IN CONVERSATION WITH HELEN GARNER Helen Garner is the award-winning author of novels, stories, screenplays and works of non-fiction. Her 2014 book This House of Grief was named Best True Crime book in the 2015 Ned Kelly Awards. Her most recent book Everywhere I Look is a collection of essays. Spanning fifteen years of work, it is a book filled with the wisdom of life. Helen is joined by Newcastle Herald Walkley Award winning journalist Joanne McCarthy in a compelling discussion on her books and her life as a writer. HEROES AND VILLAINS If your child loves creating stories and using their imagination, our Write Now! children’s literary award for infants and primary aged students will help them to develop their writing skills and be rewarded for their efforts with some great prizes. This year the theme of Write Now! is Heroes and Villains. Writing workshops for children will be held in each of our branch libraries during May. THE MAGIC OF WRITING
Clothes tell us a lot about the history of the time. From the farm bonnet worn in 1900 to the safari suit of 1970, the history of Maitland and its surrounds is revealed in Nell Pyle’s book History Hidden in Hunter Wardrobes.

KERRY O’BRIEN ON KEATING One of Australia’s most incisive and respected political journalists, Kerry O’Brien, gives a fascinating insight into the intriguing and controversial former Prime Minister, Paul Keating, in the biography Keating.
