Murders at Fleat House by Lucinda Riley, paperback £9.99

The Murders at Fleat House is a suspenseful and utterly compelling crime novel from the author of the best-selling Seven Sisters series, Lucinda Riley. The sudden death of a pupil in Fleat House, a small private boarding school in deepest Norfolk, is a shocking event that the headmaster is very keen to call a tragic accident. But the local police cannot rule out foul play and the case prompts the return of high-flying Detective Inspector Jazmine Hunter to the force. A particularly grim discovery at the school makes this the most challenging murder investigation of her career, because Fleat House hides secrets darker than even Jazz could ever have imagined…

A Brief History of the British Monarchy: From the Iron Age to King Charles III by Jeremy Black, hardback £16.99

Concise and engaging, this book charts the very beginnings of British reign through to the longest serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II - and looks forward to the reign of King Charles III. Much more than a linear history, this is the intertwined story of royalty and state, of divisions, invasions, rivalries, death and glory; the story of nation fates deeply tied with the personal endeavours of monarchs through the ages. Exploring the House of Wessex, the Norman Conquest, Henry VIII and the Tudors, Victorianism and key events such as the abdication of Edward VIII, this book is a necessary and comprehensive guide to the British Monarchy and how it has shaped history, and our lives today.

Montgomery Bonbon: Murder at the Museum by Alasdair Beckett-King, paperback £7.99

Aimed at junior school age children 8-12

Many people go their whole lives without noticing anything is afoot, amiss, or even untoward; without ever experiencing that toe-tingling, stomach-twisting sensation that a mystery is about to unfold. Not Bonnie Montgomery, the world’s best detective. Not that anyone (other than Grampa Banks) has heard of her. But they might have heard of the great Montgomery Bonbon, the well-dressed gentleman detective who (apart from the hat and moustache) looks suspiciously like a 10-year-old girl. In this brilliantly funny young murder mystery, they must solve the mystery surrounding a highly suspicious death at the Hornville Museum. Together they’ll interview some dodgy witnesses, scour the scene for clues and, above all, hope no one notices that Bonnie and Montgomery are never in the same room at the same time...

Chartered Physiotherapist Registered With The Health Professions Council Claire Van Wingerden Mscp

Some of you may wonder where I had disappeared to when these articles stopped- the answer is actually no-where! Well, that’s no completely true as I have packed quite a few trips away in, but more of me later! Right now, the question is how are you?!

For those of you that are newer to the Mudeford and Friars Cliff area, I am Claire, a Physiotherapist with well over 30 years clinical experience. I have worked from my home in Friars Cliff for 19 years now alongside the local hospitals, GP practices and University. I consider myself one of the lucky ones for choosing a career at the age of about 14 that I am still delighted to be happy working in.

I treat a broad spectrum of conditions these days both in my clinic room and in the community, but, the main stay is always around joint pain, both spinal and limbs, mobility and strengthening and pain relief for a multitude of musculoskeletal conditions. This can range from assessment and advice as to what needs to be done, hands on treatment (yes that does still exist and is highly beneficial for soft tissue injuries and stiffness in joints) and exercises and rehabilitation that you can continue with yourself.

I use many different techniques from joint mobilisation, massage, electrotherapy such as ultrasound, and Acupuncture which I have practised for over 25 years now too. The underlying medical training and experience that I have gained combines all these skills together. Accurate assessment and realistic objectives are of course key to outcome and results.

One thing my patients will vouch for- and I have seen around 2500 new patients and goodness only knows how many follow up’s now, since working from home (that shocked me too…!)- is my enthusiasm and energy and that will help you get to grips with your current situation. No one plans slipping over and breaking your shoulder, tripping over the dog and spraining your ankle, stiffness and a bit of aging catching up on us when we weren’t looking (outrageous I know, but it does happen!!).

People are often a bit despondent when they struggle to walk as they could, or have constant niggling pain in their neck, but the good news is there are often many simple exercises and treatments that can get you out of that loop and give you the incentive to ‘up the anti’ and improve your engagement with hobbies and friends and family.

As for me, having lost our dog and watched the boys fly the nest into their new careers in London (bet they live back down here once the novelty wears off of city life), I am sailing as much as possible, walking miles and generally being noisy and enjoying life. After all we never know what is the round the corner and I have witnessed too much of that in the last two years.

So, if any of this resonates with you and you need some friendly but highly experienced help from a Physiotherapist, maybe I can help you. Just contact me via my website clairevanwingerden.com, via email at clairevw1@ntlworld.com or my dodgy landline (that Virgin insists is fine) on 01425 272000.

Claire
