About Local Matters
Tired of reading about events in remote places, celebrities you’ve never met, places you’ll probably never visit and opinions you never asked for? Then welcome to Local Matters where we like to think we do things differently.
Our community papers – Mahurangi Matters (2024 Community Newspaper of the Year), Hibiscus Matters and Mangawhai Focus – are locally owned and service the communities they are distributed in. The papers are published fortnightly and most ago directly into letterboxes, as well as high traffic areas such as supermarkets and dairies.
Local Matters is about the people who live and work in your community, and the issues that matter to readers. We are proud that our articles are written by journalists and not just advertorial or press release updates.
The papers cover the gamut of local issues from council politics, new businesses, health and beauty, fishing and sport to entertainment, arts, gardening and local history, as well as classifieds, tide timetables and a What’s On calendar. Every year we also include special features focusing on growth and construction, fashion, health and fitness, retirement, travel, home maintenance and lots more.
One of the nicest compliments we’ve ever received was from a reader who said when she saw the paper delivered to her letterbox, she knew it was time to put on the kettle and make a cup of tea. “There’s always something interesting on every page, because even the advertisements are local.”
