Week 2 workflow

Week 2 workshop step by step To begin with I had to source example images for each genre. To do this I used an image library, ShutterStock. From these sites I selected 4 images associated with each genre, screen grabbed them and opened them all up in Photoshop.

Once I had opened all my images I needed to resize them so they were all the same and fitted onto an A4 page. I did this by changing the image size to 8cm x 5cm with 300dpi. I then used the ‘selective crop’ tool set to a fixed ratio of 21cm x 29.7cm (A4 size) and cropped the image.

Once I had re-sized all my images I extended the canvas on one to the size of A4. I then extended the canvas to 30cm x 35cm to allow a boarder to form around the edge of the image.

I then copied the rest of the images onto the canvas and created equal boarders between each one using the rulers.

The next job was to add 10 key words you would associate with the image. This task was to practise and understand the importance of using key words when we publish our own work online. Key words fall under the Search Engine Optimisation category and they are directly linked with the number of hits work gets.

Once I had added all the key words the next job was to make the document into A4 size ensuring that I had equal boarders. I did this by using the selective crop at a fixed ratio.

Finally the document was ready to save. I saved it as a PSD so the layers ramind clear so I can go back and edit the image if I want to but I also saved it as a JPEG so I can upload and print them.
