MaKayla Jacobs Mrs. Anderson Creative writing October 28, 2013 New Mexico My most memorable experience was when I went to New Mexico with my family. We got there around midnight their time. So we all had pizza and went to bed. But the next day was my favorite day, we went to a Massa where Indian tribes lived, it was 7,000 feet up in the air. The view was absolutely beautiful; there are red rock mountains everywhere. We had a tour guide, she was a girl, and she told us all about what happened back then and how they lived. I never thought I would be so interested in history but this was just amazing. In their church they had three holy logs; they were holy because they never touched the ground ever. How the logs got to the church was three men had to walk fifty miles to the top of a mountain and then bring these huge logs back to the church, without the log touching the ground, and if it touched the ground, they had to go back to the top of the mountain and start over. They lived in dirt homes, but the dirt is hard so it stayed in shape. They cooked from outdoor ovens that were made of sand‌ they dug a hole in the middle of the sand pile and started a fire in there then they put their cookies or bread or whatever they were going to make into the oven. It was just a total different way of living and it was just an amazing experience. I bought pottery from one of the Indian ladies that was still living there. There are so many more stories this lady told us, and some were sad. But I’m not going to explain them all. It was just a very memorable experience.
