The North Shore of Massachusetts is steeped in oceanic history. Every beach is so different and the tides always surprise you depending on the season, the time of day and the color of the sky: the ebb and flow of the Annisquam river, Wingaersheek with its rocks and endless sand, Crane with its dunes and crystal clear water. A marigram is a graphic record of tidal levels over time, resulting in a chevron-like pattern. Inspired by tides and waves, this shawl represents the rise and fall of the sea in fiber. It’s perfect for your favorite secret beach spot. The pattern is a chevron with alternating rows of lace. The stitches should have a nice balance between definition and drape. I used a larger hook (I/5.5 mm) but experiment to see what hook works best for you. I loved using shades of the same color to achieve a gradient look or a 3-color palette for chevron clarity. This is the kind of project where you can stick with the colors you know or go wild and experiment with combinations. Finish off the shawl with huge pom-poms or tassels on the bottom edges of the points for a whimsical, modern look; or leave it plain for a more classic look. www.Craftwork.rocks #knitnorthyarncrawl #craftworksomerville #Marigramshawl

Yarn Weight: Sport, Dk or light worsted Suggested Yarn Amount: 900 yards Solid Color: 4 - 100 gram/4 oz skeins Multi: 4 - 100 gram/4 oz skeins Color A 2 skeins Color B 1 skein Color C 1 skein Dimensions (approximate): 20” x 64” Hook: I/5.5 mm hook or hook for best drape while maintaining stitch definition Gauge: Approximately 4” between two double crochet lace cluster points
Stitches Chain: ch Chain space: ch sp Turning chain: tch Double Crochet: dc Double Crochet Cluster: dc2tog Begin your first dc by pulling through the first two loops and leaving the dc unfinished skip 3 stitches, work dc into next stitch and finish both dc with a yarn over and pull through all 3 loops. IMPORTANT INFO Join a new skein of yarn or color with a slipstitch at the top of the last stitch from the previous row, continuing as the pattern directs. Weave your ends in as you go and/or crochet over the previous row’s tail. If your stitch count does not work, consult the chart, as the symmetry of the lace and chevron is important. That said, crochet is very forgiving and you can always fudge a stitch in if you like.
