INTEGRATION OF A PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION CORRIDOR WITH ITS URBAN FABRIC
SITE NEHRUNAGAR - SHIVRANJANI, AHMEDABAD, GUJARAT SITE AREA 26,500 SQ. MT. 2014
1
INTRODUCTION Any city once it starts developing needs to strengthen its modes of public transport. Ahmedabad, the commercial capital of Gujarat is the Seventh largest metropolis in India with a population of 6 million (2001)is preparing for the emerging challenges by developing an efficient rapid mass transit system. Our streets and Urban fabric are not designed to bare the load of Mass transit systems. They generally are seen as a foreign body pasted on a site with already existing problems. The aim is to integrate the complex modes of transport along with the varied functions and uses of a typical Indian street in a harmonious way which would in-turn make the streets and city vibrant and humanized. The corridor from Nehrunagar circle till the Shivranjani Cross roads is a 1.4km long crucial stretch with various urban issues which hinder and undermine its true scope as a public utility space.

SWOT ANALYSIS 6
DESIGN PROGRAM The motto of the project would be to develop the site as a model street where various modes of transport co-exist and function in an efficient way along with the multi functional street character of the area. The design program would include: Developing the evening market in a more organized and legitimized way. Looking into the space design for vendors and providing other common facilities like sanitation and lighting. Extension of the GSRTC bus stop with increased facilities. Developing a green pocket in the midst of the city as a community space for the neighbouring residential community and general public. The idea is to develop the stretch into an active public realm.

STUDENT HOUSING _ APIED, ANAND Home away from home. Students spend a considerable part of their student life in a student housing, thus the aim is to design a simple and functionally sound community where they have a sense of belonging. The spatial organization in the overall planning has been done according to the user groups and their usage. While the common amenities such as the cafeteria and the library have been placed where they can be easily accessible. The housing blocks overlook the individual common garden and clubhouse thus encouraging visual connection and assuring safety. There is a central motorable axis which divides the site in to two and is continued to its periphery which makes the interiors pedestrian friendly. 1 SECURITY CABIN 2 CLUB HOUSE 3 COMMON GARDEN 4 FOUR SHARING UNITS 5 TWIN SHARING UNITS 6 POSTGRADUATE UNITS 7 ADMINISTRATION OFFICE 8 CAFETERIA 9 GAZEBO

CITY CIVIC CENTRE & EXHIBITION GALLERY SITE PUNE, MAHARASHTRA SITE AREA 2450 SQ. MT. 2011
4
CITY CIVIC CENTRE, PUNE The studio was to design an institutional building and prepare its working drawings in the following semester. The site was in the city of Pune and the brief was to design a City Civic Centre with an Exhibition Gallery and a Cafeteria. A “Civic Centre is a prominent building within a community with varied public facilities along with a Government building. It would include varied Government departments like the Tourist Information Centre, Health Department, Fire Department, Mayors cabin etc. It is generally located at the focal point or center of the city where it is easily accessible.
CONCEPTUALS
In accordance with the climatic conditions of the city, maximum cross ventilation was a vital factor in designing a public building. Thus, the overall planning has numerous open to sky courts all along its circulation areas. The western side of the building has public spaces like the library, the exhibition gallery and a cafeteria with a large covered verandah followed by a large stepped spill over space. The staircase block acts as an integral element with its landing extended into the central court allowing visual connectivity. The entrance is a large double height colonnade with a cutout in the center providing the grandeur of a public space.

URBAN FABRIC
SITE CONTEXT JITODIA CITY LAKE, ANAND Jitodia is a small town located on southern side of the city of Anand. The town has a lake located on its outer periphery. Its dilapidated condition made it a dumping area for garbage while the edges were used for washing clothes. The area had a scope to be redeveloped as an active public space which can be utilized by the residents of the near by towns.
SITE PLAN 48
The aim was to redevelop and revitalize the lake and the area around by providing facilities like covered sitting areas, Children play areas and a cafeteria. An existing contoured island in the middle of the lake had been developed and made accessible by a wooden structure for the public.

ANGANWADI, ANAND Aanganwadi literally means “courtyard shelter. In 1975 the Indian government started it as a part of Integrated Child Development service to combat issues related to child development. An aanganwadi would generally have nurseries and day care for children of the workers at a nominal rate. As my material chosen was RCC. It gave me an opportunity to play with the form. The three classrooms have an unconventional spiral form with an elevated roof supported by free standing columns. Keeping the scale in accordance to the children, the spiral RCC wall gradually increases in height. The suspended circular RCC slabs are at varied levels. The three classrooms having the same height with the central slab covering the common space below. The roof structure provides natural light and ventilation in all the classrooms.

PADMAVATI CHAUGAN, VADODARA The city of Vadodara was conceived as a planned fort city-mandvi, but later developments have been haphazard and so the city is now buckling under the pressures of modernization. Padmavati Chaugan was built with a purpose of providing retail trading and public sector offices in the city center in 1970 A.D. Redesigned space released the land of built and the functions were vertically stacked. Parts of land was developed as a green spread intended for recreation, relaxation and vending stations for hawkers were designed to suit the respective natures of their goods.

BASIC DESIGN SKETCHES 2009 - 10
PRODUCT DESIGN

BASIC DESIGN The paper folding excersice in the intial years helped in better visualization of the forms and the spaces created around, in between and due to it. The forms created were supposed to be visualized as a mass thus having a holding to the ground. It was helpful in understanding stability and structure.
PAPER FOLDING
The study and sketches of seeds and the human skeleton was to understand basic human anthropometry along with the proportions of the nature.
SKETCHES 78
BASIC DESIGN The Tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form different shapes. This exercise made us play with the positive and negative spaces formed in the course of creating a pattern. It was also an instant and easy way to understand massing. The study of logos in the first year helped us understand how basic geometry’s can lead to complex shapes and forms. While analyzing them in two and three dimensions we explored varied creative forms that could be emerged and developed from the existing design. The HSBC logo consisting of six triangles was explored by adding an another dimension to it.
LOGO DESIGN
TANAGRAMS
PRODUCT DESIGN It is a must in a girl’s hand bag. Unlike the make up kit it is degined for essentials like a comb, chapstick and a Kohl. While the upper compartment has a mirror attached on its back and is deep enough to store small jewellery. The lower ones would hold the longitudnal items. Its curved edges make it easily storable.
