Originally a concrete warehouse, 5MW is reimagined as a residential high-rise within “the largest private real estate development in the United States. Analyzing its placement within busy NYC and its existing characteristics paved the way for form finding and programmatics, allowing for a conducive collection of housing, amenities and community spaces.

A collaborative project between Iowa State’s class of 2020 and Reliable Street, SHIFT utilizes 2x4s to create a certain conglomeration of playfulness, art, and gathering. Using a series of modules, SHIFT houses cave-like spaces, flat spaces, and sitting spaces to make an inhabitable sculpture where community members can come together, collaborate or generally hang out.

This project, sited in Rome, Italy, unites the old with new by creating a modern urban center while restitiching the urban fabric to highlight the importance of preserving ruins. By exploring how things can be altered and shifted to better tell a story we can showcase the overlap between old history and history being made.

Davenport, Iowa is the largest city along the Mississippi River with no flood protection system in place. We were tasked with first designing a barge that tackles an issue unique to the river, and then scaling that up to a research facility that explores the beneficial qualities and uses of “Alluvial Technologies.”
