In fact, our name Muuto, inspired by the Finnish word muutos, means new perspective. To us good design starts with the person. We handpick the brightest design talent and the leading contemporary designers in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape and others still, draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a vase, a lamp, a chair or any other everyday object? I aimed for a crisp and vivid expression in the plywood while looking for a solid and grounded look in the frame and base of the chair. Three years of play and hard work in the making has resulted in a light, yet strong armchair, playing and taking the molded veneer to its extreme.�

“The task was to create a personal interpretation of the ever-relevant plywood chair. I wanted my chair to have an unobtrusive and timeless nature that is familiar but never boring and without sacrificing function or ergonomics. Designing a family of chairs, visually releated but for different functions, was an iterative and thorough process lasting nearly two years. In the end, I think every detail is exactly as it is supposed to be.�

TAF ARCHITECTS ON THEIR TABLE DESIGN “Our idea was to update the classic Scandinavian wood dining table. The design has obvious references to traditional Scandinavian furniture making but the choice of materials and detailing give the table it a new expression. ”The 70/70 table is a study in geometric forms identifying the dimensions for a well-balanced table. It has an almost anonymous expression but with careful detailing.
