WORLD PHILOSOPHY DAY
EPICURUS - NOT JUST GOOD FOOD AND GOOD WINE We all have a definition of the good life, but how did it come to be associated with the philosopher Epicurus? Epicurus proposed that the best life involves the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain, which only seems feckless until we understand that for him pleasure meant talking with friends and taking water when thirsty and bread when hungry. All things in moderation, he argued, even moderation itself. Join the Hunter Valley Socratic Society as they take an enlightened look at the legacy of Epicurus and his fellow philosophers, Socrates and Seneca. A whimsical and stimulating evening with a theatrical atmosphere. Thursday 17 November 6.00pm - 7.30pm Maitland Repertory Theatre Free 9
