One for the Ages
David Bowie once said, “Aging is the extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been.” As we put together our July issue, which is all about the many facets of aging, Bowie’s words really resonated with us: that we continue to evolve as we age, and that we can also become better versions of ourselves — more intelligent, interesting, compassionate, giving and even sexier, too.
The beauty of getting older is that all the wisdom, knowledge and experience we’ve acquired over the years doesn’t need to stop with us; it can be shared with the next generation — a win for all involved. It’s a powerful concept, and one that anyone else attending our recent Celebrating Women of Impact event may have reflected on as well.
Held May 19 following our Celebrating & Empowering Women on the Rise webinar at new Mill Valley wellness and fitness destination Club Evexia, the event brought together influential women from different generations, backgrounds and professions to mingle, network and connect. It was Marin Magazine’s first in-person event of this nature since the pandemic began, and the mood was festive: Guests noshed on light bites from Stacy Scott Catering, sipped wine from Sonoma’s Anaba winery, and were treated to swag bags stocked with goods from Rough Linen and North Bay Candleworks; Club Evexia raffled off a six-month club membership; and all enjoyed the beautiful backdrop of Richardson Bay and music by Dan Durkin from Petty Theft and the Illeagles.
We were joined by some inspiring women in the community that night, including two of the women recognized in our “Leading Ladies” article in the May issue: Executive Director of Performing Stars of Marin Felicia Gaston and Executive Director of the Center for Ethical Leadership Carolyn McGourty Supple. Driving the point home that accomplishments are more meaningful when we recognize those who help us achieve them, McGourty Supple brought two of her children’s caregivers to the event who have made her own work possible — a meaningful message to be sure.
Throughout the evening, mentorship was a common topic of discussion, and women helping other women is also a recurring theme on these pages; on our websites, marinmagazine. How can we help com and better.net, in our e-mail Better Letter your favorite organization? Since newsletters; in our virtual events; and on our January 2020, our social media platforms. Mentorship can only tools and strategy become more powerful when we listen to and have raised: learn from those who have benefitted from $27,231,297 life’s lessons before we have, and when we and made: pass this wisdom on to the next generation — 30,744,019 a practice we hope you’ll take to heart as well.
