JP2 PRayer to the Holy Spirit Pentecost 2015 Holy Spirit, I ask you for the gift of Wisdom to better know You and Your divine perfections, for the gift of Understanding to clearly discern the spirit of the mysteries of the holy faith, for the gift of Counsel that I may live according to the principles of this faith, for the gift of Knowledge that I may look for counsel in You and that I may always find it in You, for the gift of Fortitude that no fear or earthly preoccupations would ever separate me from You, for the gift of Piety that I may always serve Your Majesty with a filial love, for the gift of the Fear of the Lord that I may dread sin, which offends You, O my God. Saint John Paul II: “When I was 10-12 years old I was an altar server, but not very zealous. My father, noting lack of my discipline, said one day: “You are not a good altar server. You are not praying to the Holy Spirit.” He showed me a prayer. I have never forgotten it. It was very important spiritual lesson for me, more lasting and stronger than any other that I could learn from reading or teachings. He spoke to me with such conviction. Even today I remember His voice. The result of this childhood lesson is my encyclical about the Holy Spirit.” JP2 prayed this prayer daily throughout his life. When John Paul II visited Church of St. Anne in Warsaw (known as youth and student center) duirng his first pilgrimage to Poland in 1979, he said: “Receive this prayer from me, the prayer which my father has thaught me, and stay faithful to it.”
