STUDIO 5: HOUSING Housing is the people living together, their co-existence. The site is located near vastrapur lake on Arbindo society road. The site analysis was carried out in Group. The intended habitants (lower middle-income group) were chosen based on the surrounding locality and the neighbourhoods. The recreational spaces at multiple floor levels were created through terraces and connecting them with bridges. Based on the available FSI, the site and the given Program, Number of units to be placed in the site was decided.

Overlooking the spaces.

There were three, two and one generation units provided. The units are module based, designed in a way that the area of the one generation unit is half of the area of two generation unit; and the area of two generation is 3/4th of the area of three generation unit.Terraces are created by placing these different size units on one another.

STUDIO 4: MATERIALITY AND INSTITUTION Designing a crematorium means to create spaces where one could find peace and calmness. There are three major aspects taken into consideration; namely, approach, contrast, and connectivity. The main focus was to show sudden change from direct light to diffused light with the help of perforated (Jali) wall. The spaces were designed with surprise elements of closed spaces articulated into open spaces by breaking the visual axis or axis of movement. At this place one could experience contrasting feelings; viz. Sadness but peace, crowd yet silence. To have clear understanding of the chosen material (Brick and Concrete) part model of the case-study (Cristo Obero church ) was made at a scale of 1:10. Jali wall on the western facade

STUDIO 2: TECTONICS The studio program was to create a science institute for children of different age group, a place where they can learn and conduct experiments by themselves. The location of the site was near Nathi ghat in Udaipur. Front side of the site is a chowk and otherside is a chikuvadi. The intent was to create a friendly experience by choosing the built form’s geometry circular and a central courtyard. That opens towards the street. In this studio project circular staircase and ramp were explored. Before the studio, an introduction was given to the contours and development around the trees with the help of an abstract exercise of making drawing ink strokes in gradation. First exercise was to make strokes with Drawing ink in gradation .

One side of the contours is considerd as water body.

Spaces are created in a way that it responds to contours and water body.

STUDIO 1: FORM AND SPACE MAKING The focus of the studio was to learn space making and movement through these spaces. A 3x3 module was to be repeated to form a grid pattern in vertical and horizontal directions. Openings were developed for the visual connections between the spaces and to demonstrate the sense of mass and void. This exercise created closed, semi-open and open spaces. The second stage was to repeat a module of 3x6 in a pattern using 3 colours; red, black and yellow such that only two colours are visible on every face of the cube.

STUDIO 3: VERTICAL STUDIO,PEOPLE AND PLACES The site given was the ravivari market which is held under Ellis bridge on banks of river Sabarmati. This open air market has function arrangement of zones and 1641 platforms for vendors. The aim was to design a shade for the scrap metal sellers using parametric. The shade will respond to the angle of sun and change its configuration. Hence, every hour the configuration of the shade will be different. There are 6 members placed radially .Length of each horizontal member is made by calculating sun angle. The member facing the south direction is calculated to be the longest member and the member facing north is the shortest.

MATERIAL EXPLORATIONS To understand load bearing and frame structures this exercise was made to do. A 2D composition was made with the shapes overlapping each other. This composition was translated to 3D by giving stability with two materials (clay for load bearing and steel rods for frame).

To understand the material (adobe bricks) part sectional model at a scale of 1:10,with foundation layers was made of the case study (Auroville earth institute).

An introduction was given to bamboo as a material and its applications. A workshop was carried out in which different bamboo joineries were made to explore to achieve a stable structure. Joinery material used are ropes.

Each adobe brick was made in the scale and sun dried and each course of the walls was built according to the bond.

DOCUMENTATION: ART-DECO STYLE OF HOUSES,AHMEDABAD Art -Deco is a major movement in the decorative arts and architecture that originated in the 1920s in western Europe. The Purpose of this program is to document such houses in Ahmedabad which have some resemblance of Art-Deco and also to understand the significance of the movement in that era. The house documented is located in Paldi,Ahmedabad. It was built in 1950s.

WORKSHOP:DHARMALYA,HIMACHAL Dharmalaya institute is located on Dhanaari hill, above the town of Bir in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. It is an institute encouraging education, with the practical focus on sustainability, This building is made with the neo-kangra style of architecture. The workshop focused on learning the process of building neo-kangra style by making 1:1 scale built form on site. Materials worked with are - adobe bricks and bamboo

COLLABORATIVE PROGRAM: IAAC ,SPAIN IAAC’s proposal aims on the requalification of the wood workshop’s door including a new innovative mechanical system focused on performative design and digital fabrication approaches. The Door is divided into three segments and connected with hinges allowing rotational movement.

Iterations were made to figure out the opening
