Create Maitland PARTICIPANTS LOOKING FOR SPACES

To make your property available for Create Maitland or discuss requirements please contact City Economy Officer, Caroline Booth at Caroline.Booth@maitland.nsw.gov.au or on 02 4934 9868

Do you have a vacant property needing activating and leasing? Maitland is embarking on an urban renewal pilot project called Create Maitland to activate vacant properties in key commercial sites by offering short term tenures for creatives. Working alongside owners and agents, this program aims to bolster foot traffic to commercial properties without interfering with the leasing process. Activating the site will also improve the look of the property and reduce the chance of vandalism.

For a pilot project to occur formal commitment is needed from property owners to provide access to a suitable and available property. To achieve this, a prospectus of interested creatives and makers looking for a space and details of their offering has been compiled and can be found throughout this document.

Looking for a space to establish an artist’s studio/gallery in Maitland, Helen Hopcroft would like to use the space to create paintings and drawings for an upcoming exhibition at Maitland Regional Art Gallery (Tales about Tails), and open this space to the public- as an art gallery- at set days and times. The business is focused on bringing high quality products to dog families throughout the Hunter and Australia. The space would be used to accommodate both sewing and retail activities featuring sewing and cutting tables, as well as wall displays of retail offerings for sale. This is a unique offering, where coats are designed and created based on the measurements of the customer’s dog. Bean & Bear require a space to conduct face to face consultations and to measure their dog. Customers would be able to come in and see samples of the designs, look at fabric samples and make their selections all while their dog’s measurements are being taken. This opportunity would help to broaden Bean & Bears customer base to include the many dog walkers of Maitland, allowing them to pop in as they walk past to get their dog measured and their orders taken.
