HOROSCOPE
SCORPIO
ARIES
OCTOBER 24-NOVEMBER 22
APRIL 21-MAY 21
As the month begins, you’re not feeling like your usual extroverted, go-getter self, thanks to the Sun moving through Pisces, your twelfth house of rest and healing. The first three weeks of the month mark a period of endings, closure and release.
Feel the love! May roars in like a lion, Your fifth house of passion and glamour. So much for that “mysterious” reputation; you’re letting it all hang out, wearing your heart brazenly on your sleeve. Whatever you’re excited about, the world is going to know, so take this time to share about your creative ideas and passion projects.
GEMINI
SAGITARIUS
MAY 22-JUNE 21
Buckle up, Gemini— March will be one active and intense month! You’re poised to make some big moves. So ready yourself for a revolution, especially in your social circle and closest relationships. With all the astrological activity happening above, you’ll definitely want to have a solid plan—or at least, some guiding principles—to help you navigate,
CANCER JUNE 22-JULY 25
Some exciting news is coming your way. If you’ve been waiting for word, this month could be the big reveal. Maybe you’ve been ruminating on how to launch a certain project, and now, the seeds of this germinating concept come to fruition. Since the third house governs siblings, a sister-type relationship could figure into the day’s events.
LEO
JULY 25-AUGUST 25
For the first three weeks of the month, you might be concerned with the deeper, higher-stakes aspects of life: soul-bonded mates and living life to the fullest. Small talk doesn’t do it for you. Your perceptions will be especially keen, which could make you crave more time with your S.O. or your inner circle.
Virgo
MARCH 21 - APRIL 19
You cherish your alone time, Virgo, but doubling up has its benefits, too. Being half of a dynamic duo could be pretty sweet now, whether you team up for business or pleasure. Like it or not, your interpersonal affairs department is a buzzing hive all month. But chances are, you’ll also fall into a simpatico rhythm with a kindred spirit or two. If you’ve been moving toward making a relationship official, This could be the month for a resounding “yes!” By being your unfiltered self, you could win fans and amorous admirers alike.
6
NOVEMBER 23-DECEMBER 21
TAURUS MARCH 21 - APRIL 19
Your style is always with good taste, it never clashes. Your sign usually works at a slow steady pace, but this month, you’ll get more done out in the world, networking away and impressing folks with your innovative ideas and gift of gab. Enjoy the social buzz. Make sure you’re stocked up on shiny, updated business cards and an elegant explanation of “ what you do.” Nothing will be too hard for you around the New Moon. Figure out what you want to work on and then jump in and finish it. You have energy and motivation like never before. Starting May 25, question an old idea or fashion preference and prepare to be surprised.
LIBRA
SEPTEMBER 24-OCTOBER 23
Fasten your seatbelt, Libra, because changes abound in March. Your sixth house of health, organization and everyday tasks is heating up. Unglamorous as it may sound, it’s time to corral the odds and ready yourself for a spring awakening. Make a to-do list and knock the items off one by one. Just think how poised your balance-seeking sign will feel once you clear that space. It’s time to surrender a bit and allow others to support you. Or, reach out to someone else you see flailing and toss this person an anchor. The karma bank awaits your deposit!
Cozy up, Sagittarius, and fold your wings inward. You’re feeling decidedly less nomadic than usual, ready to touch down at base camp and make sure your foundation is solid. Spend quality time with relatives or just nurture yourself with homecooked food, reading and the company of your closest circle.
CAPRICORN DECEMBER 22-JANUARY 20
Stop the presses! For the first three weeks of the month, you’re in a very intellectual mood, taking in information, stories, ideas and research, weaving them into a unique concept or worldview. Your colleagues will be impressed with the agility of your brain; you’re invaluable in brainstorming sessions and pitch meetings.
AQUARIUS JANUARY 20-FEBRUARY 19
Back to basics! All matters of stability are on your mind. Are funds a little tight? Sit down and look at your income versus your spending. If you’re out of touch with your budget, this is a great time to whip your fiscal situation back into shape. Prioritize your needs—this isn’t a time to get extravagant, or even distracted.
PISCES
FEBRUARY 20-MARCH 20
Pisces, let yourself dream big, and make those inspired visions personal, too. It’s all about coming into you own, speaking up and using your dynamic voice to send ripples of change into the world. Your normally demure sign can get a lot of mileage out of this assertive energy. Sure, you have a huge, ompassionate heart— but that doesn’t mean you can’t fight for Numero Uno’s needs. And what better time to think about your own goals and ambitions?

COURTNEY NOELLE The Fashion Industry Newest Pro Curve Designer
Courtney Smith, a fashion designer that’s based in New York, who studied History, Sexuality studies, and African Studies at Williams College. In case you haven’t heard Smith’s break out collection “ 2014 Holiday Collection” and her vow to always use plus models to represent her line created a media storm. The collection told a tale of a confident curvy women through unique fabrics in green tone hues with an emphasis on exploring daring styles that compliment the curvy figure . The collection featured Smith’s relationship with knowing how to design sexy garments for the curvy figure. Smith’s collection maintained a balance between sexy and tasteful and when your designing for the curvy women making sure you keep things tasteful is key. The official collection launched in 2014, Rum & Coke is a contemporary women’s ready-to-wear line. We got the chance to speak with the young and extremely talented designer for a short but in depth interview, check it out below.
MAJOUR: Hi Courtney, thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with us.
Could you start off by telling us a little bit about how you got started and your design process?
COURTNEY: No problem,I’m happy to speak with you guys, well I started my line under another indie designer. After
working under that designer I left to pursue my own line full time. As far as my design process, I am a very visual and tactile person. I love fabric shopping. So I usually see the fabric I like and create the garment after. Most of the time I make several versions of my garments before anyone ever sees them. It’s a cliche but true, practice really does makes perfect.
Courtney Smith “ I am apart of the demographic I am designing for,
so I must say that it is less difficult for me to design garments for curvy women due to that. The most difficult part for designers is marrying your aesthetic with functionality, i.e. backless dresses, plunging necklines. “
8
MAJOUR: That’s a really interesting and cool process. Knowing the fashion industry is limited to designers that design for women with curves, do you mind telling us why you choose to also design for curvy women?
COURTNEY: I made the decision to design for curvy women as well, because
curvy women have a great need for fashionable clothing. Currently, there aren’t many options for curvy women and I believe that all women deserve to feel sexy and comfortable in their clothes. MAJOUR: Would you say designing for curvy women is harder or easier? We tend to hear that it’s quite the challenge!
COURTNEY: Well I am apart of the demographic I am designing for, so I
must say that it is less difficult for me to design garments for curvy women due to that. The most difficult part for designers is marrying your aesthetic with functionality, i.e. backless dresses or plunging necklines. However, what makes it easy is that I absolutely love it.
“ SMILE AT YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR AND WEAR WHATEVER KEEPS THAT SMILE ON YOUR FACE “
MAJOUR: That makes a lot of since, loving what you do is important. Could you offer us some information on your last collection? I must say I kept asking myself what inspired the designer to use all of those unique shades of green fabric.
COURTNEY: Lol well my last collection was called “Rum + Coke Holiday”. The inspiration was the Emerald City from the movie “The Wiz” starring Diana Ross, so there were different many shades of green of the movie that I loved. Diana is such a graceful and confident woman. I wanted to capture that feeling in my garments.
MAJOUR: That movie was filled with some amazing fashions. You spoke of being inspired by the movie for your last collection. What inspires you to design?
COURTNEY: That’s a really good question, I tend to find inspiration
everywhere. There is something about the infinite possibilities of the universe that inspires me. Everyday women inspire me to create garments they love & never want to take off. I carry paper and pens with me everywhere I go because I want to be ready when an idea pops into my head. MAJOUR: A designer that designs on the spot, now that’s cool I must say lol. Speaking of cool designers, who are some of your fav?
COURTNEY I’m currently loving designers and a few fashion house right now. Seriously Elie Saab, Stephane Rolland, Marchesa, Gaultier, and Balmain are all amazing.
MAJOUR: I agree 100% with you Courtney those are all amazing fashion houses and designers. I always feel like the big fashion houses not only design great garments, but they tend to offer their fan base cool lifestyle advice. If you could offer curvy women some advice what would it be?
COURTNEY: In the morning, smile at yourself in the mirror and wear whatever keeps that smile on your face.
MAJOUR: Now that my dear is amazing advice! Again thanks so much for taking the time out to chat with us we look forward to seeing your SS 2015 collection really soon. One can only imagine what you have cooking up in that creative brain of yours lol.
COURTNEY: I enjoyed speaking with you guys. The SS collection is currently live right now. Go check it out via my new website www. shopcourtneynoelle.com

Don’t you love vintage clothing? Of course you do and so do we. Well you have to know by now that ModCloth has launched a plus size line and it goes up to a size 30...yay! Imagine our excitement when we received an opportunity to speak with Goretti, an influential member of ModCloth’s product development team. She is credited with helping the brand launch their plus size line!
MODCLOTH.COM MAJOUR:I heard that you were a major force behind the plus size changes that
are taking place at ModCloth. Could you describe your involvement in creating the line? Susan Koger (Co-Founder & CCO) felt strongly about adding a plus size line. She really wants women to be able to get something of quality regardless of size. And we were constantly getting questions from customers asking why don’t we have plus size clothing.
Gorett:I came in, helped spearhead the charge and identify the changes that needed to
be made. Basically I take inspiration from Susan and go with it. I help her concepts come to life and make sure that the concept works for the body type, aesthetics and functionality. We want our customers to feel confident in our clothing.
MAJOUR:What are your feelings on the plus size fashion industry? Goretti: I would say the core issue is a lack of education on how to make plus clothes, because of this lack of education only a few people have decided to focus in on plus size clothing. I remember being in fashion school we never had a conversation about it. We are definitely making strides; in the last five years I have started to see dress forms made to fit plus size women. I would encourage the fashion industry to deep dive into improving education and being more inclusive.
MAJOUR: I have heard that it’s
difficult to create plus size garments due to issues with fit and style. Do you feel that there are unique challenges when producing a plus size clothing line, if so what are they?
Gorett: Making plus size clothing
just takes more persistence and determination. There are definitely some challenges but there are always challenges when making any kind of clothing line. We don’t let the challenges stop us. We think outside the box and make things differently to accommodate different body types. Although a size 6 and size 24 are proportioned differently we work very hard to ensure that the fit and design look very much alike regardless of body proportions and measurements.
MAJOUR:What was some of the inspiration for the current line?
Goretti:There was no specific era I would say just vintage as a whole. We like to listen to what our audience is asking for and provide options for them. We pull out all the stops when it comes to details. We really look into specifics like vintage silhouettes, pockets to really give the clothing a vintage feel.
MAJOUR:What would you like to see for the line in the future?
Gorett:I want us to continue combining
shape and personality when creating our garments.I want us to continue combining shape and personality when creating our garments. I’d love to hear girls saying “hey I am a pear shape or an apple and I’ve got this dress and its fits amazingly.” I just want to make sure that we accommodate for different body types and different personalities. The future definitely looks bright for the e-commerce powerhouse. They are one of the fastest growing fashion and home ecommerce brands. We can’t wait to see what this growth means for their plus size clothing line! Want more ModCloth? Visit them at www. modcloth.com
