SENIORS PROGRAM GUIDE
SENIORS PROGRAM Maitland City Library welcomes people of all ages to use and enjoy our wide range of free or low-cost services, resources and programs. We offer a large spectrum of learning and leisure resources, including popular and literary fiction, a diverse range of non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, large print, audio books, CDs, DVDs, eBooks, eMagazines, downloadable music, videos and online research. Free access to computers, Wi-Fi, internet and email is available from all library branches. Weekly technology training is provided free and scanning, photocopying and faxing facilities are available at low cost. We encourage lifelong learning and connection with new ideas and experiences through diverse options. For example, the Library’s Look Who’s Talking program includes high profile speakers, as well as sessions on wellbeing, local history and local stories, and book clubs are hosted at each library on an ongoing basis. LOOK WHO’S TALKING
Increase your computer skills at these free, hands-on sessions, where you can get comfortable with technology in a supportive environment.

FRIENDS The Friends of Maitland City Library are a group of volunteers who support and promote Maitland City Library and its services in the community. The Friends coordinate and contribute to activities such as the library’s annual book sale and the Write Now! children’s literary award, as well as reading to residents of retirement villages and hosting an annual lecture series. There are lots of advantages to becoming a Friend, including discounts on the Library’s events, invitations to book launches and exhibitions and a free family history consultation.

HOME LIBRARY
Looking for alternatives to a regular print book? Maitland City Library has a large range of audiobooks, large print books, eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines, eFilms and eMusic for your reading and listening pleasure.
Our Home Library service provides library resources to residents unable to visit the Library. Nominate your favourites from a wide variety of books, large print, CDs, DVDs, magazines and audio book resources to be delivered to your door once a month.

LOCAL AND FAMILY HISTORY Who do you think you are? Trace your ancestors or discover more about Maitland’s unique past by visiting our Local Studies service. We hold a rich collection of local history resources, including specialist collections on Les Darcy and the Maitland floods. Uncover hundreds of historic photographs online through Picture Maitland, or research your family tree with Ancestry.com and FindMyPast. Staff are available to guide and assist you with your search.

GRANDPARENTS Wondering what to do with the grandkids? Maitland City Library has loads of free and low cost activities for children. Support your grandchild in developing a love reading at our Baby Book Club and Storytime sessions, or take part in the great range of activities that happen every school holidays as part of Holiday Fun.
WRITING WORKSHOPS
U3A
Develop your writing skills in our workshop series presented in partnership with the Hunter Writers Centre. From creative writing to creating a family memoir, the writing workshop series is presented by published authors and is a great way to establish or extend your creative repertoire.
Maitland City Library fosters diverse opportunities for lifelong learning, including hosting a range of U3A courses especially for seniors. U3A is a world-wide movement where retired people from all walks of life get together to teach and learn from each other. Join like-minded people or learn about something new through U3A, from armchair travel to advanced computers, poetry, philosophy and more.
