to provide some new equipment for our students to use.” For more information or to visit the school, please contact the school office on 01202 871243 or email office@fernup. dorset.sch.uk

steps it up! The new Lifestyle Active Gym at Verwood Hub is open

t’s bang up to date with new technology and whilst doing your workout, you can watch TV, listen to music, surf the ‘net’, check your emails, check your heart rate and even challenge your mates, or yourself, to see how quickly you can complete the Tour de France, or another well known sporting event. If someone had told you this was all part of the gym package 10 years ago, you wouldn’t have believed them. But it’s all at your fingertips now. Going to the gym has never been so exciting. As well as all this, Lifestyle Active in Verwood offers a programme for people coming through GP referrals. General manager Jacqui Sainsbury
says, “We are pleased to have secured funding for GP referrals and have the equipment to back it up. There are stations for those with mobility problems - for example the Run Med rehab treadmill, funded by Awards for All.” It’s an impressive piece of equipment suitable for those with medical conditions such as cardio or diabetic problems. POPPs (Partnership for Older People Projects) has also supplied Lifestyle Active Gym with two Monark ergometer fitness testing bikes. Advanced GP referral instructor, Carly Howard said, “I will fitness test people and give
them individual programmes. As well as all the new equipment, members will also benefit from supervision in the gym at all times.” The large 50-station gym is complemented with a 10 bike spinning room plus spacious new changing rooms and showers. Is there anything missing? A holographic gym partner maybe - but I expect those will be available shortly.
Gym enthusiast won’t let osteoarthritis get in his way Peter Marsh from Verwood has been an avid follower of the Hub. He has a photographic record of the entire development to present day and made sure he was one of the first to record the opening of the new Lifestyle Active Gym. Not only that, he wanted to start using the equipment, some of which is designed for those with mobility problems. Although confined to a wheelchair for the last 11 years with osteoarthritis, Peter can still manage a workout on his upper body. Carly Howard, advanced GP referral instructor showed him how to use the equipment. Peter said, “I’ve really enjoyed myself. I make use of the Hub for many of the events and I now intend to come to gym on a regular basis.”

e briefed members on his manifesto and explained that he was rolling out the Community Speed Watch scheme. Home Watch members will be trained with hand held cameras and will work in teams with a PCSO to report motorists who break the speed limit; those who use a mobile phone whilst driving, and those who do not wear a seatbelt. The reports will generate letters to the offenders, a third repeat offence will generate a visit from the police. He also said he is increasing the number of volunteers in the police force by making it easier for them to go through the system. Improvements to the Ringmaster scheme are on his agenda and he wishes to incorporate social media, tweets and texts. He mentioned the controversial decision to switch off lampposts late at night in Dorset. He said residents had feared crime rates would go up in these areas, but statistics had shown that crime rates have dropped. One of his passions is 20mph speed limits. Although there have been less road accidents since 2010, there have been more deaths. His personal thoughts are that mobile phones are to blame, but he has no evidence to support this. A staggering statistic was that seven people died at the wheel last year due to medical incidents. He said this was really worrying and people ought to engage with their GP practices and make sure they are fit to drive. He is introducing a multi agency victims bureau, which will act as a one-stop shop for victims. This should be available in about nine months. He said that Dorset Police is the worst funded force in the country and if a further 10% budget reduction was implemented at the end of June, the cuts will have gone too deep. “If a police force is lean and good at taking cuts, why make it leaner?” he said. “I want a fairer slice of the pie.”

Best-selling author celebrates DOUBLE success How to Eat Loads and Stay Slim By Della Galton
Della Galton
Best-selling author, Della Galton, is celebrating the release of ‘How to Eat Loads and Stay Slim’ with co-author Peter Jones. To complement the book, Della, who lives locally, is treating 4Dorset readers to one of her tasty, but guiltless recipes. More can be found at www. howtoeatloadsandstayslim. com and the facebook page of the same name. Della is also about to launch her next novel in paperback, ‘Ice and a Slice’ and will be holding her book launch at the Red Lion, Church Street, Sturminster Marshall on 13 July from 11am-4pm. All welcome.
As I write, it is summer. Long may it last. It’s so amazing to be able to sit in the garden and feel the sun on my face and mess around pulling up stinging nettles (OK, that bit’s not quite so amazing). I actually got my shorts on yesterday - the first time for eight months. They fitted too. I wish it could be summer every day. It’s also the time when publishers seize the opportunity to release another round of diet-books. Most are about yet more ways to deprive ourselves of the things we really want to eat, all in an effort to lose the pounds that stand between us and being able to don a pair of shorts and lie in the garden without worrying about what the neighbours might think. So, how would you like to dispense with diets once and for all? How would you like to quit calorie counting and maintain a slender figure whilst at the same time being able to eat pretty much anything you want? How does that sound? It’s possible. And it’s not difficult to do either. How To Eat Loads and Stay Slim is the latest book from author
Peter Jones and myself. Based on our joint experiences of struggling to find the holy grail of personal weight management, it’s a mixture of hard science (for example, how hunger really works), quick ‘cheats’ (how to make zero fat chips), psychological techniques (why focusing on your food as you eat is really important), ingenious strategies (how to cut down on sugar without going cold turkey), and easy recipes – all wrapped up in an easy-to-digest, humorous read. Each of our thought provoking ideas has a star rating. There are 54 stars available. You get one just for buying the book! Collect enough and you’ll steadily increase your chances of being able to eat loads and stay slim. Collect enough stars and a slim figure, coupled with a healthy but satiated appetite, are yours for the taking. How To Eat Loads and Stay Slim is available in audio, paperback and ebook format, from your local Amazon and audible stores. Over the next three months, I’ll be bringing you recipes to aid your weight loss journey.

RECIPE Fat Free Jellies with Fruit and Yoghurt
- serves four
These are rather lovely for a summer afternoon dessert
Ingredients 400g Strawberries (fresh cherries work really well too – de-stone them first) 200g Blueberries 2 fat free strawberry yoghurts or cherry if using fresh cherries. (I use Muller light or M&S Count on Us range) 1 sugar free strawberry jelly To serve – four knickerbocker glory dishes.
Method
Prepare fruit. Hull and chop strawberries, (reserve four for decoration). Place in bottom quarter of knickerbocker glory dishes. Make up jelly as per instructions and pour over fruit to cover. Layer remaining fruit with yoghurt, then top up with remaining jelly mix. Refrigerate until set – about 1.5 hours. Garnish with remaining strawberries. Enjoy!

The beauty of these is that they are fat free - so if you don’t happen to have any guests coming round, you can have more than one - and it’s not often you can have more than one dessert and not feel guilty! Oh and by the way, the little glass dish in the picture is a portion of leftover fruit and jelly - just in case you want to eat even more guilt free dessert.

Live theatre – in your cinema! By Laurence Jones
R
ecently, I booked tickets for National Theatre Live, who were streaming a performance of ‘The Audience’ to cinemas. I’d never seen a live theatre broadcast before, so was interested in finding out more and went to see the play at my local cinema. It was fantastic, thanks to both the quality of the play and the broadcast. Granted, it could never fully live up to the real experience of seeing a production live in a theatre in London. But at a fraction of the cost and with the convenience
competition
of the location, it was very enjoyable. Seeing it through the lens of a camera offered up some distinct advantages – being able to see close ups of facial expressions and characters certainly gave it an edge over being stuck at the back of a theatre. Having our attention diverted away from stagehands and scene transitions also gave it an extra level of immersion. As it was live, we had to break for an interval to get ice creams and be back in our cinema seats for the second half.
The National Theatre trailers promised future productions to be streamed to cinemas, including ‘War Horse’, ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Othello.’ One thought I came away with is that schools should definitely use these live stream events for their students –it’s a cheaper alternative than a live show - but more immersive than watching it on an old VCR. I shall certainly be booking more tickets at my cinema in the future – and urge you to do the same!

Celia Sawyer Celia Sawyer is a real life success story and a local up-cycling guru. As owner of her own luxury interior design company, Cool 10, and one of the star dealers on Channel 4‘s ‘Four Rooms’, she designs and creates for a worldwide, A-list clientele. She lives in Sandbanks with her family and also owns properties in Barbados and London. mags4dorset was lucky enough to catch up with her recently.
C
elia told me about her work with British Heart Foundation Furniture and Electrical Stores, whom she is partnering to offer expert advice. I asked her a little more about what she would be doing.
“As my role as the BHF’s Interiors Expert, I will be visiting a number of BHF Furniture & Electrical Stores and giving advice on styling and pricing as well as using some of their goods in my schemes to show people what brilliant items you can pick up and how fab they can look for a small amount of money,” she explained. “I have already donated a few items to my local store in Poole and would encourage everyone to pop by when they are in the area – there are some real vintage gems to be found such as cabinets, sofas, armchairs, beds and more." The BHF is close to Celia's heart. She told me why: "My Dad suffered from heart attacks. I know how vital the funds raised in these stores are to funding research which will
hopefully, one day, eradicate this deadly disease for good.”
Celia' s list of achievements is enviable: a self-made millionaire, the owner of her own luxury interior design company and most recently a dealer on 'Four Rooms '. I asked her what she would attribute most to her success. “Perseverance and hard work,” she explained. “Everything I do, I give 100% and that is the key, however tough it gets at times, I do not give up.” She had a real life career off-screen, and I wanted to find out if she felt there was more appeal in television programmes featuring experts like herself, rather than traditionally groomed presenters? Her answer was modest. “I think it really depends. Although you may be the expert, you still need to come across well on television, which of course is where the presenter comes in as they are trained. Some experts may not come across well and be a tad boring on television ... I hope I’m not one of them."

There is little chance of that. 'Celia knows what she wants and has captured her audience with her no nonsense deals and determination.
I asked her what kind of items she would recommend this year to liven up smaller houses and apartments. “Great mirrors, as large as you can find," she says enthusiastically. "I’m a real lover of these as you can pick up all sorts of styles to suit any home and they always add tons of glamour.” Celia has a trained eye for items for the home, so what advice could she give on where to start looking for something unique? “It depends. If they are very serious, auctions are great, but do your research first," she explained. “EBay often has some really interesting items on offer, or even car boot sales and markets can be good for your smaller items. It's a case of looking into all of these options and don’t forget to look in local bric-a-brac shops and charity shops as you never know what little gems are hidden away in there, I have found loads.”
In ' Four Rooms' , we’ve seen a lot of weird and wonderful items presented on the show. I wanted to know what had been her favourite piece so far? It was a tough choice for Celia, “My Roadkill Couture is one of my favourites," she said, "closely
www.mags4dorset.co.uk
followed by a fabulous Hologram by Stephen Benton which is one of the first of its kind.”
Celia works with a prestigious clientele, so it seemed reasonable to ask whether she has specific clients in mind when buying artwork and other pieces for re-sale. “Not always," she replied. "I very often buy what I like and know will eventually sell. Even though I like hanging on to some things for a while myself!” And how often are her instincts right? The answer was a firm 99%. “I buy what I love so that even if I have to keep hold of it for a while, I can enjoy it whilst waiting for a buyer," she added. "I’m always sad when items sell but having said that, I put my business head on and think of the next deal... there is always something else around the corner!”
There was one final question for Celia before the interview was wrapped up. What was her advice for Viewpoint and 4Dorset readers to help make their dreams become reality? She instinctively knew the answer. “You can do anything if you put your mind and soul into it, work hard and don’t give up. It can be tough at times, but one thing I absolutely promise you is that if you follow your dreams, the rewards will be incredible.”

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is designed as a way of making sure the electrical installations in your home are safe It involves a visual inspection by a registered electrician of all socketoutlets, lights, switches, consumer units and wiring. The EICR requires testing of the installation including whether the Residual Current Devices (RCDs) are operating correctly where installed. RCDs are electrical wiring devices that switch off your electrics when an electrical circuit fault develops in your home. The electrician will also make sure the earthing system is correct and check that the correct installations are in place for more hazardous environments. For example, an RCD must be fitted for any installation in a bathroom for safety reasons. EICRs are useful for finding out whether an electrical installation is safe and are strongly advised when renting a property or moving home. For existing homeowners, it is recommended that you carry out an EICR every 10 years. Any electrical installations over a decade old that haven’t been checked could pose
serious risks. This is because they may have become damaged over time without you realizing. There are circumstances where an EICR may be required more frequently than every 10 years. For instance, older installations, or if your property suffers from damp conditions. If you are concerned about the condition of any of your electrical installations, it is sensible to get an EICR carried out on your property by a competent electrician who is registered to carry out an EICRs. This provides you with that piece of mind of knowing you and your family are safe in your home. ElectricSafe is a register of competent electricians in England and Wales who meet strict qualification requirements and are regularly assessed to ensure their ongoing competence. HOROSCOPES
BROADSTONE FEATURE - BUSINESS COMMUNITY UNITY
RUSSELL GRANT’S
Monthly Horoscopes ARIES 21 March–20 April It may seem difficult, demanding and even daunting to purge your world, clear the clutter and streamline your thinking, but if you take decisive action you will soon be able to look about you and pick and choose the things you want to do rather than feel chained to the things other people want you to do. There’s romance surrounding you at the end of the month and this, coupled with a special aura of success and confidence glowing around a team effort or joint endeavour, will ease your financial situation and make you the centre of some very flattering attention. TAURUS 21 April–21 May Mid-July is ideal for a taking an overseas holiday. If you’re single, you’ll meet someone special on this trip. Don’t worry if there’s a big age difference involved; this will only add spice to your union. You’ll feel torn between your public and private lives in the days surrounding the 22nd; it is time to scale back your work and political commitments for the sake of your loved ones. Schedule an enjoyable vacation for the gang. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to reconnect with your nearest and dearest. GEMINI 22 May–21 June Good news arrives on the financial front near the 8th, when you’re awarded a rise, well paid post, or cash reward. Use it to put a down payment on a house or buy some new furniture. Disappointing news from a medical expert around the 22nd will be sobering. Don’t despair. This turn of events will force you to make some changes to your daily routine. Fixing nutritious meals and taking more exercise will be burdensome at first, but you’ll soon feel the benefits. Spend as much time with family as possible as July turns into August. The support of your relatives will turn out to be invaluable.
CANCER 22 June–23 July You’ll have a wonderful opportunity to take a romantic break in the middle of July. An argument over money will erupt as July moves into August. You’re tired of someone holding their hand out every time you have a little extra cash in your pocket. You feel you are being taken for granted and you are right. Stop letting them lay guilt trips on you or, worse still using emotional blackmail to get what they want. You work hard for your money, and have every right to spend it on exactly what you want. It’s time to draw some stricter boundaries in this relationship. LEO 24 July–23 August An opportunity to volunteer for a hospital or spiritual organisation will present itself around the 8th. By lending your efforts to them, your fortunes will start to improve. Although your duties won’t be very glamorous, they will provide you with a degree of emotional satisfaction. The second half of the month will force you to act as mediator between your family and romantic partner. When in doubt, throw your support to your amour. The sooner you establish healthier boundaries between you and your relatives, the happier you will be. Single? It may be because you allow your family to interfere with your personal life too much. VIRGO 24 August–23 September July opens with an unpleasant secret coming to light. A hidden enemy has been trying to damage your reputation, but loyal friends are poised to set the record straight. Mid-month brings welcome relief from stress, when you’re able to go on holiday with a group of your favourite people. You can relax and let your hair down. Beware of overdoing it with food and drink. If you treat your body like a temple, you’ll be able to take advantage of a flirtation with one of the locals. The two of you will feel an instant connection while you’re shopping in the local market. The end of July stimulates your creative instincts. Start work on a writing project.
LIBRA 24 September–23 October A career opportunity will arrive around the 8th, helping you make money from your intellectual abilities. You have a way of putting customers and clients at ease, even when delivering bad news. Underscore this ability when going on interviews. Mid-July finds you making more time for creative pursuits. Playing music, painting, and writing are all activities you will enjoy. Don’t be afraid to try a new medium; you have raw talent in virtually every artistic field. You’ll retire from public view as July turns to August. A little more quiet time will restore your spirits. Even a social butterfly like you needs an occasional break from parties.
CAPRICORN 22 December–20 January An exciting business partnership is scheduled around the 8th. Focus on finding new business, generating sales, and closing deals. Your partner is better suited to promotional efforts and customer service. By the third week of the month you’ll be in a good position to launch a blog or write a book. People are eager to draw on your considerable wisdom. The 22nd brings an abrupt end to a source of income. You’ll have to find another way to generate funds. Unfortunately, friends may not be in the position to help this time around. Draft a resume that highlights your experience, and send out a slew of job applications in late July.
SCORPIO 24 October–22 November By the time the 8th arrives, you’ll be given a marvellous opportunity to advance your education. You might even decide to change the entire course of your life, pursuing a career or lifestyle that resonates with your spirit. Your willingness to work hard and make sacrifices for the sake of a long term goal will yield rewards during July. Prepare to receive a scholarship, grant, or prize around the 17th. Family won’t be very supportive of your dreams toward the end of the month. Turn a deaf ear to their predictions of gloom and doom as July draws to a close. If you continue to have faith in your abilities, you’ll reach great heights and silence your detractors.
AQUARIUS 21 January–19 February Your daily regimen becomes a lot more rewarding after the 8th, when you make more time for your favourite hobbies. Give an unpleasant job to a relative who hasn’t been doing their fair share. You’re tired of doing the lion’s share of work. By mid-July, you’ll be able to revisit one of your favourite vacation spots. Be sure to take a camera along to record all of your happy memories. The 22nd warns against challenging an executive’s authority. As much as you want to be a free agent, you need to the protection of a powerful organisation. A passionate affair helps your wounded pride to heal as July turns to August.
SAGITTARIUS 23 November–21 December Let down your defences, especially when it comes to family taboos. The values with which you were raised aren’t necessarily ones you should maintain as an adult. Build a belief system that reflects your principles. Disappointing news regarding a friend will reach your ears near the 22nd. The two of you won’t be able to spend much time together in the months ahead. You’ll have to find other ways to use your time. Developing a new creative talent would be a good idea at this time. Alternately, you may decide to get a pet. Whatever you decide, don’t let depression drag you down. Change is inevitable; you might as well embrace it.

Nissan Qashqai+2

2.0 DCI 360 4WD
Good news: the Nissan Qashqai+2 2.0 DCI 360 4WD is a ‘crossover’ class vehicle, so it has the strengths of a people carrier, a family estate, and a four-wheel-drive. Let us consider its impressive credentials. This workhorse has five, full-size seats and two occasional ones rise from the boot floor, via easy to pull straps. Passenger capacity therefore matches large people carriers such as the Ford S-MAX. Furthermore, even with five people aboard, cargo capacity is 450-litres and this rises to 1,520-litres when the middle/rear seats are folded flat. These figures are comparable to medium-size estates such as the Vauxhall Astra Sports Tourer. Finally, like the Land Rover Discovery the Qashqai+2 2.0 DCI 360 4WD Automatic has four-wheel-drive. Whereas this system is not intended for extreme conditions, it is invaluable when the road is slippery due to rain, ice, snow, mud, etc. It also has a flexible diesel engine that propels it to

62mph in 11.6 seconds and averages 39.8mpg – so performance/fuel consumption are fair for the class. Good news: the Nissan Qashqai+2 2.0 DCI 360 4WD is a high-spec model so it is beautifully equipped. The highlight is its Around View Monitor that provides a 360 degree view of the surroundings. How? Via four cameras. The first is mounted to the front grill, the second close to the rear registration plate, and the final two are in the wing mirrors. These images are presented to the motorist via a colour screen on the dashboard and make parking straightforward. As such, the risk of scuffing the wheels on a kerb or scratching the paintwork is minimal. This camera system complements the half leather seats, dual-zone climate control and the impressive panoramic roof that helps it feel spacious. This £27,550 beauty also has an electronic stability program that minimises the chance of losing control. And that is good news too.
