Create Maitland PARTICIPANTS LOOKING FOR SPACES
To make your property available for Create Maitland or discuss requirements please contact the Business Liaison Officer, Nicole Dickson at Nicole.Dickson@maitland.nsw.gov.au or on 02 4931 2816
Do you have a vacant property needing activating and leasing? Maitland is embarking on an urban renewal pilot project called Create Maitland to activate vacant properties in key commercial sites by offering short term tenures for creatives. Working alongside owners and agents, this program aims to bolster foot traffic to commercial properties without interfering with the leasing process. Activating the site will also improve the look of the property and reduce the chance of vandalism.
For a pilot project to occur formal commitment is needed from property owners to provide access to a suitable and available property. To achieve this, a prospectus of interested creatives and makers looking for a space and details of their offering has been compiled and can be found throughout this document.

THE NEIS COLLECTIVE
COLLECTIVE RETAIL - STUDIO OFFICE - MAKERS SPACE
Our proposal for the creative space is to establish a collective retail/studio/office/makers space that harmoniously incorporates each businesses’ unique offering into a place where the community can shop, discover and create. We envision the front of the space as a retail/gallery where each businesses unique offering is displayed for purchase. Our interior designers will ensure the space looks unified and is an exciting and inclusive place to shop. We will have regular displays that tie in with community programs and events. There will also be a makers’ space where our artists will run hands on workshops for members of the public. Workshops will include painting, photography, sustainable floristry, craft activities. As the collective has two NDIS support workers and members with disabilities involved in the project we will be able to ensure that our makers space is inclusive. Several of our artists have expressed interest in having an open studio space where they can work on projects and members of the public can visit and see how work is created. This aspect of the collective will require a risk assessment to be developed. Several of our NEIS business who are not directly involved in creative industries have expressed interest in having office space within the collective. They recognise that being in a start up small business can be isolating. Being part of the collective by having office space and being on the roster for running the project is important part of their mental health plan SPACE REQUIREMENTS Display window, ground floor or upstairs and water.

KYLIE FOLEY PHOTOGRAPHY
HUNTER ACADEMY OF PERFORMING ARTS
I am a Portrait photographer who lives in the Hunter. I specialise in a very early photographic technique called Wet Plate Collodion and this process dates back to the early 1800’s. My portraits are handcrafted and are one of a kind, they take me approx. 20 minutes to craft. I believe the type of portraits I create generates a lot of interest. People love the idea of immersing themselves in this timeless technique and getting the experience of this hypnotic alchemy process.
We now take the dance to other areas including Karuah and Buladelah and would like to grow in our Maitland local area. Our cost is $6 per lesson or capped at $25 for all lessons but we would love to offer a gold coin per dance lessons so that dance is affordable to all Maitland residents and be able to offer them five days per week to keep our Maitland active. We also accept creative and active kids for parents to use on our lessons.
I think as a visitor or guest coming to Maitland this portrait sitting is very affordable, tailored to anybody who can just walk off the street and is a wonderful keepsake that is soaked in vintage photographic history.
SPACE REQUIREMENTS The space we would require would need to have three separate rooms with one being big enough to teach children cheer and gym.
SPACE REQUIREMENTS Ground floor and access to water, small shop space anything from a double garage to slightly bigger.
Water, toilet and power.

MATELAND VINTAGE SECOND HAND CLOTHING AND RECORD STORE
MAITLAND PODCAST STUDIO PODCAST RECORDING STUDIO
Mateland Vintage is a second hand clothing and record store. We would sell a curated selection of second hand clothing and vinyl records with a focus on Australian brands and artists.
I would like to launch a relatively simple recording studio geared towards creating podcasts. Podcasting is extremely popular with a lot of content being generated locally.
The large range of stock I have accumulated in my current business ‘Hustle Records’ includes close to a 1,000 vinyl records. These records are from all around the globe and every decade of recorded music.
People of all ages are becoming interested in creating their own shows, however not everyone has access to the space and gear or, perhaps they need advice on how to create and edit audio content.
I have also got close to 1,000 items of vintage clothing, a large portion of that consists of ‘Made in Australia’ items and popular band merchandise. With the stock I would be able to fill any small to mid-size store instantly with a unique mix of goods.
With a studio environment designed for this function, anyone interested can book a session to record, or attend a live tutorial to learn the basics and the more advanced skills required in recording, editing and mixing audio content.
‘Buy/sell/trade’ will also be a key aspect of Mateland Vintage. This encourages the local community to engage with the store in way that can suit any budget. For example, a customer could bring in some old records they no longer listen to and trade them for a new outfit.
The setup can also be used for acoustic music recording, within the limits of the four channel inputs (mainly suited to demo style recordings).
Mateland Vintage will be designed as a comfortable environment for anyone to come and browse, even if they are not specifically looking to buy. Our pricing system will also reflect the needs of all parts of our community with prices starting from as low as 50c SPACE REQUIREMENTS The only requirements are the basics - lighting, power, secure locks etc. Jake Bignell 0468 765 772 jakesy@hustlerecords.com.au 4
SPACE REQUIREMENTS Just electricity and a relatively secure building. Roughly 5mx5m would be sufficient. A small area is all that would be needed. A larger area would also work. Dylan Weir 0408 603 187 info@cookedmemories.com
ARABELLA IMAGERY
STUDIO LEVI-TATE
I’m a photographer/printer/designer. I started my business Arabella Imagery 3 years ago. I love a retail space to set up a store to sell my cushions, aluminium prints, scarves, t-shirts and bags that I have designed, printed and handmade in Maitland. Having somewhere to set up a photography studio for photographic work would also be amazing. I would also like to run small photography workshops in the space. SPACE REQUIREMENTS Ground floor with windows to set up a display. Dianne Richardson 0416 226 847 hi@arabellaimagery.com.au arabellaimagery.com.au facebook.com/ArabellaImagery
The concept I have for a space will depend on what the space is but I’m looking for a space that can be an open studio. Basically somewhere to create, show and share. This may mean a studio working space combined with a open to the public viewing space, and possibly even some teaching area. I’d like it to be friendly to anybody interested in visual art and to encourage greater discussion with the Maitland community about not only what individual artists do and what my practice is about, but also how creative thinking and practice can benefit the entire community, both individually and collectively. Presentation and sale of works would be an aim as well. SPACE REQUIREMENTS To be secure, good lighting, either artificial, natural or both. Good access. Ideally a window to the street so art work can be seen from the street. Water and somewhere to dispose of waste water. Toilet and sink either in the space or have access to easily. Electricity, power points. Andrew Bennett 0479 179 993 abart159@gmail.com andrewbennettart.com

CERUBLU
HAND MADE CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES
MAI-WEL CREATIVE SPACE
We would like to set up a studio shop where we can produce, show and sell our work while showcasing the production processes. We are committed to using repurposed and environmentally friendly materials in our pieces, with a firm belief in making quality, original items that are available at accessible prices. We love to make bespoke items designed specifically for clients, using environmentally friendly materials. The work includes but is not limited to, wild, quirky, crochet headgear. Each hat is a unique piece of wearable art and may depict creatures invented, real or mythical, or be simply exotically formed and vibrantly coloured. Clothing and accessories, such as exquisite embroidered jackets of repurposed, overdyed denim, painted and printed t-shirts, jeans and shoes, handbags and tote bags of handmade felt, repurposed denim, linen and leather. Paintings and wall hangings, like framed and unframed canvases, patchwork art quilts, thread paintings and hand painted sarong lengths. Homewares, including embroidered cushions and painted glassware. Most of the space would be dedicated to providing a fascinating area where our work is displayed. We have found that visitors love to browse, touch and often try on our work, so we like to make our display eclectic and interesting, while we are available to answer any questions or make sales. SPACE REQUIREMENTS We would like a ground floor space for ease of access. A window for display would be nice. Lisa and Lorraine Wiseman 0437 315 191 lisawcerublu@gmail.com 6
The opportunity to be part of Create Maitland, to showcase the works create by artists with disability from the local community would be a fantastic outcome for all. An inclusive project that would support all facets of creative practice in the visual arts and more. A space not only to showcase the diversity of visual communication but also the vibrant people behind the work. A gallery space in High street would provide a myriad of opportunities such as curation, customer service, marketing and developing connections. This project could also be a place for artists who attend Mai-Wel Creative Arts to be supported in their goals that may include providing workshops to community. SPACE REQUIREMENTS A shop space or space large enough to showcase artworks and display area of 3D works. Denise Duffy 02 4015 8480 denise.duffy@maiwel.com.au
WATERSHED COUNSELLING MAITLAND ART COLLECTIVE
We intend to use the space as an active studio including displaying our works for sale to the public. We also aim to use the space for creative projects such as classes. We would also like to encourage other local artists to expose their works by offering short term displays of their works for sale. We aim to continually grow our space to create a successful art business. SPACE REQUIREMENTS Min approx. 40 square metres. Anna Eggenhuizen and Katrina Holden 0415 704 585 info@annaelenaart.com
The space will be used as an office to provide Counselling support. I will decorate the walls with a soothing paint colour (light green or blue) and furnish it with a desk, shelf, chair, armchairs, couch and rug. In the Counselling room I will also use lamps to soften the room and provide a soothing place to be. SPACE REQUIREMENTS It would be preferable to have natural light and windows to avoid the feel of ‘prison like’ space. Simona Graham 0490 959 346 simonamgraham@gmail.com
